  1. ah, you cleaned it up again. Looks better.
  2. Don't worry. There are 2 plans in the works to boost population. Funny enough, this was one of them, and a bot beat us to it. But eh, not on as big of a population as we plan to reach.
  3. Currently IPB 3.0 beta has stopped every bot in its tracks that they have thrown at it. The issue, the current release version does not. So I think this will be the next release/fix, upgrading the registration spam control to the same standard as 3.0.
  4. No, they're not. Well, recycle atleast. I went over a lot of ideas the other night with Sketter, and told him to PM freakmonger here on SSF. Anything that could be done from the zone's side has been. So must be something with Subgame itself, or something in the firewall on that port. Though the fact Subgame is thinking it is being packet flooded when it is not is also interesting. I'd try a fresh subgame install and see where it goes.
  5. Somehow, it'd seem SSF was one of the many who got connected into this. Googleing it, have found some phpBB boards along with IPB boards we're effected. IPB Update Note from Admin CP: So seems they are trying to fix it. Expect MANY more pms from MANY more forums over the next few days. Here at SSF, the name used was: mignulikz
  6. The hardest part of it is that the majority of the population plays on servers ran by Priit. So it'd be hard to do it quietly, and what is not to say once he realizes it, things fall apart. This is why it was discussed if it we're to be done, the current db is needed. Though lots of efforts have been / are being made towards that. Talk to me on msn and i'll discuss more on that. There was a time SSCX had everything ready to ditch SSC, but that never fully happened. I think the best/only way to do it is either fully restart (chaos, though happened before), or get/pull data from the current db. If you have a way to do this, then ok. But until then, we're gonna have some issues. And on the source code. For those who have tried unpacking continuum and sniffing around. Maybe check out KaZaA's backend or Skype sometime. Might find some interesting things. We're never gonna get the source code. That is 100% outta the question, sorry.
  7. The getting of scores access is a pain in the butt, but GS may finally be able to get it now for me and his project. I do have the Schema for the scores table, and really, it is as you'd expect it to be. No doubt the rest of the biller db is the same, but that's another situation.
  8. [19:57] ALEX: Oooo, I like You've got me and Ghost's approval on the design honestly. Until I start actually scripting, adding content, etc. I won't really know if there is something limiting/annoying on it. But the overall layout is exactly what I asked for. The design is different colors wise than what I asked for, but you made it work, and it looks so well I'd hate to have it changed. I like it honestly. The star background in the menu is cliche of newb websites, but I hate how it scares everyone away from doing that just cause of it. I like how it fits in with the theme on this one. A SubSpace website. My opinion right now.
  9. Riistar, added. Thanks for pointing that out. This is why i was hoping more sites would add it. Just cause I got it bug free on SSF, SSDL, and HS finally, doesn't mean it is 100% bug free.
  10. Might use CMSMadeSimple again. Was debating Joomla, but bleh. Drupal I've never seen on a running site. Link me? Also, design looks way beyond what I expected right now. GJ Larry.
  11. That and EG is still wanting to make the move to ASSS. I think they'll be the really proof of a large zone running stable on it.
  12. After many years, I finally have a reliable strong team that has stepped up and is willing to help out. I kind of hoped that would come of my "What is with this community?" thread. As you all always know, my threads have meaning/reasoning behind them beyond what I post. Subspace Online will replace SSCentral.com as the main portal site. It will be very dynamic, with lots of updates and information. A LOT of the content is already done, and waiting for a design that can be dynamically updated and changed as needed. We will also reek benefit for new players by having a domain that is easily rememberable, and well known. SSCentral.com, after I quit admining, went into a state of static content, or dynamic content just populated from the forum activity. So really, the site was almost useless. Granted the team in charge was busy and had little time for it, but it really killed the site as a common site to visit daily. Toss on the issues I had getting design updates on the recent design, and the fact I hated having a half ass site loaded up, the site seemed mostly dead. So with a fresh start, a new administration, and content ready to go, we are going to put a lot of effort into this site. We want to make it a portal like every other game has, and like this game deserves. I'm not going to hype it up much beyond that, due to the fact I will only have weekends to work on it, but Larry has already made a lot of progress on his part, and Cre is just biting at my ankles to get it going. IP.Converge will allow us to make 1 universal login between SSF and the site without having to do much custom coding or modifications on either site. And just as a bit of justification to my 2.5yrs of debating this. I asked the most disconnected players in our community (TW newbies) if they ever been to SSCentral, and none had even ever heard of it. I then asked if they ever been to SSForum and they had been or had atleast heard of it, or knew it was the tech support forum. So realy, I decided SSForum needs to stay as is, but it is fair to try a new path on the ss website, and SSCentral served its time long beyond all the others. Though it will still be used for subdomains and a redirect as it has been known for hosting sites for ages now. I'd like to hear opinions, good or bad on this, as it was decided amongst many the name SUBSPACE or CONTINUUM should be in the portal website, and Subspace.us just didn't cut it for being a "Meet players from all over the world... then kill them" type of game.
