Haha, good arguement. But for the sake of potential and flexibility? Subchat requires VIP access at the minimum. Starlight is unique though, because it has no *tinfo (or *info) and a MacID of 1 or something. To prevent having to update the bot plugin constantly over time, it should be definable through ShipRestrict.ini so that that file could be modified over time as Subchat/Starlight changes. Basically a whitelist; regardless of status (ie. being sysop or just a regular player) and score these kind of people will be exempt. Somehow a whitelist should be developed in this case. Do Starlight users appear as ships if they were taken out of spectator mode? O_o
-
It just crashes when I try and launch it. Crashes on libglib-2.0-0.dll (ModName).
-
I don't know why the zone was acting funny like that, but bumping the zone up to the next zone slot and carefully merging the server.ini/cfg seemed to do the trick. :X
-
I think instead of setting you as a Warbird if you had no previous ship, it should set you as Spectator mode. It would only make more logical sense, as there is an arena setting where it would have players in spectator mode by default. You see, if the Warbird had restrictions and the player wasn't allowed to use it, then what ship would they be placed as? Spectator mode is always available and free for everyone to be a part of.. Oh, that just gave me an idea. That would be interesting if you could also set these options for Spectator mode. >:] For example, Sysops being the only ones allowed in Spectator mode, or being required to have a minimum of x points or kills to be allowed into Spectator mode. That could really motivate some people to play. EDIT :: This plugin could easily be broken like this in its own mess. :\ It would be realli nice if spectator mode could be customized too, but then if you do that, you have to set some limits -- cause what if nobody met the standards or qualifications for anything? What if you had to be a sysop to do anything? (Hahaha.) Perhaps as a total failure option the bot could put the player on frequency 10000 or -1 (possible?) and let one of the bot operators know that their is a conflict in the ShipRestrict.ini.
-
Hehe thanks Samapico! This is what I'm using for my shiprestrict.ini (just for no reason ): [Messages] SysopOnly=Only zone SysOps are allowed to use the "SysOp Ship," or Shark (%ship%). TopScoreOnly=You cannot use the Nightwasp (%ship%) because you are currently not the arena's highest scorer (points). MinKills=You need at least %min% kills to use this ship MinPoints=You need at least %min% points to use this ship [Ship1] [Ship2] [Ship3] [Ship4] [Ship5] [Ship6] [Ship7] TopScoreOnly=1 [Ship8] SysopOnly=1 Going to try to debug the plugin though.

Well having the same NamePassword across all BlueT zones isn't changing anything. As you can see, you'll only find Jackpot SVS and BlueT Hosting in the directory server listing for sscentral.sscuservers.net; same results as before.
-
I thought that had to be unique for each zone... Ok!
-
I can guarantee you that's real. MikeTheNose, you should do some research on breakdancing instead. I have training videos on doing this. I've seen some pretty freaky performances before.

Reinstalled Ubuntu from scratch because Ubuntu broke itself (how ironic ). Upgraded to 8.04 from the clean 7.10 install and installed Wine. Doc flabby's method works.

For some reason I can't get BlueT Mobile Suit: Gemini to appear in the directory or zone listing of sscentral.sscuservers.net. It shows up perfectly fine in the following directory servers: dir.cz.sshq.net, ssdir.playsubspace.com, warpath.hlrse.net. It fails to show up in the following directory server: sscentral.sscuservers.net. For the last 45 minutes BlueT Mobile Suit: Gemini has had the following settings in its server.ini: [Directory] IP=sscentral.sscuservers.net Still no sign of the zone in sscentral.sscuservers.net's zone listing.

Can you give a few examples of a flame then? O_o Everyone else seems to recognize that as a flame. If it isn't a flame to you, then what is?
-
Nope. And if you think that it would kill many zones and the biller I think this idea that it would kill such things is one of the contributing factors to declining populations. You are refusing the business of others. I don't care what happened in the past.

Wine v0.9.59. Ubuntu 7.10 (I'm having some difficulties upgrading to 8.04, but progressing on it). Running the installer as normal user (qwerty@Qwerty:~$).
-
Setting the folder permissions to maximized freedom of read, write, create, and delete isn't helping.
-
I get an external exception 6BA on every file that it tries to install (the Continuum installer on Step 2).

