  1. For those of you who don't know, the 17th Parallel bar has been a series of long freeform role playing threads that exist to provide some entertainment and to give 17th more of a "feel" to it. Basically this thread is set in the 17th Parallel space station bar, where pilots go for drinks after killing each other or what have you. Characters have almost no limitations on their actions or existance, for example someone like DW can play as a Sentient wolf addicted to bacon, or as a robot killing machine with a 47% share in the station itself, whatever. The few rules governing your posts are as follows: The bar may not be destroyed in any post You may not post any actions or reactions that other characters take towards you Your character may not have any superpowers (ie. you are not indestructable) Any post that breaks any of these rules is completely ignored for the purposes of the rest of the thread. The setting: The 17th Parallel bar is a large establishment built with the original station hull in 2464 GC, making it the oldest establishment of its kind throughout the station reaches. Bar counter itself is made of real wood imported directly from Earth, but with that exception the rest of the bar is furnished in moulded plasteel replicas of the originals. In the far corner from the bar is a lounge area that has as its centerpiece an old style holographic display showing the local station newscast. The bartender Richard Arbury, is an ex-Alliance Commando who earned the nickname Swift Hand of God after the defence of the Alliance colony on Tau Ceti IV against the Ithkul, where he personally directed 12 seperate tactical Fusion strikes against enemy hardpoints which turned the tide of the long fought battle. Arbury has been the sole owner and bartender of the 17th Parallel Bar since 2732 GC. It is now 2812 GC.
  2. So Be It.
  3. It seems to me that this forum could be renamed "-*BAD WORD*-ing about 17th Parallel staff and retiring from 17th post forum." Now I can handle the retirement posts, thats okay because its way easier than leaving ?messages for everyone you want to say goodbye to. But how can anyones complaining be taken seriously if you don't know the difference between posting on a public forum and emailing porblems to modabuse@17thparallel.com btw KaBouTeR PLoP, that last bit wasn't directed at you personally, I'm just fed up with the waste of server space some people seem intent on perpetuating. And bye, it's sometimes sad to see regulars leave, regardless of whether they're the greatest vets or not.
  4. lol Cencil, not even close. My best was 2300, and that was with the older-stronger lanc, not the flakey new one.
  5. Manus wants to start a new bar, but he refuses to inflict this travesty upon the rest of 17th without ther consent. What say you?
  6. Our elite troops, the New Zealand Special Air Service, are currently serving as peacekeepers in Afghanistan. Because our current flags (both Aus and NZ) have the Union Jack incorporated as a symbol of the authority of the crown. You may note that the republic members of the commonwealth (for example South Africa) do not. It's really only a matter of symbolism, such as changing the number of stars on the American flag to keep them in line with the number of States.
  7. I'm not going to contribute to this "debate" other than by saying I'm glad I live in a civilised country. On a side note I learned today that the US reserves the right to legally execute its children. NOT EVEN CHINA DOES THAT, OMG WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE!
  8. I live in New Zealand, we don't have an army because we're too isolated and resource poor for anyone to bother invading. Instead we send peacekeepers to places like East Timor and Kosovo. Heh, we even sold off our entire air combat wing, all our Airforce has now are transport and naval spotting planes.
  9. And plus you'd never want to eat anything that's had any remote chance of being handled by Dire now would you?
  10. Frog Blast the Vent Core!
  11. AND my crappy connection I played 17th at a LAN party once using some guys adsl and only got a 225 ping.
  12. heh, sry I replied beofre i saw your second post :/
  13. My connection has gone to (anglo-saxon expletive censored) recently so it's all moot for me. I don't know exactly what caused it but now my ping times are avging 1200+ !!!*omfg you laggot* But i will stick by my original reasoning concerning lag, although i know perfectly well that anyone with broadband *you lucky sods* will disagree. The only reason I came to 17th was because the combination of the high tolerance for lag in the lag settings, and the combination of ship settings/playing style was far more conductive to my being able to play with relatively little visible lag effects (on my screen anyway, dunno about you folks) considering my distance from the server. If this were to change drastically I would be sad :( And I would have to have some people whacked.
  14. Sure, if you can find a way for me to actually be able to get broadband, then pay for it for me, I'll be happy to oblige. smart!@#$%^&*.
  15. nintendo is right, hydro is great but there aren't nearly enough fast-flowing rivers to satisfy the American consumers demand for electricity. Of all the options available Nuclear power is the cleanest in the short-term, but of course this needs to be weighted against the possibility of meltdown or other radiation accidents and the extremely long half life of plutonium waste. More to the point, your country would also need to upgrade its electrical distribution network to make sure there are no choke-points which can be easily overloaded.
  16. Actually i did that using a variety of ships, mostly lanc and wb. I reached 225-0 by the end of that reset period. If anyone cares to take me on in lanc they're welcome to get stomped into the ground
  17. The cons!@#$%^&*utional monarchy we have in New Zealand (interestingly enough we don't have a cons!@#$%^&*ution nor does the monarch play any real role in government) works fine imo. While powers of Government are potentially wide-ranging (the concept of parliamentary sovereignty (sp?) allows that the parliament may p!@#$%^&* any law it pleases), it is also relatively free of corruption (the worst that can be said of our politicians is that they are stupid, rather than corrupt or abusive of power in any meaningful way). There is/was considerable debate about changing our form of govt to that of a republic similar to the US, with a President as head of state rather than Her Majesty Elizabeth II. I personally don't see the point, everything works fine as it is.
  18. State you thoughts biatch.
