  2. One more thing: Attraction, you are way too !@#$%^&*ing scrawny to be talking the !@#$%^&* you do on the internets. Also, I think it's safe to say that the badge on her shirt gives away the fact that her job description probably requires her to not throw up on guys like you who want random pictures.
  3. Actually, there are two types of girls that it would work on. One would be the ones who have suffered a life of abuse and have learned to thrive on it, the other -- depending on HOW it's said -- would be ones with an incredibly good sense of humor. Of course, with the latter, you need to make !@#$%^&* sure you didn't say it like you're holding a gun to her head. I've only ever said that to one chick and I had been dating her for eight months at the time. If I recall correctly, even she didn't find it all that funny. In any event, anyone who took me seriously needs to have their head examined. I'm super cereal.
  4. You're far too passive. The conversation should have gone something like this: You: We're going to dinner Saturday night. Her: Blah blah blah Catholics blah blah blah You: That wasn't a request, !@#$%^&*. Done and done.
  5. Everyone who "can't quit complaining" about him has !@#$%^&* good reason to complain. I'll move on with my eLife once he is removed from it -- preferably by him ending his own real life. Furthermore, I suppose you can pull a technicality and say that these were "flames", but I will have to strongly disagree with you there. They're off-topic, definitely, but they're all based on actual events and therefore can be considered factual.
  6. EXACTLY.
  7. Jesus, that was fast. Do my posts send an alert to admins or something? Christ...
  8. Don't worry, as soon as Chambahs has something of worth (ie: a steady population), I'm sure deathplus will start in with his usual demands... Also, to preempt idiots like attraction: Shut up, stupid.
  9. "VIE scripts"? What??
  10. Well, I was refering to the VM itself, which is rather large. And "ok" to all that other stuff.
  11. Yikes. I strongly disagree there, and suggest you read the log referenced in my signature. However, this is a debate better left entirely for a new thread somewhere in the "spam" or "trash talk" forums (Got that, attraction?). Ok, got that, but here's where I'm stuck: I assume it will work similar to the system seen in IE where active x controls are digitally signed and the user is asked if they want to trust the organization the control belongs to. Ignoring the user interaction for a second, who will be able create these signatures and exactly what information will be present? If anyone can create a signature, what's to stop someone from signing their own module? Even if there is user interaction, what's to stop this same person from using a commonly trusted name (say "SSC") from fooling users into clicking "OK"? Cool. Kinda like a built-in blacklist that is auto-updated when you connect to the directory/game server? Well, runtime speed isn't really my concern. We both know Java will easily handle most every task this game can throw at it. The initial startup delay and memory usage on the other hand may cause issues. You'd almost have to load the VM in the background after the main menu is displayed to keep the entire process transparent (or close) to the user. Plus, you'll have to account for another ~20mb chunk of memory gone. Granted, most people have tons of memory these days, but it still shouldn't just be thrown away hap hazardly. Also, have you seen the topic on MGB's forums regarding the mervbot creator? Maybe it would be better to use a system similar to that for an alternative to the module system you've already implemented.
  12. Ok, I remember the cheating thing, but your example of the warp mod brings up a valid point: Why not allow mods like that? Maybe even directly support it through a kind of system similar to the "programable" AI in games like FFXI. That in itself would add a degree of skill and logic to help save peoples !@#$%^&*es in game. Using the same example, so long as it doesn't byp!@#$%^&* things like anti-warp or simply not having a portal, it shouldn't really be a problem, right? Regarding the module thing: Could you explain the digital signature thing a bit more? Would the signature be part of the module? If so, how possible would it be to spoof such a signature? Also, would there be a mechanism for zones and clients to exchange version information (or even a hash of the module) to check for newer versions and/or check for cheating attempts? Also, with Java I'd assume you'd use JNI for the interface? What kinda performance impact are you looking at with that? I haven't used Java with any non-java application yet so I dunno how exactly it works in regards to loading the VM or using a kind of mini-vm, etc. Another concern with that is the versions of the VM. Java is for the most part backwards compatible, but I've found a couple instances where version differences can and will perform slightly differently.
  13. I know we talked about this before a bit, but I don't really remember what solutions (if any) were discussed. How do you plan on dealing with cheating? In the abstract sense, you could just have the client act solely as a remote interface, but what about modules and such? I imagine some people will design modules for doing some client-side calculations and game manipulations. How can those be secured? Furthermore, how does one save themselves from a rouge module that is designed to do something malicious? Considering how zones are run and supported, all it takes is one power-abusing idiot like death+ to forcefully/secretly add a required module on a server that could !@#$%^&* several players... I'm sure I've got more questions/ideas, but it's midnight and I haven't rubbed one out today. I'll post more later.
