Afaik, it's impossible for a bot to tell who's defending a base with neuted flags (if you decide to have them drop the flags, that's a different story). Unless you decide to become Trench Wars style and have a permanent flag in the base... which isn't what Deva is about. -- There is one way, which would be for the bot to track which team was the last to touch/neut the flags, but it's flawed in the sense that, if team B takes over Team A's base, and doesn't touch a flag and keeps defending base, then Team A is awarded the points. A more simple and smart idea would be to promote the use of carrying the flags. All you have to do is make this a point game. After 20 minutes, the team with the most points wins. In which, it's easier to defend a base, and carrying flags already gives your team extra points. You could even add a higher points factor per kill for the team carrying the flags. (easily done in settings) -- And the teams could also win the jackpot, which would increase score, but it would be at their own risk, since the person holding the flags can't die or kill, in order not to reset timer. - So if the team consists of 3 players, 1 is holding the flags, while 2 others defend 3 opponents. Which puts them at a disadvantage, but it's a risk you take. You wouldn't only have to sit in a base, you could dogfight too. Since it's the team with the higher points that wins. And the jackpot could provide a good option for the losing team, if they'd manage to pull it off. So that's my 2 cents. Points, instead of time defended.
  2. Glad to hear from you Hallowed! That's all I wanted to know, that you were still alive. Edit: And I know I suck, but I offer my help anyways
  3. Not really, what SubSpace needs at this point is new players. Older players will find the site and be smart about it. But newer players won't even know SS, so they'll move on to the next best thing. - So these sheep are what make the game, they're what made SubSpace from the beginning, not necessarily the smart people. Anyhow, anyone tried contacting the people of subspacehq.com yet?
  4. For those with a patcher problem: http://www.galacticmelee.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=207 And yes Samapico, there are different zones with different objectives and gameplays. As for your ship, the more you play, the more experience you gain, and the more ships/items/weapons you can unlock. They don't necessarily give you an advantage, they're just more specialized.
  5. 1+1=田
  6. ummmmmmm. no. just no. The range of things DCME can do and support compared to SSME is far greater. If you can't live with the truth, go dig a grave now! And if the tileset is 256, blame deva, not the tileset
  7. 5. The random dying part is true, many players have noticed it. However, they either had unarguably god-like lag, and so were appearing and disappearing, and never even knew when someone shot and killed them. - In one case I killed a kid, and he didn't realize it, and was all like "wtf how did I end up here?". - Or, people need to buy glasses, because they can't see the shrap. 2. The ship is more responsive than SVS, just the bounce factor on walls sucks. The only other thing is that it's got friction, but supposedly the Wraith doesn't have any. 1. And too ez kills in GM? Maybe, especially if you're a SS player, but the settings are balanced, and the rich don't get more powerful, just get specialized weapons.
  8. It's interesting, reminds me of that zone which died, but had a similar map It seems geared towards a tournament-style map though. What I'd recommend is adding safes to every square, even the lower ones, like that if population is smaller, mods would still know where to place the odd players.
  9. Don't worry, he hasn't responded to mine either, which I sent a lot earlier :/
  10. Why would anyone in the world still use SSME? (unless they have windows 98SE or lower, that's understandable) Anyhow, you should be able to open it in SSME since it doesn't use any special tiles. So, it's basic, and reminds me of Alpha's thor event... At least I think it was Alpha, it's been too long ago to remember I think it could use a bit more color, since having everything red is depressing
  11. SubSpace doesn't support any other angles. Those 45 degree angles you're talking about are mere square blocks put together with an image that creates the illusion that the arrangement of tiles should create a 45 degree. SubSpace was never meant to support angled tiles of any sort, they're all interpreted as square blocks. Just look at the original VIE tileset, no angled tiles, all lines & square tiles (16x16). - Which means that SS handles everything as it was suppose to handle them. To further explain my point: *There's no actual transparency on the tiles, so usually it's filled in with black (here white, due to a white bg).
  12. Ok, so I'm not crazy. Comparatively, at this stage, SubSpace has more natural bounce than Galactic Melee. In GM, just by tapping the wall, you go flying away. So in corridors, it's impossible to control the bounce because the bounce factor is too high. But I know Rak'kar knows about this
  13. Last I checked, you don't bounce off on a 90 degree angle in Continuum. If that were true, then technically if you flew perpendicularly into a wall, you would bounce off 90 degrees to the right or left Yeah but the thing is, I was level 1, he was level 8 or so, which means he had to know how to play (that + he knew what SS & ce were). And he accused me of hacking, which was pretty funny imo.
  14. Lol there is very slight friction is SubSpace too at least in SVS - try it, fire your boosters, let go and wait... eventually you will slow down. yeah, but it still takes forever for you to slow down. Comparatively, in GM, it takes 1 second to go back into idle mode. Anyhow, what I thought was funny was that I entered as a noobie, didn't upgrade at all, played & easily owned ppl who played before, and cuz of my leet subspace skills I get accused of hacking
  15. On a related note, I decided to play the beta. I gotta say, it's a lot like SubSpace, just better in some aspects (but not all) The one thing that pisses me off though, is that the ships have friction... c'mon, it's space! where's the friction coming from? It's a total drag anyways. Graphics are nice, a little bit of jittering when others lag, but it's ok otherwise. Oh, and I didn't upgrade anything, and with the basics, I totally pwnd players who were... maybe defaults are too strong, and upgrades overrated
  16. So yeah, I don't know if I'm the only one to notice, but it's either a) you guys secretly moved the ASSS zone while I wasn't looking, or more likely b ) someone got fed up with the no-development, and killed the zone. Oh, and I've noticed this over a month now, and couldn't enter it for the past 2, but thought I'd post about it today And my point to this post was, how can anyone develop the ASSS zone if there is none? - And what's the hap. hallowed?

