  1. http://quotes.sscentral.com/ Still there.
  2. ROTFL, i love those type of aggrigator sites; can't trust anything on the internet anymore... or could you ever?
  3. I was a sysop of a SSC zone, and I've contributed a lot to Subspace through merv plugins, misc. application developments, and whatnot. It's just a fact of life, not everyone can have a position or power.
  4. What stops someone from writing a client that abuses the privilege of reporting a cheating client.. especially when things get heated up during a game?
  5. I don't believe the menu libraries are checksumed to the server (and if so, why, its not like you can cheat by hacking the menu), are they?
  6. The server should broadcast the buy items to a database for reading... then provide some web-based way of pulling the data.
  7. I don't forsee the client sending security warnings over the menu dll, since to my understanding Ekted and Priit agreed upon a interface. I don't think you could cheat with modifying the menu library?
  8. Last I heard ?lostp!@#$%^&*word wasn't working btw; the SSC edome site is no longer alive either.

These forums are in need of something like Mine GO BOOM forums: LVL -> PNG preview capability: http://forums.minegoboom.com/viewtopic.php?p=69142
  10. Go ahead and try again Hamm... it was my router that was goofed up.
  11. Actually come to think of it, if you're a non-admin, you probably can't download any new zone stuff either, right? Since it's in a restricted folder. Man, priit should update it to download files to a vista-friendly location afterall I suppose. :/
  12. Didn't read the full couple of posts above but Continuum does work on Vista. As I play it all the time.
  13. Why you gotta be bashing Star Trek, huh? Ya know transparent aluminum is a great thing!
  14. Does his last post make any sense? He's bashing us, yet he says 2d games is his life and can't live without it? classic.
  15. Yeah I don't think with that at!@#$%^&*ude I'd undo the ban even if I had privileges. Next.
  16. rotfl, as nikegurl said, raretanium has no mod privileges so he could not have banned you. Perhaps, someone with BanG privileges could further explain the reason for the ban.
  17. I think I'd rather see us move to the Infantry/Cosmic Rift engine as it seems to be more flexible then what we've got now.
  18. The thing is Blizzard and etc. companies have been sued for not paying their "moderators". The individuals made a case since they were working in servers on behalf of Blizzard and had administrator privileges it was essentially implied they were doing "work" and therefore was subject for payment. I wouldn't be surprised if sooner or later people are being lame and sue for the heck of it - for real.
  19. This is nothing new - I thought it was common knowledge that he was a big developer for Kazaa (see do!@#$%^&*ents submitted in the RIAA vs Sherman network court cases where he outlines their liability for copyright infringement), Skype and his latest project, Joost. A 2d game is probably a spec on the wall compared to his latest projects. - To answer your questions: I. Do these beta-versions (sniper, infantry) still exist somewhere? If so, where? If not, any screenshots/etc ? > check subspacedownloads.com II. Whats the difference between Infantry and Subspace 1.0 ? I guess there was a 1.0, was there? > Infantry was written by the same folks as the Subspace game. It's rumored the engine is a super-set of Subspace. They applied "what we've learned from developing Subspace" to the Infantry game. III. They say that priit and mr ekted wrote cont without any access to the original 1.35 source - now hows that possible? > The VIE protocol and other things had been reversed engineered. It's not a complex game in the first place? IV. After going retail in 1997, there were only 7 ships so they implemnted the shark later on. When was that? > Shark/Wasp had been around as a sysop-only ship, I believe. Wasn't it in 1.34 where it was finally released as a "new" ship? I don't recall the actual history on this. V. In theory, shouldnt it be pretty easy to add more ships to ss/cont? (VIE obvisually made it possible to add new ships to the game easily - i cant imagine they let 28.8 k users download the complete game again if they knew b4 theyd make those updates/addons) > No, the part of the protocol which defines a ship is set to a maximum of 8. In order to change this we would have to get rid of any VIE clients (bots included), and go pure Continuum protocol + client. Well "getting rid of" is pretty strong, but I think you get the point. VI. And last but not least: When exactly did VIE shutdown their game support and how many versions of Subspace were there between the retail release in 1997 and the VIE shutdown? > 1.34 was a CD, and there is was a 1.35 released.
  20. Shorter the better, and it looks like we'd have more flexibility to have ssforum.net.
  21. I don't think the filename should include the version but the internal PXE data should (ie: hover over blah.exe and see version: #.# in the status bar). Maintaining shortcuts for executables which change name are a pain.
  22. Let's not reinvent the wheel, just use team speak or something? I think MS already had a library written for DirectSpeak in the DirectX SDK so it wouldn't surprise me they integrated it into Xbox and whatnots.
  23. I know this is a slightly old thread but wanted to let you know I was the one who bugged Catid to include the player changed banner event into the core. I had a statistical plugin which recorded everyone's locations, flag data, score, banner, even chat information and stuck it onto a php-driven website. Complimenting the flag and player location I used gd2 to output all the information onto a PNG LVL output. Too bad that plugin never got much steam and it was never released.
  24. I've had mixed feelings about 3rd-party chat applications, they're nice BUT what does it really do to the game. Do we really want to encourage more people to just come to SS for chatting, or playing? I know several people who sit in spec and chat all day long but at least they're in the game and could potentially play. Is it really that vital to have a web-based chat system? I'd like to know people's thoughts on it as well. Oh also, population is probably dipping because of nicer weather and school letting out.
  25. Bajan has been to busy to update SSDL (allow new entries), if this is better quality, I'd recommend prodding to get him to replace the existing copy there.
