it's an important distinction, it's hard to come to a consensus as the opd if people insist that their views are the only right ones because this ususally includes disdain for any opinions that disagree. The opd needs to present conflicting opinions under an equal light if it is to retain any credibility as a valid source of discussion on public settings. This is also a reason why posts should not be deleted unless they present offensive material. Even maka's "bring back old settings" threads/posts have relevance to the discussion.

not fact. opinion. I nevertheless agree, but that doesn't make it an absolute truth.

Some ideas I'd like to put forwards concerning general settings for pub: 1. Shield and full charge greens to be removed (I dislike the idea of random elements influencing gameplay) 2. Antiwarp greens and buy option to be removed (these i feel unbalance the game to disfavour the portal ships; spider especially) 3. All disposable specials (thor, burst, rep etc.) to have the same green weight, ditto for non-disposable specials (prox, shrap, multi); but at a higher weight for non-disposables. (it took my 83 greens yesterday to get full shrap on a lanc, and greening ports and reps can be a mission when all you pick up are decoys, multi and bursts) 4. only sharks to be able to green bricks. also a discussion point: should shrapnel greens stay as they are? ie. 6 shrap per green, or should a shrapnel green max out shrapnel (31 per green) in one go? comments?

Because mav was so nice as to restore my mod access to the forum, I'm gonna post a little revealer as to what I've been working on. Comments welcome: Kanatis_History.rtf

I'll volunteer to lead the forum. I like to think of myself as fair and open minded concerning the pub settings, with plenty of experience in tweaking them. As for being a "man of the people", over the last year or so I played barely at all, but anyone from before that time should recognise me. I've managed to last 4 years in this zone without making any enemies (save MANUSCANNOTWIN, whoever that is- but i think that's just a joke). I'd probably not go so far as to read all of delics poetry to get the job, but I've been trying in my own way to help the zone along for a while now, just ask zeke or vile.

heh, I was wondering what was up with that, I'd been not listed as a mod for this sub-forum for some time, but it seems i still had my powers. I guess whoever decided i didn't need to be mod anymore decided to fix that.

No conspiracy is worth its salt without mentioning the knights templar at least once.

And Yea! Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil. *at this, Manus enters the room and proceeds to sing a song about flowers and cute bunnies.*

It has come to my attention that people from different countries often have differing views on what is and is not left or right wing. For example in my country (New Zealand), I would be considered by most of my countrymen to be a right wing supporter, however I have noticed (not on this board per se, but on other boards certainly) that my views are often considered left wing. The question is: how wide is the divergence between the concept of left and right wing politics amongst the members of this board, and what do you feel is the cause of this?

Gee finally. Seriously not even China reserves the right to execute its children. That is very dangerous thinking there. If criminals are not considered human, then it can easily become acceptable to mistreat them in such ways that would otherwise be abhorrent. Final solution anyone? Isn't cruel and unusual punishment outlawed in one of your country's founding principles?

You think Aus has a problem with biosecurity? think of us poor Kiwis, our landm!@#$%^&* has been isolated for million years. We have very few native species that aren't endangered in some way unfortunately

This is so long ago it's almost embarrasing that I remember it.

I don't play leagues because I usually don't wake up that early in the morning. That and I suck in jav compared to the rest of league players. Gimme a lanc league held at 5pm NZST and I'm there.

I have always felt that cires of "lame" (that is, that particular saying rather than some others I could mention), are just people who, unable to adapt to a persons tactics, merely decry them as "against the spirit of the game" rather than change their fighting style/strategy. This way their inability to cope with the different abilities of different players is somewhat masked (at least to themselves).

It's okay, we understand. Stupid does not discriminate.

Appeasement, it seems this word is coming back into fashion lately. It seems to apply to any person who tries to use diplomacy over more overt action. Because, as we all know, action solves every problem. (!@#$%^&* where did i put those sarcasm html tags?)

Capital Ships are meant to be big. The cap ships of the other factions are even bigger. Also, the gravity gnerators are not primary sub-light propulsion, but are used for manouvering (sp?). Main drives are m!@#$%^&*-reaction based, hence the 12g max accel. Because this is in space there is no real top speed, so a long enough fuel burn can make even the slowest freighters move at a decent speed. (btw) I've finished the resources, but I can't post them until I get the chance to transfer them over to this comp.

