@Newcomers, boys, its: what brings you to Subspace/Continuum?
Lynx replied to L.C.'s topic in General Discussion
This is a pretty damn good tactic, actually. I clicked that Evony link once, because the hot girl got me interested. -

Lul, owned. -
Ah my bad, mine have that too. I think that might either be the frame model or size.

This thread has been interesting, but I thought I'd point out that some countries have taxes that you can opt out of. For example, Hong Kong (two-tier healthcare system) allows you to opt out of their public healthcare system if you wish to only use the private system. Have fun going back and forth endlessly between two opinions, guys.

My prescription information was only written on my appointment card, not on the glasses. Perhaps they do things differently in America.

It relays everything that's sent to the biller, which is more than messages and scores (which brings up trust issues), then of course I'd be inclined to agree that the lag never mattered... If Continuum never used UDP for chat. Either way, D+ used it for development, I wouldn't suggest it for permanent zone hosting.

I only use Twitter for following a few people/news, this is a cool feature.

1. If you remove the package encryption (which you've done) the client is useless, it won't connect to any zones (and stay connected) as all of the checksums will be off, and therefore will raise plenty of security warnings pretty much instantly. 2. In order to make any changes to the client (while it's no longer packaged) you'll need to know assembly, and know it well. It took Snrrrub a long time to make any changes to Continuum via the method you're suggesting, and even his efforts were too much of a security risk - and I can only think of perhaps one or two other people who are up to his back-end standard in the Subspace community. Oh, and then you'll need to package it up again, without of course screwing up any of the arbitrary server checks. 3. If you did find any useful code, it would all be in AT&T syntax. Seeing as you don't know C++ or C, I can bet you don't know assembly so I can bet you won't really be sure what you're looking for. Last time I tried to do what you're doing, it took me a *long* time just to find anything comprehendable, as I had to move through the stack and print everything out to be readable. If I've learned anything from attempting to reverse engineer pretty much anything, is that you're in the deep end immediately, unless of course you've got a very good understanding of c/stack/gcc/registers/twos complement etc. Anyway, I don't see the benefits of releasing a load of gibberish code, considering how long it will take to do so. If you do want to (and know what you're doing), then make sure that you don't release anything that can damage the game, otherwise... leave things be. What we've got now is working. This method probably isn't the best for client upgrades. Just my two cents. -
Although the price is very much so right, I'd probably rather buy a decent pair of glasses that will certainly have the right prescription. My eye sight is one of the things I'd rather not get worse with an incorrect prescription, and you also need to make sure that the lenses are matched for your eyes (pupil location etc). I bought two pairs of glasses (one GoiGoi, one Armani) with a full eye test and scratch proof coating on both pairs cost me £168 - or ~$274. I'd say that's a fair price for quality, considering they'll probably last me at least two years (where I'll probably be more blind anyway, due to me never wearing them enough).

Uh what? You broke Cont's encryption in two minutes? Do you work for NSA by any chance? Rain Man?? Anyway, Continuum works by security through obscurity, and so far it's been working well. Thankfully, we only need to ban a very small minority, as cheating isn't too easy. Of course, I'd like to see other measures be put in place (and I believe that BaK has some very good ideas on security with Discretion). Releasing an unencrypted client would only remove the obscurity we have, and I believe would be a bad idea. However if you have the skills that you say you have - perhaps you could help secure the future of the game by contributing to either Discretion or ASSS? Edit: Also, editing the client by assembly hacks is not easy; it's a pain in the ass. Plus, I don't think many of our very few developers actually know assembly well enough to edit the client fully. -
If you don't press x or c for as long, you will not jump as high. Level design is random, however, the boxes are a give away as to what kind of jump comes next. QWOP is the best though.