  14. How do you plan on dealing with cheating? Exactly how much information is the client trusted with? Edit: I'll start a new topic about this.
  15. Drake, there's a number of issues with recoding it from scratch: 1) It would take !@#$%^&*ing forever -- especially for those of us with girlfriends, jobs, school, etc. 2) You run the risk of having compatiblity issues if you don't do everything exactly how continuum does things (See: encryption). 3) You'd have to convince Priit to upgrade subgame to even allow your custom client, or convince a ton of people to use your client with ASSS (or similar). All of those are serious problems, and the latter two are even roadblocks that would flat out prevent or severely reduce the likelyhood of network-wide adoption. If someone else had the source, we could simply update what needs to be updated without having to reinvent the wheel, so to speak.
  16. I call Bravo Sierra. As soon as he took the picture, he went and put the cart away like a good little boy.
  17. Hey XDOOM! Your mother. Regarding ASWZ: I believe the dev/owner/whatever got busy with real life. I've talked with Hawk maybe once or twice in the last couple years, so I assume he's still pseduo-perma-afk. Dunno about the others though.
  18. Well said. It's good that we can count on you for sage like advise hidden behind a veil of terrible English and bad grammar.
  19. This is cute... the people who actually lack the ability to read and comprehend English are asking if I read the topic. Wonderful. As Freakmonger said: It was originally stated that he would (might?) be putting aside some time over the weekend to work on it. This implies that he has been too busy in the past (and likely will be too busy in the future) to work on it. Obviously if he's only going to work on it for only two days, it should be !@#$%^&*umed he would release the update during the same timeframe. Otherwise, we're not any better off than we were prior to this announcement. @attraction: The !@#$%^&* are you talking about, stupid? I'm (in)validating my !@#$%^&*umption by asking if anyone had details I didn't concerning the status of the update. That's hardly childish and it's certainly not an outburst. @rootbeer: You also need to shut the !@#$%^&* up. I'm fully capable of clicking on the announcement posts, but as you yourself can probably tell, it's just as ambiguous as the original topic.
  20. ...has anyone heard any details on the update? The way it was presented, I !@#$%^&*umed it would be worked on and completed over the weekend. So... uhh.. details? Also, in a completely unrelated topic: Hey, XDOOM: Your mother.
  21. Give it up already, stop trying to keep this discussion going.
  22. Here's some issues I've noticed in the last couple days: - Large non-file packets (9k) are ignored by either the server or the client... don't know which. - Sometimes bong sounds are incorrectly loaded and/or not playable. This is fixed by re-entering the arena until they work. No idea what causes it. - Need an LVZ screen position type for "player id". The protocol has room for it in the CLV2 standard. Just treat the position as a player ID when using the PID type. - There's more, but I've since forgotten or worked around it. And something I would enjoy very much: - LVZs should support more than 256 images, but since this requires yet another LVZ standard, I won't hold my breath.
  23. True enough. Though, I was just throwing out quick examples and since I don't expect him to be able to cite counter examples, I didn't think I would to justify any of them. I'm not claiming anything about any language other than they all have their own advantages and disadvantages; infact, thats the entire point of this thread: to get people to stop that. It bugs the !@#$%^&* out of me. It seems you didn't read this entire thread -- for someone who started off on common ground, you certainly turned that around by the end of your final paragraph. With the exception of veg and yourself, no one else in this thread has done anything other than demonstrated exactly what I've been ranting about the whole time and/or what you've touched on in your second statement. I find it both interesting and frustrating that you didn't catch that.
  24. No argument there; however, as many people in power have stated time and time again, this game doesn't count as "the real world". You'd think in a community where money rarely exchanges hands that the people who are essentially keeping zones (and more importantly, the entire game) alive would get a tad more respect and wouldn't be treated as slave labor/throw away !@#$%^&*istance. Oh well. One can dream though...
  25. ASM. Java, C#, VB, etc. Hrmm... close, but I'll give you this one. Cpp is the defacto standard for being "elite". Yes, it's a good language and yes I enjoy it more than the likes of VB or Pascal but more often than not the people screaming about how great it is are either (1) Overzealous fanboys who obsess over everything they enjoy or (2) newbies who just picked up the language and are braging about knowing the great see plus plus. Most people just use the language they feel is best for a given situation and they don't !@#$%^&*in babble to other developers/people that lanauge x is better than y in unwarrented, passive-aggressive, horse-!@#$%^&* comments.
