  1. Can we get that horrible sound disabled? it's one thing to subject eyes to images, but ears should be free damnit! edit: nvm i blocked it Yeah, Trench could better manage their bots, most probably don't even need to be running, and most can probably be merged. DSB has around 30-50 events. But you dont see them keeping 30-50 bots online in every event. The Event ref will take the bot offline and bring it online before and after events are hosted. So trench has 3 pubs, and a few duel arenas, that only adds up to 10 bots. And maybe you could argue 10 more because its impossible to merge some functions. But 50 bots is pretty ridiculous. Even better is if Trench Wars could someday merge to ASSS and never experience any problems. Then you wouldn't need bots at all.
  2. i don't really like them at all, You might mistake this for trolling or something ridiculous like that, but really isn't anyone allowed to have an opinion anymore? To be critical is a good thing, today people throw praise around way too much. Take the voice for example, every singer that sings on there, is great and beautiful, etc etc, That's great, why are they even having a competition for? Just give them all the medal or first place and go home. But back to the ships, they have too many holes in them. Not really elegant or simple.. the jav is better than the warbird.. Warbird looks like it flew through a cheese grater. The design itself reminds me of some post apocalyptic earth animes, with air battle ships etc. The ships seem more atmosphere oriented than space oriented. But i agree, color them up, and they might improve ten fold, no way to really give an accurate opinion until they are complete right.
  3. Polix, i think though if you poll subspace/continuum players, about cheating programs, most of us know what they are, were to find them, or who to ask to get them. We just don't see a point to cheating. Most people want to play the game, win through real skill, maybe there are some other 'in game' issues, but cheating isn't one of them. Of course i believe there are still lots of cheaters. But i personally only have seen one or two a year. Other cheaters probably do get banned too fast, and it's likely they were experimenting or just your average kid trying a program out, not really knowing anything more tech savvy then that. Of course snrrub worked out most of the exe by now. That's why i was wondering what his personal gain would be. etc if he had the security.so. Most people who are good programmers or good with networking, can probably bypass a netban, or cheat if they wanted to already. At the same time if security.so was released. Someone like myself still wouldn't be able to cheat. Wouldn't have the desire too. And still wouldn't be able to evade a netban. Because all that information would be beyond what i understand. Like i said before, if i was forced to learn it. It's possible i could, in a year. But even with a previous netban, i found ways to talk in the game without resorting to dissecting the client, or playing with packets, so my quest for solving problems ended there.
  4. Well i always used to say if you hate the player demographic.. then you shouldn't be in a position were you have to deal with other people. Maybe in the background as a coder etc. But if you genuinly like every aspect of the community (even the trolls), and you like the game then motivation would never be a problem. The biggest issue is always time with most developers. If time isn't as big a problem as motivation. Then maybe you've been in chaos zone too long. Try some new zones, maybe login as a player and not as Polix. Opt for a new perspective/new experience. Make a squad. Try have some fun. You can still like the game while finding it boring (because you are stuck in some sort of routine) There is 1000 players on subspace. Go meet some people. Of course it get's boring if you talk to the same people on ssforums all day. I've been here 13 years, and there is still new people to meet in game. i never get bored. i like meeting new players/helping them. People are the main interest in continuum, as it is a multiplayer oriented game. Maybe set some goals or challenges for yourself. Ie win some leagues, some competitions. Participate. Not sure how else you could find motivation. But i guess quitting is nice to do to rechaging your batteries if you ever decide to come back. Though aside from our disagreements, issues, i couldn't argue that you've done a lot for subspace.
  5. Hmm alright, it's funny because i already got the idea of editing the client when i was netbanned. Someone basically explains the jists of the banning system on Minegoboom, but with reference to subspace. However, i know it would be too big a task for me, especially if there was encryption to break. (Which generally is impossible, plus Priitk updated continuum to military grade encryption) Though i wouldn't put it past me to learn to modify packets or checksum, if i was netbanned i would likely be forced to learn, unless there was some easier way to get in game. But all that info, largely history was intersting. Still it's strange that no one trusts Snrrub. Reasons aren't exactly straightforward (ie a reason like - he hacked the game and cheated - is a good reason not to trust someone) But many reasons given were more of intuition or personally based. (he's an oddball - not part of the club/group - too much of an unknown) If he did use security.so for personal gain, isn't that technically what everyone else has done? None of you could ever be netbanned if you didn't want to be. Ie the personal gain is that snrrub could circumvent netbans? So what's so bad about that? He's certainly not a subspace criminal right? WHAT exactly would the personal gain be? The only other valid reason was that snrrub might make information public. Though i can hardly blame someone for wanting information to be accessible and free (Known as a White Knight hacker). (ie making everything transparant) It might actually kick people in the butt and get a new client rolling sooner.
  6. Ahh thats good news then, that you can enable peering, and not have the inflated populations now. I'm not a programmer, and therefore slow to catch on without more detail. And it's probably annoying to have to take my hand and walk me through everything but im just curious. Who has source right now? Do you mean source for your server? and work you did on ASSS? For security.so? (who made security.so?) Why would nurmf have access to src and snrrub be denied? (btw what does src stand for?) And whats wrong if snrrub had source? Isn't open source better for development? As many games provide their code freely sometimes..
