  1. First, connect the computer directly to the "special" wall plug. Get the computer online first (via the instructions the ISP provided.) Make sure you remember any login info that the ISP provides and any DNS and gateway settings. Then, unplug the computer from the "special" plug and into the router, and the router into the wall. Read the router instructions on how to access the router's settings from the PC (for my linksys I go to the web browser and visit the IP address 192.168.1.1) In the router settings, set up the access type and password (PPPoE, auto recieve IP, static IP, RAS etc. You will know which type to use, based on the ISP instructions (I use Auto IP for my ISP, with no username/password.) You may also need to set any gateway and DNS info on your router (obtained from the ISP.) Then go to the router's MAC address settings, and have it clone the MAC address of the PC you use. Save those router settings (if you havent already) and close the browser. Unplug the router's POWER cord for a couple secs and then plug it back in (basically rebooting it, but DONT use the reset button on the back, because it may remove the settings changes you previously made.) Give the router about a minute to reboot/connect and then try a website that you know works (like yahoo.) If you can't get to it, then reboot your PC and try to view the site again. If you still arent online, go to the PC's etwork setting (where you set up the PC as per the ISP instructions in the beginning) and remove all settings for DNS and IP, but leave the gateway. Set the IP to auto receive. Try the web. If no go, reboot the PC and try the website again. If you aren't online by now, come back and share some more details and we can work from there.

  3. The computer that blocks ports is the same one that routes your data to the outside world... kill the port blocking computer and you kill the internet access.   4. clone, no offense here, but I've been playing this game for almost 8 years straight now, and have seen each new version as it is released, as well as the major bugs that get found. If your testing was truly a "bug" in the game... 1) I would have noticed it a LONG time ago, and 2) someone else in the community would have noticed it a long time ago. Check your lag with a /*info in the same zone. At the same time, plz be aware that the statistics that the server reports for your lag are on a sample of about .01% of your total packets. It's an estimation, a sampled statistic, not your lag for every packet you send. Try this: in the zone where this occurs... have a sysop pm you with: /*lowbandwidth 1 It causes all packets to be resent (sent 2x) and see if that fixes your problem. (as you can see, there is already a command to address your problem, a command that is many years old) so this is not the first time this type of problem has happened, but it is not commonplace.

  6. If you want to test for yourself.... try playing in chaos/league dueling sub-arenas. At the end of each fight, there is a readout of bullet damage dealt. The lost bullets thing you mentioned earlier.... the close to medium range dropped bullets. Thats just lag, total coincidence. BUT when you are FAR away, that's a valid scenario. In order to save bandwidth, the server only sends weapon packets to other players within a certain radius (defined in the zone settings.) If you are outside this radius, then you do not see those weapons. Ever. The best example I can give is this: Player A and Player B are fighting at A1... Player A lays a big fat minefield. Player C (B's teammate) has been chilling down at T20. C gets bored, and attaches to B in the middle of his fight with A. So A tries to be sneaky and mine-rep C into his minefield. On player A's screen, he reps C into and through the minefield and loudly exclaims, "WTF you cheater, you just ate a minefield with 5 mines!" Player B see's this too. Player C (because he was out of the weapon radius) never sees the minefield, and happily (not dead) replies "what are you talking about?" Same thing with bullets.

By the basic definition of each, they are both servers... if it has 4 legs, barks, and wags it's tail: it's a dog, if it sends you a "web page" that you view: it is a "web server" and if it only sends you a "news" file: then its a "news" server. Regardless (back to the topic) these are the things that need to be added in order to add functionality to the news.
  8. I wrote that specifically to see who was gonna reply like you did. Thats the basic definition of a webserver, and Continuum WILL need to do that unless the page data can be streamed, on the fly, to a custom "browser." (note to self: put another notch on the avatar.)

  11. Sounds weird, but check near/on the power supply (on the back of the case) for a switch that says 115 and 230. Make sure it's on 115.
  12. the bigger issue is with having the "webserver" set up on the machine with subgame. Webservers are installed apps, and theoretically, you can have any machine with a fresh OS install, up on the web, with subgame running... and it will work fine. But now you wanna add web serving capabilities. You need to add server code to subgame and add a browser to Continuum (or use IE to open it.) Don't forget about the security end of it (being able to type in a web address for any of the server's core files, lvz, lvl, etc. files.)

  15. The server re-reads the server.cfg (or any other .cfg) at intervals, so it takes a while for changes to take effect.
  16. go to advanced options, and make sure it looks like this: http://www.bargeld.us/storage/advoptions.gif If it looks like this already, or changing it doesn't fix your problem, you may need to download newer drivers for that onboard video chip. If you have already done that... you may be S.O.L.
  17. Drizzit, all these versions of FACTS are working versions... it's your old -*BAD WORD*- version of Win98 that is broken. Go to http://www.microsft.com and download the VBasic Runtime updates (most importantly, service packs 5 or 6.) It's not enough to download these .ocx files and put them in windows\system, you have to "register" them (basically this means instal them.) That is the only way to ever get FACTS running.

You need to configure the port forwarding in the router to send all packets that are received from the internet (on the port you have specified for the biller) to be forwarded to the specific machine that is actually hosting the billing. Outside zone sends to IP:X.X.X.X (port XXXX) -----> Router with IP:X.X.X.X (port XXXX) ----forwards to---> Computer with billing server (port XXXX)

  22. I hate geocities. You can't have a hyperlink directly to an image like that, it says "page not available." (I already did the properties>paste to new browser window thing and saw them tho.)

  24. All made entirely from scratch, by me. For the terrain, I made a 1-sided plane about 1,000 x 1,000 intersects (maybe more, can't remember off the top of my head, and it takes forever to open the scene in Max.) Then apply noise to it, and tweak the amplitude settings: whoala Terrain. Texture was "cell" (internal texture, rather than a raster image,) but you could use any number of the internal ones... just play with it. I liked cell because you could set multiple colors for it. For the water: repeat as above but MUCH less amplitude on the noise, and use reflect texture with a bunch of transparency (you can use refract too, but the effect is way overpowering unless you lower it till it's barely noticable, and at that point, it's not worth adding the render time for it.) But if you watch the movie, the water's "noise" keyframes actually change over time, which gives it a flowing effect. I don't really mess with this scene much any more, cuz it's just a hog to open and work with.   25. Actually, it's 3DS_Max, and that image took about 2 hrs to render at that res... mostly because of the ship texture (both reflect AND refract textures combinred with environment fog.) Now if you wanna see the 20 sec movie: click here (5 megs, 320x240, no audio.)
