  2. Right, so switch to one that doesn't practice the same philosophy. You could even make a biller where most decisions were made by direct democracy, if you really wanted to. These major zones are dying though; they can't hold long time players because they've compromised too much for short-term players, and because they're afraid the end is near; they can't hold short-term players because they get creamed, because amusing ships are removed (looks at TW), because populations are too low because the long-term players left.
  3. Well there's Java™ & Pascal & C♯. But maybe those are what you were referring to.
  4. BaK's is in C++. There are worse languages.
  5. Just use a different biller. One of many reasons to not use SSC.
  6. Holy retarded.
  7. Yup. World gets smaller, more distinct cultures die.
  8. Torrent time. Testtube even when you get it all back up, it would save you cashola to move to torrents. It's not really all that much data and legally not a big deal to host or seed, so.
  9. I'd say a combination of getting ASSS and Discretion into Unix repos and abandoning the over-compromised long-standing zones would do it. Without revolution, few things last.
  10. Just need to hook it up to SSC.
  11. They both (TW & EG) have cheap quick killing.
  12. I think you'll find the less often you satisfy yourself, the less often you'll want to. (and the more often, etc.) Try stopping for a week. If you don't have the willpower to do that, you've really got a problem.
  13. Hear hear, destroy it all.
  14. That would've been great, if the Bush administration had been successful in their attempts to get him another term. Then we would've had real change (in the form of revolution or close to it ).
  15. Opening up more waters for drillin... oh wait that won't really prevent another spill will it.
  16. Screw oil.
  17. Exactly what makes it a good place to find newbs willing to play a game — get to work!
  18. What? Flash just uses ActionScript, which is just a proprietary implementation of JavaScript. If you want to make yet another client that relies on proprietary software, though, by all means, use Flash. You could do it in HTML & JavaScript (etc. [and yes, Flash if you wanted]), and if it was decent enough you could get a lot of new players (probably mostly random non-long-term players than anything else, but that's still something).
  19. The instructions on wine.getcontinuum.com* and/or the ASSS wiki are enough for anyone literate to install and use Continuum on any distro. If you really want more players, you should work on getting Discretion* (as "Discretion, an open source SubSpace client") and ASSS* (as "A Small Subspace Server, an open source SubSpace server") into as many distro repositories as possible. These are packages that can actually make it into distro repos, and that people new and old will actually use (and also that any one of us will be able to improve and maintain for as long as we care to). (and for the record, the only distros worth using outside of special purposes are: Debian, Slackware, Gentoo, & Arch )
  20. Another CAPTCHA that's slightly less useless than most others: http://notcaptcha.webjema.com/?p=1
  21. Jaytech - Everything is OK
  22. 1TB disks have been pretty cheap for a while now; the processor will cost more.
  23. Dell mice are still okay last I checked (for ordinary mice, which I personally prefer over million-key ubermice), but they've definitely boned their keyboards.
  24. Yeah, the USA is so boned.