I got the code. I spent a while playing, nobody else was online really so I didn't actually get a good feel of the online play but here are the things that are bad about the game: The controls don't feel natural, took me at least 35 minutes to really get used to them, perhaps because it doesn't feel like Subspace, but moves like Subspace. It's kinda hard to see the objective of the game instantly; which will put a lot of people off. Perhaps make training something that you *have* to do before you start playing. Maybe make the turret guns primary, and the stationary guns secondary. It just feels awful trying to take people down with just stationary guns when you can't reverse the ship. Other than that, the game is fun and it has potential. I added ckcornflake online, so hopefully we'll have a game soon. Spec ops will be the biggest bitch of them all. If you haven't done any on veteran yet then i will be suprised if you get them all done by the end of the week. I didn't think veteran was that hard on Moderm Warfare 2, definatly not as hard as Modern Warfare 1 anyway. I've worked through specops but my friend who I was doing it with had some exams, so I've slowed down on that now - I'm on Act3 on veteran campaign, though. I don't have my xbox on but I think I've done all of the alpha specops, all but one of bravo, and a few charlies, not unlocked delta I don't think. I done one of them on my own, which was good fun - try 'acceptable losses' solo... took me like 15 minutes but man it was good.

^^ Theres that attitude too.
-
I think it's more so the obnoxiousness, the ignorance, the patriotism etc etc etc
-
I've spent a couple hours on MW2 today, on ActII - The Hornets Nest on Veteran, should complete vet tomorrow and will probs have spec ops done by the end of the week... damn this game is addictive.
-
Yeah, I tried the trial and I agree with the controls, they were a bit.. ?!? I'll write a full review if I get a download code, though. =)
-
No idea, but on an unreleated note - I beat COD earler, and it's now 9AM and I never stopped playing since.... Worked through specops with my friend.
-
So, who took the download code?
-
Hrmm, I don't see why they'd be illegal in the EU, other than if you were an idiot and drank loads of lemon juice, thinking it was cola, you could screw yourself up due to too much acid intake.

Yeah, I don't get Frenchies either.

Well, I've coded most of the backend, I've decided to go for Python and Django as asss already uses a lot of Python, and I've never used Django so it can be a learning experience for me. I'll make another post once I've got the web UI up and running (i.e. after I learn how to use Django properly/securely). Currently, I've planned: User logs in with their SSC credentials, which is a limitation I've made among others to prevent a whole bunch of people signing in at once. User is then passed to setup page, where they provide their password for the webUI, zone name, website name (I'll add more features as I get around to getting the webUI working) The server then creates all of the folders necessiary, and edits the asss system.mk and conf files - the user will then be passed to their administration page where they will be able to edit any changes, then start/stop/restart their zone. I'm hoping to add an upload dialogue for maps/settings/lvz but as I said I'll look into that once I've actually got my head around Django, it seems quite different to Rails which I'm accoustomed to - so I don't know how long until I'll have something tangible up. If I can, I'd like to completely remove the need for ftp and ssh, but I'll see how things go first.

I don't want to put down this idea, because I do think that it is a good one, but I believe that due to players having to go down this route states that there are problems elsewhere in our system. Currently, even setting up a local server can be tedious to the average user, so I propose that instead of this we provide an entire hosting solution that is easy to utilize. I'm going to look into setting up an online UI that can allow SSC users to have their own hosting solution running quickly, which can be managed from the web. In my head, I've thought out pretty much all of the security concerns and I guess the zones will need some T&C's (in case I get 50 empty zones overnight, I will need some kind of population control that will more than likely be very lax) but I think it shouldn't be *too* hard to setup. The only reason I'm mentioning this is because I believe that putting a map up is only 10% of all zone development. Players will ultimately need to tinker with a lot more, and I also believe that a web UI to utilize these changes will be a lot more beneficial to your average Joe, who typically isn't even aware of how to change directory in asss. I figure the easier we make it, the more we secure our future. Either way, I'll have a go at my own proposed idea (unless somebody says something that will persuade me out of it) and will make a post here once it's done.

Blurring the Line between Virtual and Reality

So I see Savanna, Sierra, Sabrina, Rachel and Elizabeth, very white or nerdy names but then - Shoshanna... Is the the computer that is not very dependable, but runs very fast... with a large hard disk?