  7. i wonder if a new client, could display bots/players/spectators/ or would a new client have subgame at all?
  8. tm_master is happy with you numpf and the hosting you provide, but he was happy with snrrub, and really he would be happy with anyone that helps devastation stay online.. he is always happy.. everything is fine while it's working, but i want to see what happens if shit hits the fan.. hopefully it never does. And really why does stag want to go back to inflated pops? That's what i understood from his and your posts.
  9. The latest bleeding-edge asss can inflate pops if you 'return to such a situation'? Also didn't devastation go down because snrrub updated his server? What exactly did he update? Now you will be updating asss, will that not just bring devastation back to the previous problem? Where the zone goes down, because of some incompatibility or error, and no one is available to fix it? ie snrrub didn't care, so why would you change your schedule to bring a zone up within a day or two? Especially considering your time frames, of 1 year to fix inflated pops. How long to bring a zone back online? 6 months? And why even go back to inflated pops? It's fine now. Everything is accurate for once. i understand now why brain has to go to extremes to deal with this retardation.
  10. Whats up with continuum steam group? Did we need a certain member count to get Continuum on steam?
  11. Yeah i guess you are right, as long as people can remake a similar zone, with clear ownership, it's better off that way.
  12. except i never specifically talked about brain, i brought up trench wars as an example, and even then i used the word "likely" the owner is an idle spectator. (implying that i don't really know, but if that is the case, my point is valid) Regardless paying for a server is not that much of a big deal, back to brain, if he wanted to kill HS, and spidernl didn't, it would make more sense to let spidernl pay for HS, especially since spidernl built alot of that zone, and then brain could retire as zone owner.
  13. I don't see any personal statements in my above post Dav, just some facts.. lol it's his perogative if he wants to kill his zone or make it a gay bar or whatever, though no one saw it that way with Hoch, i guess people didn't want 200 players to quit ss back then. HS is no where near that important yet, but if the owner of trench wars wanted to kill Trench wars tomorrow, we could just say it's his zone let him do what he wants. Even though its likely the owner was an IDLE spectator through the years and the success of trench came from countless other peoples hard work. A zone in no way belongs to anyone but the dude who doesn't even care to login and play it. =P
  14. Brain doesn't care about population, he would be the first to kill his zone over his own interests than to accomodate 100 players. If 100 people didn't agree with his zone rule of no swearing, he would ban them all, and go back to being a 30 player zone.
  15. But it's not stealing, if no one had the name? When you created the name Cheese, that means you stole it from someone who could have had the name instead? No. If what you were saying was logical, then if you create a name once, or create a name 20 times, both times would constitute as stealing. Just in the first case you steal one name, and in the second case you steal 20 names. You are illogical and are not addressing any of the points brought up that prove your statement wrong. You are holding firm to a belief and prosecute anyone who doesn't agree with it. Imposing what you feel is correct on others, without actually backing it up. You clearly don't respect anyone else's freedom Cheese. But when your own freedoms are trampled on you would protest? Like i said if having more than one name was seriously bad and evil then the only way to fix it would be to make it so players can only have one name. The problem here is many people would dislike this, because even in game's like wow, people can have up to five characters, with different names, all be it different professions. Are they stealing too? Even if the game was facebook login. You could have two facebook accounts potentially, and you could login with a google account, and a yahoo account, which again would allow you to have around five names. Though your identity would be more linked to each name. I generally dislike smurfing myself. People will have a name they always use, and be nice on that name. And when they feel like trolling, doing something bad, being an ass, they might make a new anonymous name to hide who they are, and potentially get away with being a jerk to someone. The benifit of this is that you can troll when you feel like it, and when you don't feel like it you can retreat to that name where you are a nice person. IE you don't have the mental strength to handle the full responsibility of your actions. Wheras myself if i troll i troll my main nick, and i let everyone know who i am all the time. There is no retreating to recover for me. Anyone is free to retaliate at any time, even when im tired, or don't feel like dealing with another troll etc. That's because i have more integrity than most people. All that aside those are just my personal feelings on smurfs. It doesn't mean i would impose those beliefs on everyone, and say we should strike out all smurfs. Let them smurf.
  16. The stubborn zones and owners don't last, this is already proven, no point debating that.
  17. Well i typically use a different name that i have each day to every week anyway.. it's not like they sit idle for a year.
  18. Well i think PM's or squad chats rarely if ever should be moderated. In that case the player needs to ignore the other player. I would only think if someone was evading ignores it would be an issue. Passplay, im not accusing staff or chaos of doing anything wrong, as i don't have any facts, but i was just giving my opinion on bans. It's good that the ban didn't exceed a week, and generous that it was only 24 hours. Also im confused about a shutup ban. Does that mean he was never banned? and just gagged for 24 hours? if so that's even cooler.. as it was the more appropriate action to take..
