  1. Do you realise that you've just ruled out about 95% of this so-called community?
  2. How much are you interested in games even?
  3. Trademark != Copyright
  4. What's wrong with death? It brings much needed peace to tormented souls. http://animatedtv.about.com/library/graphics/sp106death_1.jpg
  5. Freakmonger: Actually, I had discontinued Gravitron (stupid forum admin banned my other name) and have infact quit for the most part (I visit league on occasion to have a prac or duel). Kirk: 1. For an example, I do recall a hearsay (perhaps by Ekted? uncertain) of Priit claiming he could've easily made continuum to support unlimited ships but that would requite redoing of the server and that he's not going to bother with that and that it wasn't required for the current gameplay (zones). So yes, leaving things to Priit -- nothing will get done on subject of furthering the game. Currently, the most development done on that front been from grelminar (!@#$%^&*S), CatID (mervbot/SS clone client), snruuub (linux client) and Bak (continuum clone client). 2. I do believe that SubGame (and definitely INF's daemon) does authenticate the client on some level (forces an update on a faulty checksum?), be there really a need for a third party to preform this? After all, the lion part of the cheater base is users who been handed down cheats. SS had fairly a low amount of programmers throughout the years and a mere three or so, at most, of them actually went about to crack the game and develop cheats for it on their own. The protection of client memory...well, this be a whole another issue (as said, some things must be authenticated by server, if not initially then (as INF does) retroactively).
  6. Well, seems I'm going to have some entertainment here. 1. Sage386 made Twister not out of curiosity; he was a member of the UCF something such as SS was nigh zero on his curiosity meter. Twister was created as a response to the cheating-by-power-abuse (to this day) staff of Extreme Games; he decided merely to show them how it's being done and return in kind of same coin. His mistake has been to grant access to several of his friends who then continued to spread it further. He later on helped SSC to patch it and provided twister-proof client/server patches. 2. As one who been playing for quite long I also happened to be present in many zones whence Twister stroke, including EG – the first to have been hit. I did not necessarily notice any population drops and in all fact the zones have persevered. What I did saw was a lack of proper banning system (nowadays present -- BanG) as well as high incompetence of sysops to make proper use of IP-banning (they didn't know how – entirely oblivious to the machinations of SubSpace's game server) and the permission list (some zones, EG included, adopted this method later). 3. However, I have observed many zones, which lasted or sprung-up post-Twister, fail due to reasons such as their staff being abusive, fail to cater to the population, degrade the zone's quality, stagnation, et cetera. Contradiction: Also: Their. (x4) Entirely. Than. There's. Different. On a side note, design-wise, SS be inherently flawed. Were someone to indeed posses the time and will to work on such a project, best be to discard the source and redo all (client and server) from scratch with a more proper approach to gameplay in mind. This would also fix any adaptations/compatibility issues.
  7. I'm speaking software wise, S!@#$%^&*. And no, Twister did not almost kill SubSpace. SubSpace is dead due to various factors and Twister isn't necessarily one of them. Twister never really was that much of a problem; naturally the council, spearheaded by their office of PR/public adressing/explanation -- MikeTheNose & BDVine (two big dumb newbies), saw it as a chance to grab exclusive unchallenged power (oldest trick in the book, security & terrorism...sounds familiar, USA?) and exploited it, playing on everyone's fears and blowing it way out of proportions.
  8. I can. I did. I do. I would. Sage386 has cracked continuum long ago and upgraded twister to work with it. People are cheating with continuum via other means, there are plenty of ways. Lag itself creates an ugly imbalance in the gameplay (and this client be less effective than VIE in handling the lag). CE, FYI, is an ancient program which managed to evolve over time since the days of DOS and keep up to date with contemporary times...what's all the rokus about? SubSpace could transfer to a more server authora!@#$%^&*ive model, ala Infantry; however, it may never function being completely server authora!@#$%^&*ive as it requires twitch-movement and immediate reaction of the client, the latency will render 95% of the population incapacitated. MMOG(/RPG)s make for a poor comparison, as their worlds mainly based upon the placement of AI !@#$%^&*ets for the player to combat and are designed to revolve the RTS model engine. While INF may perform RTS-oriented gameplay, SubSpace be not a RTS in any way or form and full server-side running of the game will render it defunct. The reason people will cheat in SubSpace be simple: there be nothing to lose and playing is free. Can make the banning more difficult to cir!@#$%^&*vent, can place more watchful eyes. But in the end, the drive to cheat will conquer some reckless punks. On the other hand, there are also in the end far less cheaters than they make it out to appear to be. All in all, the fear of the mega-death cheating be irrational nor can it not be countered with proper tools. There. Repeat. Infantry is superior to SubSpace.
