Its just wrong. What I can't understand is some of the same americans who think drink, drugs and abortions are evil, seem to think this is ok. If you support this you have no moral authority on anything.

If google a bit more it turns out they never breached the actual security of the computers controlling the machine but rather an outer network. Because it enables scientists to be able to run experiments without having to be on site.

Yes exactly. I don't expect Priitk's directory server to go back up soon. The solution would be to set a different directory server (which is only a configuration setting) or get the program to ping the servers every 5 minutes instead of downloading the server list every 5 minutes (so it keeps showing stats if the directory server is unavailable). I fear that with an alternative directory server the most popular zones aren't listed (because alternative directory servers aren't configured in the zone's server.ini). I'll ask a TW sysop to see if that's true and get it changed if necessary. At the moment ssdir.playsubspace.com lists nearly all of the zones (it still has a copy of prittk's dir entries in its memory) I suggest someone syncs from my server in case it goes down. Even better get the zone sysops off their lazy !@#$%^&*es and add the extra directory servers to their list. I was wondering who controls the trenchwars.org domain. They could create a DNS A entry and redirect sscentral.trenchwars.org to a working dir, which would mean new players would be able to get an uptodate zone list.

At the moment the LVL is converted into a vectorial format client side (its converted into a large number of squares). The limit on map size is in the protocol and is on the server side not the client side. The main problem at the moment for larger levels is ASSS its got a fixed idea of what a LVL is. However one technique would be to use a number of subarenas to handle larger levels, this would also get around issue with the protocol. Interestingly something like WoW employes the same technique. What you think is one big level is acctually split into many smaller levels. My eventual idea would be to have one large level file that is split automatically at the server level. Somewhat related to this goal is this: http://forums.minegoboom.com/viewtopic.php?p=78453#78453 Which is going to be needed for fast rendering and collision detection. There is a great demo here http://lab.polygonal.de/2007/09/09/quadtree-demonstration/ of why its a good technique.

The question is...how does it look in chrome ;P

- Thats cos you leave the confines of the map (nothing to stop you yet lol) - "- The chat console i wrote in about 5 mins and is bugged and isn't working properly with non letter characters:" known issue Thank you for helping test tho!

Please let me know if it crashes or has any performance issues!

I'd like to see what both you and samp have done already as i know you've done quite a bit. The problem is i don't really have the time to trawl though all the source, so if you've got screenshots or demos i can have a look at then i can see where we are at.

More of a progress update. Network stack has been completely rewritten in C++ and now works properly (still missing some functionality but most is there) Controls Enter - Chat Console T/Y Rotate view pgup/pgdn zoom esc - exit arrows control ship It connects to the zone PSS STF Test Zone. If other people are online you can talk to them. Notes: - The chat console i wrote in about 5 mins and is bugged and isn't working properly with non letter characters: - You cannot see others players ships (thats next to get working) - If you enter the zone using continuum, you can see the ship flying around (not quite working right yet either) http://www.subspace2.net/demo9.zip You might need to install the vc8 run time. This can be downloaded here. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en

The game engine is true 3D. The flexibilitiy of the engine means you could still go for the fake 2Dish view if you wanted to. Yes if you want a FPS or an RTS theres x100 engines out there i've yet to find a convincing (free) 3D engine for use in a game like this. You may remember GalacticMelee that used the Ogre3D engine it was slow and i felt struggled to fit the game. Finding Designers for the ships and object will be relativly easy as the engine will support a number of generic model formats for ships (only milkshake3d at the moment). These are off the shelf formats used in many games. The problem I am struggling with at the moment is what format to use for levels as formats. I may have a look at the format decent uses. We already have great LVL editing tools. The aim is to use off the shelf tools where possible to make it easy to develop for the platform. Probably more hope and luck than planning. The aim/plan is to produce a playable demo which has similar functionality to Subspace by the end of the year. eg: You can play online and shoot other people in a spaceship. Anything more than that is a bonus, but thats the benchmark.

The commercial version of wine might be worth a try as that has mac support. You can download a trial version. Its only like $30 to buy. http://www.codeweavers.com/products/

Its cos they want their advert money. Forums get alot more hits than random links.