This is good. I'll post my intended ship just to give an idea: I.M.G. Kanatis Fury (Leyte Gulf Class Light Carrier - Kanatis Alliance) The Kanatis Fury is a (slightly) modified carrier operating as the flagship of the Deathwing squadron, the elite combat forces section of the Kanatis led Independant Mercenaries Guild. Emphasisiing ground assault tactics, nonetheless the "Fury" is capable of holding its own against other capital ships, a distinction which is uncommon in most carrier class vessels (much to the surprise of most destroyer captains that have faced her). The Anti-Grav generators have been specifically strengthened to allow the Fury to enter a planets atmosphere. This power comes at a price however, and the only vessel more expensive to hire is the sole IMG Marathon Class Cruiser, the "Durandal". Rredundancies of almost all major systems and Xintium Armour give the vessel a good deal of survivablility, compensating for its lack of speed and vulnerability to fighters. It has been known for even squadrons of renegades and pirates to flee without firing a shot after identifying the "Fury" as it jumps into a system. Crew: 31 Length: 93 Metres Width: (avg) 49 Metres Height: 34 Metres Armament: 1x Heavy Neutrino Fusion Turret, 1x Compression Blaster Turret, 2x Light Torpedo Launchers Fighter Complement: 8 Sedan Class Interceptors (external mount), 2 Kursk Class Gunships, 2 Armed Dropships Shield Strength: 470 Armour: 75cm Xintium/Bronev Composite Armour Engines: - Max Acceleration: 12 Gravities - Anti-Grav Field Acceleration: 0.6 Gravities - Maximum Jump Range: 2.5 Light Years - Fuel Capacity: 500

I've a lot of work going on at the moment (working at a polytech, our semester starts on the 7th, so I probably won't be done for another 2 weeks. Yes there will be custom modified ships. But your character had better be inordinately rich to be able to create their own design rather than altering existing ch!@#$%^&*is.

wow, lotsa replies all in one go. First to address some concerns: The rpg will be SS (specifically 17th parallel) related, within the bounds of the universe which was partially outlined in the last bar. All the ships from SS will be included in different capacities in the ship list I'm building. So far I have Exis Ship Classes - Freedom(Fighter), Justice(scout Corvette), Liberty(long range Frigate), Truth(support Frigate), Endurance(anti-fighter Destroyer), For!@#$%^&*ude(anti-capital Destroyer), Victory(Dreadnought) Kanatis Ship Classes - Sedan(Interceptor), Kursk(Gunship), Lepanto(heavy Corvette), Tushima(long range Frigate), Leyte Gulf(light Carrier), Arras(Destroyer), Marathon(heavy Cruiser) Ithkul Ship Classes - Tarkan(heavy Fighter), Samurai(Interceptor), Chu ko nu(Bomber), Warbird(Corvette), Spear(anti-capital Frigate), Javelin(long range Destroyer), Arqebus(Battleship) There will of course be Terran and civilian ship classes, but I'm too lazy to post them right now. As for factions, you may create your own minor factions as you like, they do not need to be affiliated with any of the major factions, but your character will probably still be a citizen of one of the main nations yes? Keeping in mind that as a minor faction, it will not be in the same position as the major factions in terms of power, money, military etc. Also, I don't really want to get bogged down with numbers as thats not what freeform rpgs are about. I trust all of you to use your judgement as to what your charatcer is and is not capable of doing. If your charater is a merchant, don't expect them to defeat an Alliance soldier (npc or otherwise) in single combat. And so forth. More to come later.

points of discussion on my upcoming rpg: 1. player etiquette, how do you feel players should interact with each other in a freeform roleplay (such as the innumerable bar threads of 17th history 2. how in-depth should we roleplay? what kind of character would be, so to speak: outside the rules, and should general silliness and physical impossibilites be stopped? 3. should I, as "gm" for lack of a better !@#$%^&*le use npcs to further the story? should other players be able to do the same? 4. how do you envisage this rpg to work if it contains different locations? different threads? making players prefix locations to their posts? 5. how far should characters be able to extrapolate the universe in order to create their characters? In a previous run of this rpg, almost every player created their own factions rather than use any of those I provided. 6. I'm thinking of adding, along with the resources of the universe, a thread requiring participants to post a character, which will return a yea or nea before it can play the game, good idea? more points added later maybe.
