I'm about 98% sure that's the cause because the same thing happened with Mupen 64k. Mupen 64k would give me an error about msvcr71.dll and that file is also in the Xiah directory. A little , I know. BUT, it doesn't explain why it would prevent Continuum from running. Where are our programmers at? Someone should be able to come up with a reason as to why this sort of thing happens!
Well, when I exit THIS game and try to run Continuum, it does the 100% CPU usage thingy and I have to reboot. However, if I run Continuum before I run Xiah, everything is fine.
Jake Brown> Woohooo! I did the 720! -Smash- Jake Brown> Where am I? Did I land the 720? Gives you a good idea of how hard he hit. He literally forgot what happened in a matter of seconds. On a side note, Ricky Carmichael still dominates the Supercross.

No, when he pushes enter to enter the zone, the program crashes. It could be ANYTHING. The best thing you could try, other than reformatting, is to try and close some other programs before you use Continuum.
By crashes, what exactly do you mean? If you are running the game using Run As, or maybe even a limited user account, you can't download levels, hence the crash. It would give you some sort of "the file cannot be created" error message.