#1 You're missing my point. Even if the jackpot is good for the win and all... Put it this way: Jds, Hak & Gibbit ared all on 1 team. I pick up the flags, and since I can't kill or be killed, my only option is to run around & away, or else the timer, which is 180 seconds, will be reset. The thing is, you made the map smaller, and people might be using ships which have anti-warp. So I'll be running around like a coward, and make JDS and Gibbit defend me for 180 seconds against 3 opponents. --- In other words, I'll die ez pz. And I'll kill the ennemy flagger ez pz. So if we keep doing this, then the lameness continues... #3 - In order to display the jackpot lvz, you require a bot Which would lead to: are you going to need a bot or not? If there's no bot, then players can basically neut flags out of the map.

Flaw #1: A player wishing to drop the flags must not be killed, or cannot kill another opponent without having the flag timer reset. Instead, it will encourage 1 teammate to constantly run away, while the other teammate(s) attacks & defends. Since teams will have to consist of 2-3 members, it makes of a disadvantage. Flaw#2: What prevents players from dropping the flags - say, under your 20 minute quota? They could just grab the flags at the beginning of the game and run the whole time until timer expires. (!@#$%^&*uming of course, no moderator is around) Flaw#3: How do you stop the jackpot from rising after, say 30 mil?

  20. You guys can sort of stop arguing over it. While it's true the domain subspace.net has been around for ages, and has always pointing to this game, there's nothing we can do about it. Ahmed's unlikely to change his mind. And as Doc Flabby said, the domain has gotten more useless. Unfortunately many websites still point towards subspace.net , but most of 'em are old and outdated (reviews). Google dropped http://subspace.net from its search results a while back, so no harm's done.
  21. Yeah, I mentioned the shutting down error thing in the last update. It's nothing big, since everything still works & saves, it's just when closing the program you get a message saying "Drake Continuum Map Editor has stopped working" etc. 'close program'. But I don't have Riistar's 2nd problem. (oh, and I'm running Vista also)
  22. Could you make it dull and grey? Cuz I must have clicked it at least 7 times today thinking there's new posts, when all it is is a redirect And while I'm at it, can you get rid of this random space & ugly arrow between the 'forum central' link and general forums, in main? Forum Central --> Ps, this is only in the IP.Board 2.3 skin. It would also be nice if the buttons at the bottom could be put back on the right as they used to be (such as 'mark all posts as read', which is randomly centered)
  23. I'm gonna bump this until more people express interest...
  24. I think he meant this (ugly) thing:
  25. wtf? VIE is the same company as Westwood? Yeah, it was originally Westwood !@#$%^&*ociates, but then in 1992 it was sold off to Virgin Interactive and renamed Westwood Studios. But now it belongs to EA (since 2003*), like Ahmed said. In the end, most of VIE's games failed, but SubSpace just got the worst of it. Evidently I don't. Marketing is one thing, but the package is another. Sure there's a few pay-to-play games that do work out, but I'm just saying most games spawned from or inspired by SubSpace end up not meeting to their initial expectations. Cosmic Rift fails because it sucks both ways, Infantry is a good game, but failed when you had to pay for it. I'm just saying that I don't see what's going to make Galactic Melee so much different from the rest, with or without marketing.