  9. SubSpace + 3D = null pointer. You won't end up with anything different than any other space simulator, it just won't be SubSpace. But feel free to call it a 3D continuum. I blame all those dumb masses of newbs zones on continuum anyway. SubSpace was VIE, with SVS, league and skill. This isn't it. As far as ideas, stop wasting your time trying to make a 3D SubSpace (notion set to fail from the get-go) and design your very own game. Besides that, anything less than what Infantry is capable of is going to be a mockery of a game engine.
  10. I would say to dismiss with the council and start purging zone staff, but that's just me. I would say to round up all politicians and have them shot, but that's just me. So I say nothing and go play another game, and am quite happy, but that's just me. And pracs are always there for me to occasionally jump onto and ice some people, but that's just me.
  11. Swift, eh? I wonder if PayPal allows me to donate a Scorpion to his birthday... http://forums.minegoboom.com -> less populated with reASSS, less populated at all, and 99.9% censorship-free. Just aim for the trash talk and post ahead.
  12. Whence the Atom Bomb was being developed, it was feared that the chain reaction will continue infinitely and that the bomb will ignite the entire Earth...it did not.
  13. They care...to conserve their power. SubSpace is dead. Now you have Continuum. And who plays Infantry on Sony? FreeINF is the (new wave) way. I've quit this game altogether, found something much better.
  14. Quit hogging all the age fame, Alex. Scootch! You're not the only ancient goat around. Besides, you were only around 35-40 in that picture, you're much older now.
  15. Seems that the beginning of it was cut out, though, Ophie. In addition, since hosts and the subject of funneling money onto the game was put on: Seems that, oh-so-many of, you have all quickly forgotten about Xalimar and Yarekim's contribution. And needless to say, the by now forgotten by newbies, ancient RiSC network which was paid for, in quite a long duration, by NfoCipher who was just a regular bloke and no rockafeller.
  16. If you want to benchmark your PC as a high ender, two games come to mind: 1. One Must Fall BattleGrounds: enable all options and host locally a skirmish with as many bots as you can, most machines crumble to dust. 2. Vanguard|Saga Of Heros: hardly optimized and choke full of graphic !@#$%^&*ets, effects and otherwise, turn everything to full and you're guaranteed that it'll make even the most powerful box whimper in pain.
  17. The monopoly claim is quite ridiculous...SSC has a monopoly over SS, Priit has a monopoly over SSC (he hosts it!), Alex has a monopoly over BanG/Administration, Trench/EG has a monopoly over sucky newbies... Years ago, VIE zones consolidated onto one as well...I don't see any problem in having three newbie super settings zones consolidate onto one zone; if anything, and if done correctly, it should prove quite beneficial (to the zone/its players). And the abuse/zone killing claims brought by SVS - I shall disregard them; in part since as said I don't know the subject's involvement and details and in part, I believe I'll be excused for saying, due to quite the questionability of source given the who person who uttered them be. I also fail to see how/since when anyone can talk SSC hosts from discarding zones they host by an outside element or how/since when anyone has a say on a matter of a host decided to discontinue hosting a zone. In regards to players choosing the SS Council members...I don't see how a popularity contest, whereas some buffoon brings all his friends (read: blind zealot followers and otherwise !@#$%^&* licking posse) to vote him up, would be any different than the head-giving/abusive/backwashing system we currently have, which has brought about pricks we have today. In regards to players paying for the server...there have been quite a few zones whereas the sysop accepted donations, as well as abused them to their own personal gain and the players never seen anything in return and are by majority being !@#$%^&*ted upon by the Sysop. I do know that hosts pay a lot of money (and by the by, when exactly has SVS ever paid for hosting bills? even though he would tell anyone who listens about how financially well doing he is) and should be thanked instead of spat upon for their generosity. All in all, everyone involved over the years has shown me nothing short of complete ego, selfish agendas and utter inap!@#$%^&*ude to be in an official responsible position of any capacity which involves public service as well as many cases of sheer incompetence. Professionals you are not but a teenager immature mor!@#$%^&*. And I'm glad I quit the game and all this political BS. Have fun in your sandbox, children, you've earned your cookie for the entertainment provided.
  18. Kind of old' date=' but here you go (it's Alex/GS, not me, d'uh...). [img']http://www.theventer.com/Temp/ghostship.jpg[/img]
  19. I weigh 55-56kgs, you've failed. Try again Syrus. Roll for initiative.
  20. Just say lol.
  21. Tell you what, while I scratch my humangoose nose you can blow my cir!@#$%^&*cized penis. Suck it blue. If you want hate, you'll have to do better than just being a re!@#$%^&*. This place is crawling with reASSS, I'm not impressed.
  22. ROFL McPoffle. Is he even complaining about SS mods or about WoW mods?
  23. And that's a bad thing? More newb influx for the rest of zones.
  24. Nice try re!@#$%^&*, but we all know it's your father. GJ lazy fatso yankees. Eat more McCraplands. I'm probably thinner than most of you. And I only weigh 55 kgs. Suck it, blue.
  25. I saw a mudcrab.