  13. If discretion was completed, which I really hope it some day will be would you use it? Or what if Snrrrub completed Snrrrubspace, would you use it? Again, or what if we hacked the continuum client up, and hacked the subgame server for more features and security, would you use it? On a side note: As with all my recent topics, these are real discussions being taken on, and after months of it being discussed in private between a few, I (and I know Snrrrub also) feel the public has a right to opinion in all of this. Your guy's ideas will be heard, trust me. And on that, keep them realistic and within possibility. Remember, we still have a slightly stubborn community, but one who is crying for a new client, or atleast one updated and supported.
  14. If the option ever came up, what would you think? I mean, we'd probably have to find some way to transfer a player database, or build the new one from the old. That or just give up our aliases and start over again. Well, the later probably most unlikely. But if it was possible to get the database, and it'd be beneficial to the community in all the new features and additions that could be made, would you ever support it? There has just been a lot more discussion about this again lately, and figured maybe I'd open it into the public's eyes.
  15. Well since ASSS released, the multi-zone on 1 server thing has always been a big advancement in zones kind of sharing the effort. Between that and a lot of the SVS zones merging into Chaos, we've seen a lot of combined efforts. Now with a lot more information on Subgame peering, and the packet information out on how to connect an ASSS and Subgame Zone, and ASSS to ASSS zone, you can share arenas between multiple servers. Now the only problem could be settings, as most zones settings are far from each other, but some have modified arena settings for events, etc. that are pretty close. Imagine having EG and TW sharing like a zombies arena, or dodgeball. Something that isn't really zone specific. Not only would it be good for cross population, but it'd be good for the events themselves, and uniting zones. Now I'm not saying this would happen, but just an example. I think this could definately help smaller zones overtime. Just my 2 cents.
  16. Since it has been mentioned and asked for, and now I have it 100% bug free, the code for the navigation bar is as follows: <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript" src="http://network.sscentral.com/nav.js"></script>
  17. Personally I think if more sites added the nav bar, it'd help us connect even more. But so few seem to care to add it, or even want to. I brought up the idea a long time ago to Mackie and MGB, and they we're down for it, but nothing ever came of it on their part. Maybe I need to speak with them about it again or something. SSForum will also install IP.Converge with the release of 3.0 which will allow any forums to connect to us and share user information/databases. No this won't be universal control or administration, all it will do is allow them to do is have their basic profile information automatically entered into another forum without the whole registration process needed. Should benefit us all, as people won't need to register 20 different places and on 20 different forums. Now, I'm not saying all forums and sites have to do this, but it will benefit us and a few other sites greatly. Login info between forums, CMS scripts, and even custom coded scripting can be shared. Bans, Posts, Profile Information (Beyond username, pass, and e-mail) will all be seperate. Also will allow 1 portal page with information and links to all the sites and forums sharing info. This is just one of many ideas and projects on hold waiting on IPB right now, but will be completed.
  18. He did design it, and then he could never really explain to me clearly what he wanted. Our times never worked out, and when he'd ask me to come in the zone, I'd normally be at work. And times I'd suggest didn't work for him. So he sent me files, explained what he wanted, but was too general about it, and I had no clue what the zone was about to understand. He told me to "just play the zone and i'd figure it out" but never did. Then I asked him for some more graphics, and never got reply. Was hard to fix a design when the text wasn't working right since I didn't have the files it wanted, or the fact his photoshop was a different language than mine so it wouldn't find the fonts right sometimes too. Then he decided to turn his zone into ASSS, something I never played much with. So after Trained spent a whole year trying to help get anything outta him also, we gave up. I didn't have the time to keep trying to screw with things and find fonts that worked/figure out when i'd have the right font he sent me, photoshop wouldn't think it was the right one, or the look would change, even with the same settings. So yeah. I've been suggested to talk to RiiStar, and Cre> said he'd talk to larry. And I know larry keeps trying to im me when I'm at work, so never can talk to him, but yeah. And I know people would like to help, but the ones who can do what is needed won't. That is really my point there.