  19. So i guess he wasn't netbanned. Well it all depends how long a zone ban was. Usually if it's just a week, that's normal. If it goes into months or years, then again that's an issue and it means the mods took it personally. Of course if choas really wanted to focus on doing the right thing, they could create a bot that recognizes players by ip and alias, and will auto gag that player when they login. Making it impossible to evade the gag by signing off and on. With something like this, bans wouldn't be necessary at all. In fact being gagged in a zone is worse than any ban, especially if the gag lasts more than a day. People would voluntarily not enter the zone because they would want to talk to friends, or other players. But the point is, if they did want to enter the zone and play, they still could. Banning is archaic and wrong in my opinion for anyone but a hacker or a cheater. Also i know something of axe, and axe is flamboiyant, he is somewhat of an actor, a flim flam man. You shouldn't take anything he says seriously. We used to have similar people in DSB, one was named Dirty Jackal, He would pretend he was younger than he actually is, talk like he is an idiot when he wasn't, and make up stories about his brother dying etc, and forum posts, and try convince people it was true.. said he took vitamin pills, and drugs and so on, very very dramatic. He was also European.. etc.
  20. Well i've been banned from dsb for 24 years, and more recently until 2013 because of text that i type. Mind you my text is not harassment (Especially in a public chat/venue, it's not even specifically directed at anyone to be harassment) My text is nothing that can't be ?ignored, and i never change names to evade ignores, because im not desperate for a specific person to read what im typing. As well i've rarely if ever broken zone rules, maybe the Team killing rule in the past? And there are whole Zone owners and Sysops and even NET OPS, who have done far worse actions than me, yet they deem text to be worse than their actions. When text doesn't harm anyone especially when the game comes with an ?ignore function. I've never been racist, or given people a reason to ban me other than the fact that they dislike me or my name.. But there is no rule saying we need to be liked by everyone. Ultimately i've been netbanned twice for the same reasons. That's just how it is, don't expect anything different from ANY zone, or anyone in charge. (Though Hockey zone, and Devastation, seem like more free places as far as people not trying to control you, own you, or impose their belief system on you) For example HyperSpace has a strong belief system in their rules, however at least they are direct and upfront about it. Was Joon Netbanned? or just zone banned? If it was a netban then that's a serious issue. (You remarked Joon could no longer play ss anymore) Also as a side note, america, or first world countries, have less freedom than third world countries. You have it kind of backwards if you think America is more free, than Rewanda. In a third world country if someone does something to you. You solve it yourself, you go there and beat the guy up. That's freedom. What most americans lean more towards is what they mistake for freedom, which is the law, and what is familiar, what is safe. In the end you have more freedom inside your house, than you do in any society. Most people reject freedom, and don't even realize it and then they ironically advocate in the support of freedom. Real freedom requires alot of intelligence and skill to survive in.
  21. Either way a reservation is not stealing.. my point was NOT that it's like making a reservation, but that it's not like stealing. Don't get me wrong i don't like smurfing, or people who remain anonymous or hide behind other names. i may use other names but i make no attempts to hide my identity, and usually tell people who i am. The names are more for collecting.. or for different zones or squads.. or just to change things up. Call it customization or collecting. Many people have collections in real life, cards, games, dvds, songs, we don't call them theives.. (Except for the ones who use torrents lol) i wouldn't want to kick zones off biller, i didn't even know that was possible, just wondering why some of my names expire, usually the low usage names. But now you say usage doesn't really factor into it.
  22. That's not stealing, its like saying the guy who made a reservation at a resutraunt/hockey game stole my seat. Though seats aren't owned by you or the guy in the first place.. but anyway Trust me no one wants my names. Infernal Armor, The Sentinel, Jagged Fel, M26 Pershing, Munster, Cybersix, Outrunner, and so on. Some have said i have multiple personalities though
  23. Well few people will sit in spec and collect ?usage for their names. I have 20 names, and it takes about a month or two to collect the required usage. At least four days for each name. And the game is more than 12 years old, you would expect the majority of people have more than one name by now. Brain with the funny posts.. that was basically my point buried in all the sarcasm of "is it a secret" So i take it i already know the answer Polix? I was just wondering what the actual formula is.. or how much usage keeps a name safe for how long.. and if logging in resets any timer.. Either way a name hoarder will just login to their name every week knowing or not knowing doesn't really prevent name hoarding. The best thing is to revise the biller system. There are probably names not logged into for five or ten years. And no one resets them. Regardless if the name has 20,000 hours, it should be reset after it faces 5 years of neglect. =/ Either that or limit ips to 5 names or something. Could be bypassed. But it's more of a direct solution to name hoarding anyway.. at least the lazy/dumb people won't be able to hoard names. It kind of discriminates though.. But so many names are taken, and still i have 20 names. It just forces people to be more creative.. Since this is a thread about a question i have, then i have another question about spiders.. might as well, as opposed to making a new thread Does anyone know if and why red laser pointers would kill or harm a spider? Is there proof or documentation that it does, perhaps from a credible source like a biologist or Entomologist? i was just curious.. i know that spiders can't see well under red light, because they use the vision attribute called image defocus.. and with green light their vision works better.. im just wondering if the laser pointer light is too powerful and too red, and somehow causes lasting harm.
  24. Does anyone have an answer for this? is it a secret?
  25. Yep, would be cool to see how it looks on your phone.