I disagree with SeVer's plan it would fail. MY solution would not lower drug taking, nor is that its aim, its aim is to save money and decriminalise the population. Sure its easy but its not very efficient. People could do that now if they wanted to. Easy enough to plant them somewhere out of the way. The Pros here break into empty warehouses and fill them with co2 and envromental control equipment and grow using hydroponics here... Or thoses at the lower end rent houses and fill them with plants and stick the heating up to max. http://www.crimestoppersscotland.com/hothousecrime.php for some pictures its a serious business. If the aim is to limit drug use, its not working. Drug use is slowing increasing. http://www.vistabay.com/blog/?p=3 My logic is this, why criminalize a large number of people for what they choose to put in their bodies and waste police time that would be better used fighting real problems like poverty. The whole moral argument against drugs is totally inconsistant, we dont arrest obese people for eating Mc'D and make them go on rehabilitation cources. Obsesity is costing us far more than illegal drugs are terms of human health. Even more amusing is the secound biggest area of drug abuse is "legal" percription drugs. Illegal drugs didnt' kill Heath Ledger, Legal ones did (thats not to mean illegal drugs cant kill you they can, but my point is legallity is not linked to health risk).

Hate to point this out but the cost for producing drugs is really mininimal, you guys are thinking the street price is similar to how much it costs to produce.. Its just growing a plant and processing it. No different to how alot of foods are made. Weed could easily be sold at the price same level as tobacco (including the aroun 60% tax they have on it here) Something like ectasy is probably as expensive to produce as proplus tablets so easily taxed as well. Alcohol is very cheap (most of the cost is tax) even with the expensive and length production process of many drinks. the markup from producer to street dealer is in the range of 1,000-2,000%. http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/44888000/gif/_44888602_drug2_markets_flow_466.gif source:http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7531860.stm You can grow tobacco too very easily and make your own beer, but most people are lazy In the UK we stop around 10% of illegal drugs getting into the country at the cost of 4Billion pounds. We spend another 4 billion on criminal procecutions of users and dealers. So thats 8 Billion pounds a year thats achieving very little to damange a sector worth 5billion pounds. We would need to stop 60-% to have any impact on the market. This is why the current situation is hopeless. The solution is to legalise and tax. We spend more on drugs enforcement than we do on on sports facilities, recreation(parks etc) and culture (museums).

The USA would never have got involved even if it wasn't at war in Iraq and Afghanistan. The area is far far more important to European interests than it is to the USA. 3 or 4 very large oil and gas pipelines to Europe go though Georgia, their main function is to reduce its dependence on Russian Oil and gas. Cut theses off and alot of mainland Europe is at Russias whim pretty much. The strategic importance of the area is why so many nations are getting nervous about it. It will be interesting how this turns out. Hopefully its not the precursor to WW3

Anyone with any sence knows that prohibition doesn't work. history has proved this time and time again. All of the currently illegal drugs were legal at some point. cocaine was even used in coca-cola. I agree with all of those plans. The only problem is you still need to allow new users to access drugs or the people who are "registered users" will simply sell them on, they will become the new dealers. The answer is anyone should be able to register to buy drugs (over legal age e.g. 18) they are then given an ID card and can then buy them from government apporved outlets. These should be plain buildings with windows, ie no advertising and no way to see inside. Theses can have lots of information on how bad they are for you and how to get help etc (like there is on tobacco packets). Also make drug taking illegal in public (like drinking is in many places, and smoking indoors) The idea is to remove the glamour from it. Another suggestion would be why not just "improve" the existing recreational drugs and create safer versions. I'm sure the large drug companies have a wide range of recreational drugs in there back catelog just waiting for the ok from the governments before they release them.

I often get the feeling for the people at the top this (usa, russia, china etc) is all just like a big chess game to them. Deaths are just number on a piece of paper to them. Lest we forget Usa,Russia and China still have intercontinental nuclear missiles ready to launch in 10 minutes at this very moment in time...

The irony is both Toyota and Honda build and !@#$%^&*emble their cars in the USA for the USA market. However Ford and GM offshore alot of their production So American made really is better but it needs Japanese design and Quality Control
-
Its stable but not bug free, i'm willing to work on making it bug free if it will get official support, I don't see much point fixing the problems if no one is going to use it, got other things my time would be better spent on

Some more info on TW radio server (run by me) Its run on a dedicated server (which also hosts a number of zones and websites) with a 10MB connection. We've never maxed it out. This server costs me $24.95/mo for this server. We have a policy of 64kps or less, to keep costs down and also as many radio hosts struggle to upload any higher reliablily, espcially those on cable. Also it allows people on dial-up to tune in, not everyone has super fast connections. Don't forget about the Euro players, an east coast server is probably the best location. I would recommend picking up a cheap did server somewhere (range $20-40$) or using a small VPS ($7/mo) only need to run one service. Also i recommend using Icecast as its compatable with Shoutcast and much more stable form my experience. We started with Shoutcast but it kept crashing and got hacked.
