  1. To the Google AdWords account under the Continuum/Subspace advertising campaign as an advertising group of its own (like all other advertisements). At the moment the campaign is paused for a before-and-after experimentation, plus the advertising balance is of insufficient funds ($0.26) anyway. We would need some donations to start it back up. X_x But the image advertisements work a billion times better than the text advertisements. Will be curious to see how well yours performs when we come to starting the campaign back up again (hopefully).
  2. Perhaps the new SSDL could have a sort of module which connects to SSForum to work with this download plugin. Integration, but not core dependence on this (just in case SSForum goes down or whatever).
  3. As my own two cents of contribution, I would recommend PostgreSQL even though I don't really have any experience with it. From what I have heard, it is a lot faster and better than MySQL in every way. Some clients at BlueToast requested PostgreSQL, so we installed that and phpPgAdmin ... and one of our clients who is very experienced in several web and software programming languages exclaimed about how quickly phpPgAdmin won him over; initially this client was "just curious" about PostgreSQL. Anyone here have any experience with Postgre that they could testify about? EDIT: Is it possible to have a script/PHP/whatever automatically mirror uploaded files to Filefront?
  4. Hehe, that's where we get creative.
  5. *snickers* I have a hunch Mike's got something big up his sleeve that he isn't uncovering. (Might be wrong though.)
  6. Intro Testtube asked me to announce this and do some research and looking around. SSDL needs an overhaul and upgrade. 1. What is your feedback and critiques on the current SSDL website? What needs to be improved or removed? Any feature suggestions? 2. Should the new and improved SSDL should be based off of an existing CMS software or rewritten from scratch? If existing CMS software is the way to do, what CMS do you recommend? If from scratch, do you have any technical recommendations, ideas and thoughts? 3. If you are interested in assisting in the development (PHP and any other necessary languages), please say so. Do you have any inputs, thoughts, suggestions, ideas? 4. Also, I think it might also be wonderful if a template could also be made. Perhaps it could reflect a resemblance to subspaceonline.com? What do you think? Summary In summary we are seeking for what, where, and how's for an overhaul and upgrade of the current SSDL. Any help and feedback is appreciated. A SSDL upgrade would be sick.
  7. Mike, where did you pull that source code material from?
  8. The NamePassword function confuses me when Mike said it is supposed to be for whole networks there. I might be wrong, but to my understanding, you are supposed to have a unique NamePassword for each zone to prevent hijacking of zone names in the directory server (or this is how Sharvil's directory server functions). And this makes sense to me as if it functioned similarly to SSL, locking domain names, and DNS TTLs. If the zone were to go offline for maintenance or connectivity problems, a directory server might keep its name in the listing for 24 hours or however many specified by the directory operator until the zone of known host makes at least one signal. And while the zone would be offline, the only way to hijack its name in the list would be to use the same NamePassword. Only way to find out might be to try and experiment (or ask doc_flabby and Sharvil about how theirs handle NamePassword). If it is supposed to prevent other hosts or people from using your network tag, then how do directory servers "properly" detect network titles in the technical sense? What about the zones without a network title, or hypothetically ones with a single-character network initial? Just some thoughts.
  9. Publishing advertising material with mistakes is never acceptable. Point taken. Deleted erroneous advertisement.
  10. http://www.10minutemail.com/ gg. I like your ideas and points. ;\ EDIT: Honestly not trying to be a jerk or sarcastic. Just taking on Grav's suggestion for long posts.
  11. Yes to all your questions. EDIT: Also, I am fairly sure that HTTP content servers are also possible. Someone correct me on this if I am wrong.
  12. Yup. There's no harm. After a while I pause the advertisements that are least affective to free up a few cents for the better performing advertisements. Also allows [psychological] analysis in seeing the performance differences between similar advertisements.
  13. I have added both images. Thanks CreatiX!

    Use Notepad++.
  15. sscentral.com is running Sharvil's Directory Server v1.0 (Linux).
  16. CreatiX, that is amazing. Especially the part about it being done in 30 minutes.
  17. Copy and paste friendly: sscentral.com sscentral.sscuservers.net ssdir.playsubspace.com ds1.krslynx.com ds1.hlrse.net EDIT: Why was ds1.hlrse.net crossed out? That is still a working directory server. (Maybe I am being a bit too OCD.)
  18. Oops! It was not working for me because I accidentally had an " after undefined.
  19. The bookmark trick isn't working for me.
  20. SSCV. Case closed.
  21. Should be:*s*Directory:IP:sscentral.com,sscentral.sscuservers.net,ssdir.playsubspace.com,ds1.krslynx.com,nanavati.net,ds1.hlrse.net,hlrse.net EDIT: IPB is being really weird and randomly adding a space ^^ Well I apologize, you are right. Amidst my own excitements I have unintentionally allowed myself to become a bit hasty. Ultimately, this game has no stable directory server (or at least has not had one for quite a while).
  22. Second. =) EDIT: I like the new guidelines.
  23. Just in case someone didn't catch me say previously -- but my analysis about how the advertisements do not work is invalid. I had initially stated that only like 18 to 24 download clicks are from the advertising campaign, but this is incorrect because we were receiving several hundreds of clicks from the advertising every day. So the statistic page that showed only "18-24 unique visitors" from the campaign is incorrect that it is not tracking accurately -- or so we shall see in the coming week with the advertisements off. ;o
  24. Gotta pause the campaign due to low funds. Oh well, we have about a weeks worth of data using image advertisements anyway.
  25. Both. Manual in the sense that the zones in the list may or may not have sscentral.com in their [Directory]IP=, and mirroring in that it will check a list of directory servers for zone lists, filter out duplicates, and add it to its own list. EDIT: I would say that sscentral.com and ds1.krslynx.com could be considered as stable (and ssdir once doc resolves his server issues), and ds1.hlrse.net as a secondary/backup. EDIT2: At the moment, none of the three currently-online directory servers have a large list. By "default", all zones publish themselves to Priit's address (forgot what it was), and this directory server is offline. Then, I think the way ssdir worked was that it would cache its listing for x amount of time or indefinitely (as coming across offline zones in ssdir's list was not uncommon) - resulting in a larger list. Unfortunately, ssdir is also offline. I think the council should make a mandate either encouraging or requiring each SSC host to also run a directory server (does not matter which software they use) for the sake of redundancy. :X I plan on going around to each and every zone sometime to make sure their sysops/owner updates their [Directory]IP= with the latest + Priit's.
