  2. "Is the bacon, egg and cheese just bacon, egg and cheese?" "Unless you want anything else on it." "Joy; Christmas."
  3. lol @ catholic encyclopedia: http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/07783a.htm It seems to say that abuses with indulgences have occurred as humans priests can be corrupted, but the abuses are not endorsed by the Catholic church. anyways it's not like service (indulgences) alone gets one into heaven according to Catholicism. You need to also have faith in Jesus rising from the dead and all that nonsense. Protestants believe it's just faith in Jesus rising from the dead. This is sort of parallel in that money alone will not make John Paul II (or anyone) a saint, but it can be of help in do!@#$%^&*enting the necessary prerequisites.
  4. the way indulgences were explained to me is that money is sort of like service. If someone helped the poor their whole life like mother teresa one could see why they might go to heaven. However, if someone gives enough money so the church can help the poor to a greater extent than that of one person in their entire lifetime, is that so much different? Of course protestants would consider neither of these things noble tasks since your state of mind alone can get you in to heaven regardless of anything you do here on earth, whether it be helping the poor your entire life or genociding millions. I suppose the thing with John Paul II is that they want to do!@#$%^&*ent two miracles (I think you're right about the requirement to be a saint). If they don't pay attention the miracles might happen but they have no proof so they can't formally call him a saint.

  6. and in the mean time we punish the children for having parents that make bad decisions? It's one thing to risk your own health by going without insurance, but children have the decision made for them by their parents. if a kid gets sick the parents do nothing and the child dies it's child abuse, but if the kid gets sick and they go to a hospital where they can't afford the treatment (because they didn't have the foresight to get health care) and the child dies that's ok?
  7. the money for the bill is going to come from an increase in the cigarette tax, not income taxes. also, I want our government giving health care to illegal immigrants, as well as children with parents who make up to $83,000, as well as all children with parents stupid enough not to have health care for their children. choices for health care are great because they lower costs and increase efficiency, but let's require that everyone have some kind of health care so that those who don't have health care are protected from themselves.

  11. Christians love gay people, they just don't want them expressing their gayness in public (or private) or having the right to see each other in the hospital or other marriage rights. Gay people don't want a Christian wedding, all they want is a state wedding. in catholisism, at least, there's a difference.
  12. continuum contributes nothing to society, is your mom a fan of making continuum illegal too? making something illegal on the sole basis of it not contributing to society is silly. Tj... the kids are supposed to know that all of science (save mathematical science, maybe) is theory. everything learned in typical science classes like gravity theory, cell theory, atomic theory are theories. By the time evolution is taught in HS, who hasn't heard of the the bible's creation account? A much better lesson to teach kids would be not to trust everything adults say 100% of the time.
  13. when you put it like that it doesn't sound too bad either
  14. i agree... and they pitch it as a strong point... it's what sets them apart from every other religion
  15. that's a bit strange... "What are your beliefs?" "None, but I believe in God."
  16. why in the poll is there a distinction between none and atheist?
  17. i dunno, if someone was going to rape my sister i would be ok with shocking him... what about you?
  18. every president we've ever had has been a christian. JFK was a big deal because he was Catholic and I think mitt romney now is causing a rukus on the basis of being mormen. i'd vote for an atheist! (and i did vote for kerry in '04)
  19. the field should go away when you die. this will also get rid of the suicide-rockettng with ad + brick field lame
  20. at every m!@#$%^&* catholics read three passages from the bible "If you love Me, you will keep My commandments." John 14:15 Catholics believe that you must believe in Jesus and all that nonsense in addition to obeying commandments. actions speak louder than words... and if people were really only going to church to be bored and did not believe, they would not go at all. Whereas protestants can simply believe in Jesus, go a murderous rampage, and still go to heaven because of their belief. lame.
  21. why would a firewall stop continuum from working? that doesn't make any sense
  22. protestants also prosecuted catholics. Also, what makes you think protestants are so special? Catholics don't teach that attending service once a week and saying repe!@#$%^&*ive prayers gets you into heaven. But protestants do teach that simple belief is all it takes. I mean, nothing in our world even happens simply because you believe one way or the other. How great of a religion that is, where simply by thinking you can get to heaven.
  23. non-catholic christians, as far as I understand, believe that believing that jesus died on the cross for everyone's sins is a sufficient and necessary of getting into heaven.
  24. I agree. Vegita, what qualifies as having the opportunity to learn about Christianity? Is it meeting a person who tries to convert you? People are trying to convert people to other religions all the time, what argument makes Christianity true and all the other ones false? Is it reading the bible? There are all sorts of religious texts, why should we believe the Bible and not any of the other ones? It seems the only answer left is that the "true" religion (christianity, in this case), must be in the natural world such that when you encounter someone converting you or the bible, you'll be able to distinguish that, yes, this is the truth. However, if evidence of Christianity is not in the natural world, than Christianity is just an arbitrary set of beliefs no different than the other thousands of religions.
  25. If you get to purgatory you're guaranteed to get into heaven (rather than face judgment later), just after a waiting period.... unless you mean a different sort of purgatory.