  19. A few years back, I posted saying that in just 3-4yrs using the alias PoLiX I went from a joe smoe player to running and working on most the major websites, having run lots of SSC Zones/Zones period, staffing lots of major zones, helping lots of zones, etc. I mean use to, players got involved in the game SOOO much. Now, as me and Joe (swift) have discussed many times on the phone, it has turned into a "wait on one guy" type of thing. Noone steps up, noone tries to help, etc. Use to had I posted I needed help with SSCentral, or needed a design, people would be posting all sorts of content, designing stuff, etc. They wouldn't just be like "I'll help" and wait on me, or once I request their help, kind of disapear or back off. I work 40+hrs a week, and I just can't do it alone anymore. It is really what has made me lose sooo much motivation, that even the smallest let down, I just give up. If people can't be reliable and help rebuild, why should I do it for them. There use to be LOADS websites with LOADS of traffic and staff and people always willing to help. Subspace.net, Subspacehq.com, SubspaceZone.net, and SSCentral.com just to name a few. Any time any of us needed help, we had it in a heart beat. Hell, SubspaceDownloads.com (created from downloads.subspace.net) and SSForum.net we're made on a wim, and the community jumped in to help them and make them popular and supported. Now a days, if the same was done, the sites would die in a week, if not less. I mean, I have been searching everywhere for someone who can actively design for us. I lack the time anymore, and did it for too many years. Anyone else we've ever picked up just dissapeared on us. Yeah, ss websites aren't a paying job, but I know many ex-webmasters who include the sites they ran in their resumes, and Archive.org really helps finding and showing them at their prime. You guys say "There is no SS drama or news". There is tons of SS stuff to talk about. Fuck talking about it just on a zone's forums, thats how we use to do it. Granted through time the group who said "Who cares, post it on your zone's forum" or "Noone cares here" we're the ones who posted the most, and chased a lot of people away no matter the damage control we did. But any news is SS news. You guys want a news site, and yet what do you expect to be posted there? General subspace news... So what is wrong with posting that in this forum. IE: EG started doing old map day again, come check it out. I mean anything can be posted in here, but the lack of SS stuff really kills things. So if you really want to save this community, save your time and money outside, and focus on helping what is here before trying to bring more people into an unstructured dying game. Just my 2 cents
  20. The downside is that even though there has been more paid events in history where the winner got the money, noone will ever forget the 1 where a player didn't due to all the drama and how long the saga lasted. Give the guy some support. Unlike many players, he is actually putting money into the game to help.
  21. Sounds like a confused family who during their grief one of them acted a bit irrationally, and a greedy lawyer got their hands on them.
  22. Oregon (1st State to pass a law allowing it), and Washington. But as I said before, funny enough, since passing it, Oregon has had less assisted suicides than the avg state without the law.
  23. Dunno. Saw this on a show once. They actually got in touch with the guy who did this and interviewed him. Was in some city in Canada, can't remember the name of it. I think it was also set up if I remember right.

Doing some searching found a few posts about issues with cross global connections and them, but not to all US servers. So could be them or could be the servers. Trace Metal Gear, Extreme-Games, and T3 The Gauntlet! and post them if you could. Will give us a bit more variety of the servers and see if it is the 1 server (as DSB is off on their own from rest of SSCU) or if it is the cross atlantic connection your ISP routes through.
  25. It is always smarter to install your OS on a seperate small hd or partition. One only a gb or more in size over (IE: XP 4gb). Then move your program files, common files, my documents, and favorites to the other hard drive or partition. Why? Fragmentation, and Searching. Everytime you open, change, move, save, really do almost ANYTHING to a file, it moves around on the partition, or is fragmented amongst it. This causes more holes and data for windows to read through to find what it is looking for on the HD. Same thing with having all your programs there. Even if you never ran them, it is still more data and files for Windows to scan the hd through looking for what it needs. And Searching, well as it scans from 0 to 4gb and over and over it finds things faster. Again, improving perfomance. I once went 6yrs without re-installing 98 after learning all of this from a HD vendor's website. It now is also all over the internet, and for most companies a common standard with their higher up pre-builts. My 2 cents.
