  1. @Purge: Well, I just wanted to see how far the client had got. Aside, I managed to get in contact with Pyxlz recently. And he agreed, since he could no longer develop his client, that he'd release the source code for his client (currently unnamed). Eventually, it will be placed on Sourceforge, so it'll be easier to manage. Since he's busy with other things, he may only be able to give pointers here and then, but he'd like for others to continue working on it. One thing to note is that the source was never designed to be maintained by other people, and in its current state it may not be compilable. Last I checked, it is written in C++ with Opengl and DirectX, and you may need to download DirectX sdk to get it working. I currently have the source, but I'm definitely not experienced enough with this type of stuff, and any/all help would be appreciated. Feel free to contact me or Pyxlz himself at the moment, I'll post updates when any occur.
  2. A lot of the things you mentioned are still work in progress. You can edit client-side (without recompiling source) which ships can shoot, what weapons they have and what they look like. I even managed to fix ship 9 (small turret) from having graphic issues (somehow the image names are set improperly in the precompiled version). In that same file, it shows the large turret (I'm guessing ship 0?), but it's not playable unless you edit & recompile the source. As for the ship settings you mentioned, remember that you're referring to SVS settings. Not all zones use them, and the basic red bullets are just there for the moment. Other things to mention are button sensitivity, and chat functions don't work discretion-wise (as in, discretion will recognize continuum sending a team chat, but can't use this function itself).. Aside, as for the ship 9 problem in the windows binary, here's the fix: 1. Go into conf\modules\Shipman.conf 2. Edit these lines: 3. And if you don't want the turret to be able to fly, add this at the end, right before [Turret] :
  3. Honestly, it's past 10pm EST. And I've had to wait an extra day since your timezone is slow...
  4. Heh, it took me all day to understand that April is tomorrow (about 6 hours from the time I write this)... So Cancer+'s got me half wondering if this just isn't a stupid April Fools joke too.
  5. Figured that much. The version above is 0.182, taken off subspace downloads. Would anyone happen to still have a copy of version 0.190 or other?
  6. So what did happen to pyxlz's client? Did he ever decide to finish it? http://img300.imageshack.us/img300/2622/subspace0182gt5.th.gif Edit: for those curious, the client can connect to certain ASSS zones, but since it's flawed, you can only do so much with it. I was able to chat, but not read anything. I could also place random thors on the map as spectator - client side only. You can enter in a ship and shoot normally for about a minute before being specced for excessive lag ; once specced, you a draw bombs lvl3 on the map (client-side only). Through Continuum, you can't see the Subspace 0.182 client playing though, but it will be able to see the Continuum client playing.

    Adios...

Unless you're 7 feet tall, you're being stereotypical about Japan - which I was too at first, admittingly. A lot of people are pretty tall here, except older people are usually on the short side. However, if you're considered tall in your own country, it will remain unchanged in Japan. Just a quick heads-up Edit: at least this is true for metropolitain areas, it may not be the same in the country-side (which there is practically none by our standards)
  8. I also noticed that DCME ~.02, after getting that error and closing the program, the program is still running if you look in Windows Task Manager. Anyhow, I went back to ~.01 which works fine.
  9. The only thing worst than someone not reading a sticky, is someone not reading the solutions and answers provided in the thread they posted. Anyhow, I'll repost this again: Read more in the sticky...

Tokyo/Japan's pretty interesting, much different from western countries, but I'm having a good time with food, people, school and my host family! -- And no, I'm not recommending anyone to play SS unless they make it possible to play on cellphones or nintendo DS (because absolutely everone has a cellphone at all times, and many just walk around playing the DS too).
  11. Agreed with the posts above; I'd recommend darker shades of grey and a much darker background. Other than that, it's ok.
  12. I get this message after the I close the tips window. After that, I click ok, but DCME won't respond anymore. This never happened in previous versions, but this time I set DCME to check for updates upon loading right before installing this update. Maybe that affected it? I don't really think this helps, but I'll post it anyways: 3/12/2007 7:05:03 PM --- Drake Continuum Map Editor (v3.1.2) starting... +++ OtherInstance 0 +++ openedMapByArgs False Un!@#$%^&*led 1 @ NewMap, path = '' usingDefaultTileset True Un!@#$%^&*led 1 @ NewMap, DefaultWalltiles = Un!@#$%^&*led 1 @ NewMap, DefaultTileset = Un!@#$%^&*led 1 @ InitTileset, tilesetpath= Default usingDefaultTileset True +++ Last update: 12-03-2007 - Update period: 0 +++ Searching for updates at http://www.dcme.sscentral.com/autoupdate/dcmeupdate.txt...
  13. There are currently two functional directory servers, playsubspace.com and sscentral.sscuservers.net . The second being run by Priitk / SSCouncil, and the first is independantly run by Doc Flabby (using a modified version of Catid's biller, running off a Linux server). The problem with running a biller such as priitk's, is that it requires all zones to add the directory to their server.ini and Priitk's is closed-source. Or by running other ones such as Catid's (if I'm correct), they can also get information from a second directory. But if that second directory goes down, all the zones listed on yours will go down too unless they have you on their server.ini . Anyway, hope this was helpful. But you should talk to Doc Flabby for more info.
  14. You're not very helpful as you don't provide much information. 1. What version of windows are you running? 98/98SE/2000/ME/XP/Vista/etc.? 2. How is SubSpace screwed up? Does it load at all? Do you get an error message? 3. Is the main screen messed up? Or is it just in-game? 4. If in-game, have you tried playing around with Continuum's Advanced Options? 5. Are you using a color depth (in options -> graphics) of 8bit, 16bit, or 32bit? 6. What resolution have you set it to? 7. Are you running any other programs while playing Continuum? 8. When installing Continuum 0.39pr1, did you install it in the same folder as Continuum 0.38 (which you should)? There's also stickied facts in this forum you could read, but more info would be appreciated if you want someone to help you.

