  1. It does. It then appends a random number to the name you request. The reason for this is because of the design flaw SSC as it does not distinquish between new users trying to register a name already in use or a password hacking attempt. Thus the only realistic solution is to attempt to ensure every username it creates is unique. I think adding an option for existing players to skip name creation would be a good idea. It would be relativly easy to get the installer to report "how did u find us" it would just have to hit a php script.
  2. Dont be so hasty, i put it up for testing.....not to be used. Its only been tested on one system running windows xp. I want to know if it works on other systems......and if there are any bugs or issues....
  3. (been talking about doing this for a while finally done it!) I've created a new, newb friendly installer. It creates a name and password for a newb player. Basically they can start playing straight away and don't' have to try to work out how to setup a profile. It only works on clean installs (ie to a new continuum folder) If you install over an existing install it leaves the current settings alone. If anyone cares to test it out. Ensure you have a FULL BACKUP (including passwords) it shouldnt delete anything it shouldnt but it still could if ive made a mistake Link below http://subspace2.net/Continuum040Setup-DocFlabby.exe Full source at http://subspace2.net/continuum040.iss if anyone wants it
  4. Most of the london subway is overground. What you may not realise is that the Uk is as normal using majority outdated tech. The is no air conditioning on the tube at the moment. They are considering installing it. In a hot summer temperatures can hit 37-38 degrees celieus underground Still the people who live in London are lucky, they have a public transport system that works. For anyone not living in a major city (aka pop less than 100k) the public transport system is pretty much useless. Trains and bus time tables dont tie up. I live in one of these more "rural" areas (only 30mins train ride from london) Buses run every 30 mins here. Except they stop at 5.30pm. Cost more than driving, even at the current prices. They frequently turn up late, or not at all. Trains come on time (generally) every 30 mins. Except they cost significantly more than driving. The Oyster is great except your details and all your trips are pretty much open season to the security services
  5. I doubt it as none of these features have been written yet We are looking for volunteers!
  6. I feel the worst candidate for the world would be Hilary Clinton. Anyone but her will be a good thing.
  7. I'd like to see ken go as i think staying in power too long is always bad
  8. I think this is a good result, keeping the main site clean from adverts for pure traffic (aka wikipedia and google) and have a separated adverted site for that kinda traffic (all those link exchange and top 100 lists and other spammage) pron sites often have a similar system
  9. I picked the ASSS article as an example of what people are doing wrong in ALL the wiki articles...Bascially giving opionions without backing them up. Adding there own personal bias to an article. I know there is alot of work to do, but its good to bring up these issues now, rather than later. I'm !@#$%^&*uming the objective of the wiki is to provide a balanced and accurate encylopedia of SS. Balanced means you provide both sides to every argument. Accurate means information can be verified. Personally I don't think we need the "VIP" player category. Any player that fits this category will have a wiki article about them anyway. IF they don't have an article they arn't that well known or important. Remeber all these VIP people would be nothing without the un-named players that are the real people who keep this game going. The reason this game is still going is because people still play it. Alot of these "VIPs" never even play anymore, i dont think they deserve a separte category, players are as important as them. You could always create an article that looks at what you think is the key players of subspace. Or analyses the importance of certain players. Or compares the contributions of players. For example the article on the SSC council could look at the role and contributions of each player in the Council has in Continuum.
  10. FYI, I wasn't the person who wrote that particular article on SSWiki. I am also aware I am far from being an authority on either Subgame or ASSS. I know you were not the writer of the article, i picked it as an example of what people are doing wrong in the wiki. i meant yourself in the 3rd person. As in oneself. So if you or anyone else were wanted to give their own opinion in any doc they should state they made that opinion in the lack of any other evidence. It wasnt directed at your specifically (apologies for not being clear) And just why is that? I am pretty sure ASSS has more features than Subgame; the only feature I know of that Subgame has that ASSS doesn't have is a more flexible /*sendto command, but that isn't much of an advantage and I am pretty sure that could be implemented in ASSS if they wanted to. My problem with "more features" is it doesn't tell you anything. Its like saying windows vista has more features than windows XP. Does that make it better? Some people would disagree. It would be better to compare the features between the two servers and allow the reader to make up their own mind which is more better. Samapico pretty much hit the nail on the head, you need to back up your arguments.