Yeah. BlueT is using your Linux port of v1.11j at the moment. v1.12 will have to run through Wine on BlueT unless I get a port out on the block. EDIT :: I'll likely end up playing around with your code and comparing it to v1.12's code. Then if it looks safe enough, would mix the v1.12 with your port and get an equivalent available. I did ask RJ how hard it would be to make a genuine Linux port. He said it would not be hard but would take some time; he isn't really interested at the moment in finding the equivalent code functions and such (in comparison of the Win32 API to Linux). Maybe sometime later though.
-
I would think so since it compiles with no errors or warnings and parts of its code were converted over to more modern functions and such, versus 1.11j running with several compile warnings and stuff. To my understanding, having no errors and warnings means the program will be more reliable, secure, and/or stable (does not mean that there will not be bugs though). I won't switch BlueT over to this version until I have personally tested it thoroughly and/or I receive good reports about it and minimal or no problems (bugs).

Name: SubSpace Biller 2 Download: http://www.hlrse.net/Qwerty/.ssb2-112/SSBilling2-v1.12.rar Filesize: 288 KB Author: Catid Version: 1.12 Version Credits: RJ (rjscodingrealm.com), L.C. (bluetoast.org) Release Changelog: 1.12 (Credits to RJ of rjscodingrealm.com and L.C. of bluetoast.org) *All compiler warnings and errors fixed *Converted to more modern code *Fixed a bunch of the renamed commands that failed to work correctly *Slightly revised subbill.ini *Increased byte limit to 10 bytes from 9 bytes on ?recyclezone and ?closezone to prevent the biller from crashing due to a memory violation or buffer overflow 1.11k *Renamed 'c-' in any command to 'chat' *Renamed 'welcome' in any command to 'greet' *Renamed ?login to ?blogin *Renamed ?man to ?bhelp *Renamed the whole set of messaging commands to something easier to remember Summary of Changes: Basically a bunch of bugs and problems were fixed with the biller and it will now (or should) compile with 0 errors and 0 warnings. Many parts of its code were converted to more modern functions, etcetera. RJ did most of the work in my opinion, while I did what I could with whatever knowledge and experience I have with looking at programming code. This compile has not been thoroughly tested for additional bugs, so please report them so that they may be fixed. SSBilling2_v1.12.rar

If I could I would. I just don't have the knowledge and power to be able to do it. Besides that, there are several other points in this thread that reveal why nobody acts. EDIT :: If I knew how to program for example, I would dedicate myself to programming Subspace applications regardless of whether people would think I'd be wasting my time for a lost cause or not.

Well Trench Wars still works. It doesn't give that popup. But the other SSC zones do. Not sure if there are any other zones besides Trench Wars that has special access or something.