Never! >.> cuz you're always afk anyway
  16. Imo, the SSCX wasn't that big of a thing, but this was only one of the most notable events. In the past year, there has been a huge shift towards from relying on Priitk for updating/helping the game, many zones have been (and are still) switching over to ASSS, and more player-driven projects have been making a bit of progress (Discretion, DCME, getcontinuum, etc.). There has also been a decline in players (unsurprisingly), and more servers shutting down, such as SSCB recently. SSCI has been doing pretty well for itself though, but let's not forget the taboos more or less related (Halo, etc.). Anyway, that's what I think. And I also don't think the .39 update is worth noting, since I still have doubts it will ever happen.
  17. this?, it's still pinned
  18. Once again, http://forums.sscentral.com/index.php?s=&a...st&p=151194 Source of problem: Do not change Continuum's compatibility mode. This does nothing except give you errors because XP can't emulate any other windows versions for Continuum. Hence, fatal error 000000D4.

As some of you probably know, I'm not going to be here for the next 5 months, because I'm leaving as an exchange student to Japan tomorrow ^_^ Which means I'll most likely not go into Deva during that time, so I won't see the new ASSS features either. I may or may not check up on forums, but don't count on me too much. For now, adios amigos! Edit: And if you ever wondered what this part of my signature meant " サブスペースにデバステーションは最善なゾーンです。" It just says Devastation is the best zone in SubSpace!
  20. I doubt it will be finished any time soon [if ever], but I'm curious to know if Priitk accepted to update Continuum or not.
  21. If you'd bother reading the thousands of previous threads concerning Continuum not loading on Windows XP, you'd know that this is caused by anti-virus programs. These programs include firewalls, adware/spyware/trojan remover software, registry cleaners, and anything that has to do with viruses of any sort on your computer. Most firewalls don't affect how Continuum runs, but most other virus removal tools will (such as Spybot, Ad-Aware, Spydoctor, etc). What happens is that Continuum has a built-in protection security that doesn't allow it to run if modified by external programs. This was mostly implemented to prevent external cheat programs. So if you ran a virus-scan or immunized your computer before opening Continuum, Continuum will probably not load. You won't be able to disable it by Ctrl+Alt+Delete, due to Continuum jumping all over the task manager and eating up CPU. Right before your computer is shutdown, you will get an error message saying "Failed to initiate Continuum .DLL". [One way to get around this is by using the "Run as" option, highly unrecommended since you won't be able to download new files] How to fix this : 1. When you first log on to your PC, open Continuum right away. It should work, unless you have all your virus scanners to auto-load before logging in to your account. 2. Do not run any anti-virus programs before loading Continuum. 3. If you are okay doing this, disable (and optionally uninstall) all known anti-virus, firewall, and the likes programs. - This will also help prevent future problems when loading Continuum. You can also try re-enabling them one by one to see which one(s) cause(s) the problem. 4. If you already know that you ran an anti-virus program before, you're only option is probably to use "Run as". - But remember you won't be able to load any new zones or arenas you haven't previously been in. Hope this helps more or less.
  22. From reading and knowing exactly how to prevent it, Ayden's error message was probably more along the lines of "failed to initiate Continuum .dll" + an OK button. That error message only appears when restarting or shutting down your PC when Continuum fails to load and eats up your CPU.
  23. The Complex didn't try much to promote the zone, and when I first tried it all the bots were dead and there was like 8 people in spec (ok, 4 bots, 2 mods, and 2 players in spec)... And the website which was promoted still isn't online. At the exception of bots now working, the rest is still as it was when it opened. Also, the 17th-ish appeal just shows that The Complex still can't break its umbilical cord. Being hasty is bad. Edit: and the periodic message tells me to read F1 to "make myself known to the Gameplay and its features"... I still don't know how to play...
  24. Nice ASSS manual, though I haven't read it thoroughly, it looks like you listed the essentials. I would volunteer to test out the megajackpot, but it depends when you will do that.

    Run As

If you really have to resort to "run as..." because you refuse to temporarily disable anti-viruses before running Continuum... Here's the link to Trench Wars' main downloads (the public map should be situated in the /level/ folder, as trench3.lvl I think).
