Blank screens and 'autoredraw' errors should not be a problem anymore. It's still possible to get them if you don't have a lot of video memory, but you'll need to have a lot of maps opened at the same time. 3.4.11More memory usage optimizations, especially for LVZ images Selected LVZ coordinates are updated as you move the selection Selected region is shown on top of the others with its full color to make it easier to see [*]3.4.10 Major improvements on memory usage, especially for ASSS regions Fixed minor regions display bug

That's about what it took for DCME in previous versions too... Now it doesn't take more than 5 seconds

you're missing the point root... He's talking about something that could let you playback an event, and you could still move around as a spectator and watch from any angle. It's a great idea and it's not that complicated. I'm pretty sure it's been mentioned at some point earlier though. Also, the playback file created would be much smaller than a video, and it would be played by the engine itself, keeping maximum quality

Try out the test release I just put up in the Downloads section... Performance features: -24x less memory used by ASSS regions -Only one instance declared for each drawing layer, instead of declaring them in each map, which results in more or less 18MB memory used instead of 18MB memory used for EACH map. The result of this is NO MORE blank screen caused by regions-intensive maps. However, LVZ images still use quite a lot of video memory, so it's not impossible you get blank screens with several LVZs. Improvements: -There was a small bug with ASSS regions where the bottom row and right column of tiles didn't show the regions correctly; that is fixed -The selected region is now drawn ON TOP of all the other regions with its actual color, making it more visible There are still some glitches like if you try to hide a region, it also selects it and shows it back... By the way, I just took my 7300GT out of my computer to run on the sucky Intel chipset to test these issues better... And I did notice a huge difference. With 3.4.09: I could not even open a single map of hyperspace correctly, not all the regions were shown and as soon as something else had to be shown, everything went white. I also could only open about 5 or 6 EMPTY maps before it went blank. With 3.4.10: I could open 10 maps easily, including 3 hyperspace maps I did not test with lvz's yet, since I haven't improved those yet.

Ok... Apparently the fix for the regions IS working. It's possible to open more region-intensive maps without getting a blank screen. But it seems I'm still unable to effectively free the memory used by the display layers on inactive maps... There are 6 layers for each map opened, on a 1024x768 resolution that means 3MB x 6 = 18MB for each map opened. Normally, it should only take 18MB total, only for the active map, instead of 18MB for each of them. I might go the lazy way and make these layers global and have only one instance of them instead of having them declared in each map...

I used Chrome as my primary browser for a while now. It works well... There's this annoying bug with textboxes, sometimes it's not redrawn right and it looks like you're writing over your text, but bleh... You can resize the textboxes as you wish, that's pretty cool. There are a lot of bugs that might be fixed in the current Chromium build, which is the very latest build not officially released, but I never cared to go try it out. The thing that annoys me most, however, is that for some reason I can't really use IE anymore with it. If I type something in the address bar of IE, Chrome opens and goes to the link instead :/ It seems that is just me though, as I NEVER found anyone complaining about this on the Internet. Basically, if there's some site that doesn't work with Chrome, I have to navigate only with links, without typing any address... even bookmarks won't work. So my home page is google, so I make the right search and go to the site I need to go that way lol

IT WORKS NOW Sketter will be testing what I've done in a few minutes... I'll see if it fixes the memory problem. I put a file in the downloads for the latest test version http://www.ssforum.net/index.php?autocom=d...s&showcat=1 I'll try to keep it updated as I make minor changes between releases. You can subscribe to it if you really want to stay up-to-date or if you want to give feedback.

Note to self: Apparently everytime the file is updated, it has to be re-approved... If anyone ever notices that the file is not there or something (or perhaps it stays there, just without the unapproved changes? That's more likely, actually), tell me, it might be because I forgot to approve it :/

Check out the new Downloads system... I just put the DCME file on there. Now we'll be able to see the number of downloads and such. Also, you can SUBSCRIBE to the file and you will receive notifications when the file is updated; cause we can update the file instead of posting another one. It keeps the older versions available, however.

Why is it more complicated to get a bitmap working with 2 colors than with 16millions of them... GRRRR I need to get this working to fix the huge memory usage of ASSS regions. It would basically be divided by 24 Also, I might have to make it display only one region at a time... which can be a good thing when you have 10 regions on top of one another anyway; it becomes a big grey mess. But if I can make it work like I want, I'll probably keep all the regions shown, but I'll show the selected region on top of the others, with its full color... So far... I managed to -create the monochrome bitmap in memory... -make weird things to be able to store the color palette (of 2 colors, yay) ... It did this weird thing... When I use GetDIBits, which gathers the bitmap data itself so I can save it to a file or something, it fills the color palette in the header... cool... but at the same time, it resets the 'number of colors' entry in that same header... That's just really weird :/ Had to save that number before, GetDIBits, then store the palette colors one by one... bleh. -It doesn't 'fail' when attempting to draw on the bitmap... But still nothing shows up EDIT: had a flash just as I wrote that last sentence, and I got it to draw something, YAY! Now I have to be able to make it the color I want It's getting late... actually it's been late for several hours already... It's so late that it's actually very soon too. Some people get up at this time of the day.. hmm... it's 4am lol. Oh well... holidays ...

That's also because most parents buy their kids a xbox or whatever so they can leave them in front of the TV, and they don't even need to educate them or have any kind of activity with them. It's the easy solution for a lot of parents...

Video games and heavy metal are the source of all evil in the world. I know it's true because I read it in some articles written by great reporters who know a lot about video games and heavy metal. I'm even surprised these reporters didn't go on a killing spree yet, with all those bad influences...

I have to agree with the guy on this... Hackers find vulnerabilities in IE because they search for it. There would be no use to search vulnerabilities in a browser used by only 10 or 20% of the population. Plus, these people are usually a bit more "skilled" with computers so they're more likely to have an antivirus and not divulge too many information... It's just like people who say Windows sucks because of all the viruses...

We programmed this little robot in our microelectronics class... It uses a 68HCS12 Motorola microcontroller, and it's programmed in assembly. It has 3 sensors on the front, and it basically just avoids obstacles. It uses fuzzy logic to determine the direction, using the sensors as inputs. Navigating... --Click here to view--53RsWAAQYN8http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53RsWAAQYN8 The trap --Click here to view--QOLdgZTDCFUhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOLdgZTDCFU Navigating again --Click here to view--8h3mj7F4VVIhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8h3mj7F4VVI The teacher says something in the beginning of the first one, something along the lines of "This is probably the best one I've seen in all those years..." Most other teams had nervous robots, or they kept hitting stuff... The particularity of our robot is that on top of the fuzzy logic, we used a 'proximity factor' to slow down the robot when it was closer to obstacles. But it slows down both motors at the same time, so the direction is still only controlled by fuzzy logic, which was a requirement.