  11. Well you could just cite yourself in that case. If you think your opinion holds enough weight why not. You could probably simply reference the ASSS readme file or userguide to back up the more features. Its only obvious to people familier with both subgame and ASSS. To someone who knows nothing about ASSS, that line is like a advert. I know we can't be exactly like wikipedia but i think if you make an opinion in a wiki doc you should put your name, or someone elses (who said something similar) to it. Or its useless, who says something is often as important if not more important than what is said. If some newb says ASSS has more features then subgame, it doesnt mean much. If Greminlar or Mr Ekted says ASSS has more features, it holds alot more weight. I take issue with the term "more features" but thats another arguement
  12. A perfect example of what people are doing wrong in the wiki. "It offers more features and greater flexibility than [[subgame]]" Does it? Where is your references to back up that opinion "but requires more technical knowledge to implement." Another personal opinion. You have to back these opinions. Personally I dont think the player pages are very important except to boost some egos.
  13. I dont think many people here would be willing to pay me my asking rate for my work So lets hope I keep deving for continuum because i find it fun
  14. alinea from tw created these very nice banners a while back. http://www.codegrrrl.com/contbanners/ http://www.codegrrrl.com/contbanners/getcont88.gif http://www.codegrrrl.com/contbanners/getcont234.gif http://www.codegrrrl.com/contbanners/getcont468.gif http://www.codegrrrl.com/contbanners/getcont100.jpg Remember not to hotlink if you use them
  15. They might not be more willing, they just might be willing to work for less money.
  16. This is a bad idea. Choice is a good thing. We need more SSC zones. Even if everyone in SSC co-operated (of which i can guarantee TW wouldn't), all it would do is boost the egos of some zone owners who have empty zones...
  17. Well if you win you could donate it to the forums lol. Its up to the winner to decide! I would enter but i fear it would cause some issue with my credit card as i think for on-line gambling they treat it as a cash transaction I don't really wanna pay the fees...
  18. Bascially the errors are because the API Libary i'm writing sucks. It only has full "core" protocol support. It ignores nearly all the game packets (including checksum requests), which is why the red errors appear. It needs alot more work basically before its ready for use, i just wanted to see if what you had done worked more than anything, and it does! I was able to connect to my zone and download a map. Also twcore should be able to adapt the encryption code as c# is easy to convert to java I found it easy to understand and convert to c# apart from i got myself in a twist by CRC after encrypting and not before spent 2 hours on that one lol, but that was my fault for not reading (or thinking)
  19. As promised. I've added the Continuum Support using your amazing Oracle service! http://www.ssforum.net/index.php?s=&sh...st&p=214676
  20. Bit of a bump but this project never died. It continued as part of STF. Another exciting release for you all. Includes current network stuff for STF. SSAPI_0.12.zip Includes Continuum encryption support (thanks to Snrrrub and his oracle, he has done all of the hard work) http://www.ssforum.net/index.php?showtopic=19447 Someone clever probably could convert my c# code to java (if they wanted to add continuum encryption to a java bot) Complies with most of the core protocol. No real game protocol support , but can connect to a zone and download news + map (if you can work it out ) Don't even think about connecting to any ssc zones (without permission) using the continuum encryption, as you will probably get banned it raises alot of RED errors, which i'm not inclined to fix at the moment
  21. http://www.ssforum.net/index.php?s=&sh...st&p=214459
  22. Snrrrub, thats awesome! I've already implemented the encryption algorithms in my C# based SS API, so i will be able to add this to do the key-expansion
  23. The ironic thing is all the threats etc that are getting the movie removed from websites are only making the film itself more credible. Without these threats etc the film could easily be dismissed as a extreme right wing propagranda. The very fact its caused to much upset (amounst people who havnt even seen it) leads other people to think (mistakenly or not) that some of what the film must be true, or at least have a degree of truth to it. If no one had made any threats and the movie had been allowed to be shown, i doubt anyone would have noticed or cared. Then again rationality seems to be lacking from alot of people iN this world. Personally i think the very reaction of some parts of the world and people gives the film far more meaning that it would otherwise. I think the film maker is very clever, he knows the film is crap, he makes a crap film putting as much things that will cause "upset" in it. His point he is trying to make is not made by the film, rather by the reaction to it. The reaction tells you everything you need to know, without even having to see the film. (after all the people reacting to it, most have not even seen it)
  24. I can make it use command line parameters, that will work better, temp file is horrible I'll have a go at fixing all the bugs, the send before connect is a big one lol. Also it really needs an option to have a auto command at login (for chats etc) If that error only appears when running it from inside lazerus, it might be to do with the project is set to compile without debugging symbols, or it might be a bug in lazerus.
  25. Prehaps if they updated there verson of php-nuke, or used a real CMS it would stop happening. Also they probably should remove the version number of there software from there page. But i guess seeing as its happened so often before...no one really cares
