Yeah I was disappointed by the debate last night. Really no change in the status quo for either side. Obviously the 'win' goes to Kerry for his performance but hopefully the next debates will go into more actual substance. The one question I was really interested in for their answers was on the Darfur crisis but as usual politics replaced straight talk. In fact, this Darfur thing needs its own topic.... Summary, debate sucked, neither side made any headway, just appeased their respective camps. Let's hope the next debates get into some better depth. *SIGH*

Entering late, gotta make up for lost time... I went to public school and got a good education. Granted, there does need to be more focus on current social problems on the school level (i.e. discrimination of any kind) but the parents still have to be involved. Anyone who believes that the school impacts kids' social outlook more than their parents is deluded. That -*BAD WORD*- (insert 'N' word here) Bob doesn't know his head from his -*BAD WORD*-. Joey you are a stupid ('N' word)!! Parents gotta be good examples first and then the school has to reinforce the positives. I agree that there is too much regurgitation of useless facts in public schools, but skills for entering the workforce should be emphasized more in vocational schools (hence the name). In my high school we could take classes of job training or skills just not a big variety (welding, auto mechanics, marketing, computer science stuff) but that's probably cuz im a small town guy. Last thing I'm gonna comment on is the Pledge of Allegiance thing. I don't know, I may be wrong but couldn't the kids just NOT say 'under God' when they say the pledge? I don't think the class will notice if 1 or 2 kids don't say it. Foreign exchange students, or course, certainly should not say the Pledge (unless they really wanted to I guess) and should not have any pressure to do so and I find it hard to believe that they would be ostracized for it (anyways, they'd be gone in like a year ). I think that they should at least stand for the Pledge out of respect...I mean everybody stands for everyone's national anthems at the Olympics don't they? (don't really know, I don't watch the Olympics cuz I don't have TV). My feeling is that if you are a citizen of this country and take advantage of the freedoms, you SHOULD have the proper degree of respect for it. If you don't, its not like anyone is putting a gun to their heads now is it? I know there is that argument that if they DON'T stand for it they will be ostracized by classmates, but what else is a kid going to feel when he/she sees someone disrespecting their country? I wouldn't like it and I doubt that many other people regardless of their nationality would either. Anyways, as usual, I'm not here to force my OPINION on anyone and I'm not going to go saying "So-and-so is a F-ing idiot why dont you go and "F" yourself!" Anyone who wants to say that to me go ahead I promise my mental editing will change it to say "Hey man I dont agree but thats alright". The End

**WARNING** The following post is off topic yet extremely real. Need some advice from the people out there who actually understand how the internet works. I recently received a letter about joining some organization where they pay people for doing surveys online. I went to the website, they want a 29.95 registration. That and the fact that they say you can only contact them via email gives me some doubts. The website only lists their email, no phone numbers or address. Is there any way to check on the veracity of this company? Thanks you may resume random spamming.

Here Begineth the Lesson: Dairy prices increase due to: increased cost of feeds (mostly the increase in corn prices ((corn was over $3.00 US/bu, soybeans topped $10.00, basically all the grains saw increases this year due to increased demand by foreign sources due to some bad weather for crops in South America...also droughts in areas of the US has cut back supply so that it is less able to meet demand), the aforementioned dry conditions in much of the Western United States have cut back the supply of forage (which is the primary source of nutrition for all ruminant animals ((i.e. cattle, sheep)) due to the rumen microflora capable of digestion of cellulose). Forage used over the winter months is important for peak lactation. Dairy operators are seeing increased necessity and therefore increased prices to purchase forage (hays and silages) to sustain cows during lactation. Alfalfa hay is especially high (over $125.00/ton locally) but luckily, alfalfa should only make up a limited percentage of total forages used due to the threat of bloat (Reason is: alfalfa is too good to feed to cattle too much, sheep, on the other hand, can thrive on a 100% alfalfa diet (almost, some supplemental minerals are required)). The combination of these factors and climate factors have resulted in a drop in average lactation/cow in the prime dairy states (California, Wisconsin, Minnesota yeah its -*BAD WORD*-ed up that California is the #1 milk producing state but Wisconsin is making good progress at regaining the bragging rights, go cheese heads go!). Decreased supply of milk results in increased prices as the demand has risen with the Atkins craze people have greatly increased their consumption of cheese and butter. These prices have risen all across the board for dairy from last years supermarket price of approximately $1./gallon milk to a price this week of $2.97/gallon (subject to regional variation). Best bet for lowering of milk prices are as follows: Better growing conditions throughout the Midwest for grains as well as forages result in lower prices for livestock feeds. Also, should it be shown that the Atkins Diet is causing a significant increase in colesterol due to the increased consumption of high-fat/low-carb foods, we can expect to see a decline in the consumption of cheese and butter to their pre-Atkins levels, therefore reducing demand, increasing ready supplies, and easing of prices of dairy products. Bad scenario: Mild winters across the Great Plains result in less snowfall and cause dry soil conditions. Spring precipitation doesn't make up for the soil conditions and the prevailing notion that the downriver barge industry on the Missouri River is more important than increased use of irrigation on cropland result in poor crop yields with further exacerbate the high grain and forage prices we are seeing today. Also, should the Atkins craze remain popular, we should not expect to see any dropoff in dairy demand and the possibility of an increase in demand is probable causing further increase in dairy prices, an estimated increase to over $3.50/gallon milk prices thereby sending your milkshake (small, no cream) price to approximately $26.47. Worst-case scenario: kent wears a thong in public, m!@#$%^&* blindness results. Want to know more about dairy operations but are afraid to ask? Just send me $39.95 plus S&H and I'll send you a monthly newsletter detailing the current market trends and production practices for US livestock. hehehe agriculture rulz I'm so bored that I actually put thought into this whole thing. If anybody actually reads all of that and understands, I salute you. Stay tuned for more of these kind of posts in the future!
