  1. I personally don't feel that the issue is because zone operators want to hold onto their title; rather that they can't find other people who can fill their shoes without screwing everything up. Both Jab and RB have got good contenders for new clients; whether they finish them or not is not really anybodies concern but theirs or the developers that assist them. Anybody can help, including yourself. I don't think the issue is the lack of team work; I think the issue is the lack of people who have time to develop. People cherish their free time.
  2. A single zone shouldn't have been targeted; all of the zones which were doing it should have been. The issue is due to everything SSC being administered by somebody who lacks the time to administer anything. While it's good we get all this hosting for free, and the hosting is good (expensive) it's not good for the community as a whole. Saying that, with the game in the state it's in right now there's not much point in making a change now, the focus should be on a new client, and of course, with the new client a new credentials server. With the low populations count now, SSC isn't as valuable as it once was.
  3. The above should have been done months ago.

Dead zones are typically dead for a reason, whether zone operators like to admit it or not.

Most of the zones currently having an inflated population shows the typical mentality behind zone operators. The idea is a good one, but would require everybody hand over control to somebody whom will likely be perceived as an evil overlord in no time at all.
  6. Some SSC bouncer will probably work. I don't know if they're permitted, and if they're not I don't know if anybody gives a shit anymore anyway. As I said, the server will be staying online if nobody wants to take up the 20 bucks a month, I am just not going to be doing anything Subspace related from it anymore.
  7. Yeah. Somebody else is free to carry it on ($20 USD a month) if not I'll be closing it. I'm keeping the server but I don't mind if I move IP etc. The only thing that's valuable for Subspace is the IP as it's got SSC connectivity; I can't just give that to somebody else as I am renting it.
  8. Lol, 500USD for that... I have the exact same in my bookshelf collecting dust.
  9. Will be up until the end of the month. Please back up your content as when the server goes, it's gone; so is all the content. Thanks.
  10. I would have happily let you take over resoL, but then you disappointingly deleted the MG work and you've decided not to let anybody else resume. Which is lame.
  11. Sure if somebody who knows some Linux basics who wants to pay 20 bucks a month steps forward.
  12. If anybody wants to take over the Linux server I use for hosting, give me a shout. I can downsize to make it an affordable $20 USD a month. I have other servers on my account, so I will probably need to contact support and switch everything over to another account. Will probably need to get PoLiX's approval as I guess he handles that stuff (but I think that means you just don't need to be a jackass). Inbox me. Reason: I don't have time / care / interest / see any point
  13. The server will be going down for migration to a new host on Thursday, May 31, 2012 9:00PM EDT (Friday, June 1, 2012 1:00AM UTC) and will be down for approximately 20-25 minutes. All data, IPs and configurations will stay the same, however zones, bots and other services will need to be re-launched. If you aren't sure how to re-launch your zone or service please send me a message so I can put it on my list of things to do. Sorry for the inconvenience. Edit: odd formatting issues.
  14. We don't have a desktop client. Out of all the client architectures that are out so far, they would *all* require significant work to port to XNA or PS3. All of the game dynamics would be really off, not just chat, but movement and objectives. The price of launching is by no means an issue, heck, if somebody coded even a working XNA prototype I would myself happily pay for: 1. An Xbox 360 2. An XNA license 3. The updates But there are perhaps two or three people in the community that still code, and generally seem to have alterer motives behind their work anyway. Just sayin' if you can code: 1. A Client (secure, extendible) -- oh, and finish it. 2. A Server (secure, modular, open) 3. Tools (map editors, settings editors) 4. Finish 5. Manage the project (not let it fall to shit when it gets a few users) You can probably get a job that pays *very* well. This, my fellow player, is why we don't have a new client. People have lives, and the only reason anybody would want to code a project as big of a ball ache as this for as big of a ball ache crowd as SubSpace is either for: 1. Money 2. The notoriety (I don't get this one, but it's just a trend I've noticed) But I think others in the community have said that if you pay them X Y or Z they'll code the client, the server and let you handle the burden. I just feel that most of these people are probably on around £50+P/H or whatever the USA equiv. is, and that you'll be paying out your arse with little ROI. Sorry to be negative, but it's been a long day. You can probably monetize off a SubSpace like game in the iStores/GooglePlay etc markets but it will probably be less fun and pretty lame. /rant
  15. That didn't work either. I also can't ping that address.
  16. I couldn't connect either. Same problems as SpiderNL.
  17. I've played Infantry a few times and genuinely prefer the client. If you can get this done, it would be fantastic. If you need anything in the lines of hosting let me know.
  18. ^^ Parent is right. If you're going to get an SSD, pay the extra few bucks for a decent one. I bought a Crucial SSD (I forget the exact make/model) and found that the random read/writes weren't even in the same ball park as the Intel 510 series.
  19. Cheers for the link Xog; still just waiting on a shipment. They got delayed as one of the jacks were incorrect in a large batch so they had to reengineer them.
  20. i7, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD, 2TB HDD, thermaltake keyboard / mouse and a 1GB graphics card. 2x monitors... I don't really play games, last thing I played was Skyrim and it was more than capable enough for highest quality settings etc I also have a laptop, iPad and other crap I don't need. ;-P