No. You don't change a thing on your side. The IP address that http://www.whatismyip.com/ gives you is the IP that -everyone- on the internet will see. When I go to download a fresh batch of zones from a directory server, that is the IP I will be seeing. That is the IP you should be advertising to people, not your local, private IP address (192.168.x.x). That's because under [Directory] in your server.ini you do not have the directory server added under "IP." Here's an example excerpt from one of the zones I host: (For some reason IPB cuts off at "playsubspace" and wraps it to a second line.) If understanding you correctly, you are referring to the zone and biller information in server.ini. If so, then yes. 127.0.0.1 would be most proper because it's the local IP address of your machine. The 192.168.x.x IP might also work, but that's less proper to use (where as 127.0.0.1 will always work). You only use 127.0.0.1 if you are trying to connect to a biller or zone that is hosted on the same computer you are trying to connect to from. Correct. To other people it will be the IP address that http://www.whatismyip.com/ gives you instead of 127.0.0.1 (which you should know of course ). They don't. They access your zone through the IP address that http://www.whatismyip.com/ throws at you. If they got a zone listing from a directory server and selected your zone to see the information (such as IP, Port, Zone Name and Description) they would be seeing the IP address that you would get from http://www.whatismyip.com/. 127.0.0.1 (Your machine, you) 192.168.x.x (Your local area network IP address that only you and people on the same network/router/hub/switch see) 76.59.267.41 (generic example; this is the IP address that everyone else on the internet will see -- this is you of course, or your router; also known as your Internet IP) If you are under a router, that will be your IP but also the router's IP. Everyone that is connected to that router will have that same IP address because what a router does is take all those machines and basically combine them into "one machine" or a single IP address. Normally if you used a switch or a hub that didn't assign IPs to the computers connected to it, only one of the machines on that switch or hub (or none at all) would be able to use the internet. When you order a basic, standard subscription of internet from your ISP, you are given one private IP address. Using a router allows you to have multiple computers to be on that IP address (remember that multiple computers on the internet in reality cannot have the same IP address). This explains why a bunch of computers connected to a hub or switch would be unable to use the internet (with the possible exception of one of those computers) even though the switch would be hooked up to the DSL/Cable modem. Every computer or machine will have at least one IP address: 127.0.0.1. If not, two: 127.0.0.1 and either a 192.168.x.x or some low-ranged IP address in the 10.x.x.x range or some IP between 0.x.x.x and 20.x.x.x (I don't know the actual range, but that's about a safe range to identify). It not, three: 127.0.0.1, 192.168.x.x or a low-ranged IP address between 0 and 20[.x.x.x], and an internet or public IP address that everyone on the internet will see (http://www.whatismyip.com/). The first two IPs are local, private IP addresses. Nobody on the internet will be able to ping them or see them. The second IP address is only visible to people on the same local area network, or connected to the same router, same hub, same switch. The third IP is what everyone does see and can ping.

I think it would be a good idea to have both OGL and DX support simply because it would be able to reach out to a wider range of players (just this simple point being the reason). Although it doesn't necessarily have to be a part of the first few versions, but should be as a final, public release (the kind of quality to be able to meet the shelves of stores and retailers).

Oh come on now. This should be a private discussion between the both of you, not a public-personal notice. That's why there is a nice, handy dandy feature referred to as Private Messaging. L Y N X, instead of focusing or mentioning the bad and worse in others, try and seek only the good in others. I must agree with Aceflyer however, because of the way you brought your opinion out. There is a right and wrong way to things, and I think that wasn't the right way to bring it out because it certainly makes you look like you're just slapping him across the face (even though you were most likely implying a skeptical, no-harm or nothing-personal feeling). Might want to consider reading the content found in this page (or the things under this page): http://www.hlrse.net/blog/?page_id=12. Now to be honest, I sometimes find myself in a position where I have accidentally or mistakenly wrote one thing that ended up meaning something completely different to most or some people, and essentially offending them in that way even though my implication was never to offend anyone. It is never my implication to offend, hurt or harm, put down or insult anyone; that I state clearly, at least. Another scenario I once encountered involved the lack of using smilies. Even though there isn't really any emotion coming between 'us' through the internet, emoticons do help and give the reader(s) a sense of taste from where one's writing is coming from; that also includes how they might be feeling, or whether that user is hinting any sense of sarcasm or a deep negativity. I often use "rolleyes" ( ) to imply a previous statement as something that wasn't entirely true, serious, or if I'm purposely being hypocritical (even though I don't actually mean it -- so partly not being serious about it). Nobody is perfect. Everyone has their faults, their wrongs, their exploitatious vulnerabilities and weak points, their evils and 'bads.' For this reason, when you criticize someone of anything under these categories or relates to these, it is important that you bring it out in the right way if at all so that it doesn't offend or least offends anybody; it's more of a personal thing. That's why flaming works effectively on people (and for some, their blood pressure). You know, you could potentially kill someone by just flaming them (no matter how silly this may seem). They say (in the hospital environment) that smiling and laughter is often the best cure for many and most things, and that it does in fact decrease the time it takes for someone to recover and heal. Just think about it. And if anybody is wondering, it isn't my intention to compare myself to others and make myself seem or be "superior" to other people. I have this awkward feeling right now that some people would start thinking like I'm some big important councilor of the community or something...and I certainly don't want to accept that. :X
