  1. Catapulting was similar to traveling via the hypertunnels now, in that you fly to the jump gate. But unlike the hypertunnels, you used !(sector) or ?(sector) to instantly travel to the gate at your destination sector, without having to fly through the hypertunnels.
  2. 6 years ago, it was two main squads: "bumped" and "hunta" (sp?) after about a year, the members of "hunta" just kind of left, and "bumped" reigned supreme for the next 2 years. Then, 4 years ago, most of the old members of "bumped" formed "Lag Coma" putting an end to the old squads. Several months later, "Brickwarp" was created as a rival, and took many members from "Lag Coma". For the next several months, the squads were about even. I quit 2 years ago, and came back a year later, when "Brickwarp" has become dominant, with most members of "Lag Coma" being AWOL or inactive. "Warppipe" was created several months ago, but its leader is AWOL. Long story short, the death knell of the old squads really is just members leaving, and the squads fading out.
  3. I think all that's really necessary is increasing the maximum amount of fields that can be held, but limiting fields to one drop per life (or perhaps one drop per interval of time, say once every 2 minutes) Previously, I have seen fields being used relatively commonly, and I think the reason we haven't been seeing them recently is because they don't compare to spamming reps/bricks in bases. So I think that if we fix the reshipping problem, fields (among other things) will be used more often.
  4. This is another reason I think Hyperspace really needs an anti-shipchange module. Shipchanging is responsible for the rep/brick whoring in bases, invincible turrets, and rocket shredders. I don't think there is anything wrong with the shredder itself, but combined with infinite rockets (and potential new players who have no items to defend themselves with), it's extremely cheap.
  5. I'm not opposed to this idea, but it sounds too complicated for the younger players in the zone, or others who refuse to learn. It also seems like too much work to implement, considering a better solution would just be changing it so that newbies are not completely outclassed, or, for experimentation, having a chaos arena, where everything is free and requires no exp.
  6. It's the server that the zone connects to that manges usernames and passwords (and therefore access to your accounts, money, ships, etc.), among other things.
  7. I really like this topic, actually. It gives the newbies, who don't know what's going on an idea of what to buy. Many players won't even read this, so I don't think the zone would get boring as a result of everyone using the same stuff... and in the event that it does, I take that as just a sign that something(s) is overpowered/underpowered. I'll be busy as !@#$%^&* until possibly next week (where I'll just be regular busy ), but I'll probably retweak the weasel's stats to make it a viable baser. This will just be a temporary solution until Brain's real fix for the weasel comes in, though. Consider this also a caveat for those who prefer to use it for center killing.

Oh crap! He's on to us!
  9. WTH! Cheap! Now I'm totally going to make it so that weasels automatically get *UFO!
  10. that would also be game breaking
  11. Welcome back
  12. I recommend just buying an E6300 Conroe over the Presler. Superior performance and cooling aside (which I understand is not the primary thing you're going for), it'll cost you only $50 more, but consumes only a fraction of the power, earning that money back in several months. That may be something you would want to keep in mind.
  13. The result is hardware, the problem most likely being that the internal PS/2 connection between your keyboard and motherboard can't register the multiple keys. The solution is just to buy any USB keyboard, which you will definitely be able to plug into your laptop (although having another keyboard is !@#$%^&*bersome, especially if you're only using it to play SS).
  14. While they are very nice, they actually perform worse than the X6800's for gaming simply because the single core that is actually utilized is clocked slower. Some other great games to play are: Heroes of Might and Magic Dark Messiah Neverwinter Nights 2 and of course, Episode 1 for HL2; it's short but sweet
  15. lol... wzl bombs only bounce once... im happy using my wzl in center... i got other ships for basing This may be true, but afaik Brain intended the weasel to be more of a basing ship. While I've been trying to gear it more towards basing, settings can only go so far without items to match (without making a complete overhaul, that is, and it's arguable that I already did back in September.) Then again, Brain did say he had some idea(s) for the weasel, so if implemented well, it may not need a new bomb. My stand on the issue is just that the weasel needs anything to make it a baser and not so much a fighter.
  16. Weasel bombs only bounce once and have no shrapnel. Personally, I think the weasel should have a l1 bomb that bounces once or twice, and has a few shrapnel, but is counterbalanced by high energy cost and slow fire rate. As it is, the weasel is not useful for basing, when it was originally supposed to be.
  17. The experience loss idea is interesting, but it would have to be disabled when a player has under a certain amount of experience (e.g. <1000) because currently, it is impossible for a player to necessarily get a positive record regardless of skill, if he only has beginner ships, and having them not be able to make a net gain in experience simply because they joined later or play less hours would not be fair for this type of game. Another countermeasure could be to disable exp. loss if the exp. disparity between both players is too great. Having a different mode of play in a second arena would be very interesting when we have built up a population to support it, but at the moment, it would be counterproductive to fragment the population. I believe this was the original plan anyways with things like the soccer game, so maybe we'll see something similar. I'm not against ridiculously expensive items, but these should be money sinks, and not powerful weapons/equipment/etc. If an item's usefulness is logarithmically proportional to its cost, then it would cause a negligible disparity between the rich and poor, which would be acceptable.

I have went over the settings, which in relation to the flags, are fine, which leads me to believe that the problem is with the flagcore module.
  19. The flags have not been restored. I suspect this has to something to do with the modules and not the settings.
  20. The original settings have been restored.
  21. At some point later, I may have the time to make some graphics for special bombs. In the case of such graphics, I agree with Brain's idea of "just because you can do something doesn't mean you should." I think tacnuke and the EMP bombs deserve their own graphics, but other than that, I don't think "having it look different because it can" is enough of a justification.
  22. rofl Scarf is willing to give up his turtles for you, Nike! that really says a lot
  23. <3 Bak Also, originally, HS had a little something for everyone. There was killing in the center for anyone, or soccer for those who enjoyed playing with a team, and flagging for the hardcore players. And aside from everything everyone else said, it was mostly the innovation and allure of something new. Worm, if you are adding a buying system, I suggest either making the benefit of the upgrades marginal, or have every upgrade with a tradeoff. The main problem with the buying system is that new players, regardless of their actual gameplay skills, will repeatedly get owned, leaving the only way of killing anything as vulching (or if the situation allowed it, hunting down other newbies.) As much of a success as it was, I think Hyperspace could've gotten a much bigger population if it were more newbie-friendly.
  24. hahaha Happy Birthday, scarf and happy Birthday D1, pwn those finals just like noobs back in the day:D

    Weasels

I disagree as well. The weasel is supposed to cost more because it fills a different niche, not because it's supposed to be flat-out better than the cheaper ships. My statement was aimed at whiners who complained that the weasel was underpowered in response to my nerf. Yeah, but it is a powerful fighter and it does dominate the center. From what you're saying, it seems the whiners were complaining about something that is still overpowered. Are we on the same level here? If the weasel indeed still dominates the center after the nerfs, then I'll have to look into it.
