  1. Sadly, as always, I predicted correctly. The population count on the client is so low now it is truly tear-jerking.
  2. I ran the client today to check general pings. Barely 400 people online. I guess it is finally approaching that point. I doubt any of those who once vouched for "Sites of the Final Call" have stuck around or remember their promise. I barely even recall any of their handles anymore. So for them, in spirit represented, I now stand. It has been a marvelous journey. It has lasted well over a decade. A couple, even...almost. Even though I have been gone for the majority of it past 2005, I never forgot the cradle. I've been playing SubSpace for many years. I remember those years, foggily and, fondly...mostly. I have met many interesting people from all around the globe...and then killed them. Or got killed by them. I have played many different zones, many different game types. I have learned many things. Now it is old and dying. And in several dozen years so shall I. It has been a good life. A final toast, to a great adventure; and a final thanks to those many who made it possible. To forgotten people. To fallen bretheren. To lost friends. Farewell. See you on the flip-side! - G-Man/Gravitron/whatever
  3. In the slight chance that anyone is keeping tabs or gives a hoot about the original creators, Rod moved from EVP of The Sims to CEO of Linden Lab (Second Life) and took Jeff alongside for the ride. Best wishes.
  4. It's time for them glasses, Doc.
  5. Ops, it's x2 RAM sticks so it's 8GB. Forgot to mention. Anyway, closed the deal, new rig should be here in a week or two.

  7. Well, I was wrong. It seems that I am going for top of the line. Funny, prices seem a lot cheaper for top of the line than they seemed to be 5-10 years ago. Back then a top of the line PC could've easily breached $4k even. Hell, my current system had a price tag of like $1k-1.5k or so and it was barely middle ground. Now it seems you can get a fairly powerful system for $1-2k easily. Go rapid economic depression and even more rapidly technological advancements? Of course, the Israeli Shekel back then was like 4 per $1 US and now it's only 3.5 after the great second stock market crash, so there's also that... So it seems I'm going to wrap up a nice $3k package that'll bomb the subs out of the water in whatever game I'm playing. Nothing like being a subject of envy, eh? Well, I suppose that after years of playing on sub-systems it's about time I'll play high in the clouds with decent FPS and all the GFX options turned on to the maximum.
  8. You forget that I live in Israel. Room temperatures here can go 30'c in the summer. And HDs that don't get sufficiently cooled and stabilized at 35-40 tend to develop defects much faster. Not to mention the GPU might piss itself. I might grab another WD1001FALS and RAID it with my current for improved performances.
  9. I think I'll go with i7-2600k and GTX570. Problem is where I stuff all the cooling in that tiny tower. Damn thing will probably melt itself down on the first time I press the button to turn the power on.
  10. Hey there, At current I run on a core 2 duo E8400 wolfdale with a dinosaur of a geforce 6600 gt, which may about to expire, on a DFI INF P35 MoBo. ANCIENT STUFF. I've somewhat lost track of the hardware advancements in the last year or two. I'm looking to get a complete new rig, somewhere around $1-3k price point. Ideally, I want to get a combo with a lot of oomph, I aim at Intel/Nvidia combo (don't lecture me please, I know, I know...) that can house-break Derek's battlecruiser 3000AD and possibly bring Crysis to cry like a wimp as well (or Vanguard:SOH's beta even, to those of you who were unfortunate to remember). In a nut shell, not the top of the line most high-end, but definitely close to state-of-the-art that can roar like a beast and deliver. So any mobo/processor/vid/cooler/whatever combo recommendations (no OCing please, I'm a wuss) would be welcomed. Thanks!
  11. Ops, my bad, yes Silent Dragon. Sybris Dragon was the guy who ran the Nihilius Syndicate guild. He might not have made the original settings, but he had the zone and his map was being used forever since. And yes again, I was thinking of Turf, durr. Well, at this age I'm grateful to just wake up in the morning.
  12. VIE - Virgin Interactive Entertainment SSU/SSCU - SubSpace/SS Central Europe SSE/SSCE - East (US) SSW/SSCW - West (US) SSC/SSCC - Center (US) SSX/SSCX - Xalimar/Exodus (the ISP xalimar hosted it on, being a net admin there) RiSC - Hacker group/ring, dimwits (or whatever mr. David "Nefocipher" Bunt had in mind) iNET - iNET/Sonera (finnish ISP) USD/WLI - United States Dallas/...not a clue, Gemini Dream said his love interest Lioness conceived it T3 - MecBot hosted on a T3 line SSFS - I forgot
  13. Oh, sweet, an authentic "I shot someone in my line of duty" blood-spills-covered police calling card! Way to go BD, this stuff worths hundreds on E-Bay.
  14. I think this is about the most awesome thing EA has ever done. Savor this moment, it will not repeat.
  15. The original creator of Trench Wars (not to be confused with VIE's Trench) was Sybris Dragon. He quit SS eons ago due to the so many political power plays and shit that were flying/going around, which is why Baudchaser quit as well. I've always known Dock to be a nice and honest person, at least in our conversations, this is actually quite the surprise for me. Some newbs think that SubSpace as a whole was by his inception, so sure, why the hell not...
  16. I don't think this ant even deserves recognition as to be posted about. This has been a waste of my time. Polix, kindly adjust your thread's title, the topic is misleading. I am not entertained at all.
  17. I first ate Domino's over a decade ago or so, when they first appeared (in Israel, at least). The price was cheap and good, the pizza plate's size was rather large; we were ordering for the family at Fridays to watch the evening movie (each week a new movie special at 9 PM). Shortly after they've become a huge hit and success, like urine, went to their head. The plate dish grew smaller (the medium we used to order they now call large and the so-called XXL could barely be considered the large of old), the price went higher...and we stopped ordering. I haven't had their pizza ever since. Eventually, the branch from which we ordered was also shutdown, which made me smirk. I did have Pizza, though. Still, theirs was second best I've eaten in my life (Prego's come first). However, since they lost me as a customer they're pretty much burnt over for me, I could care less for their new taste. I've long ceased consuming pizza on a regular basis, anyway, so it makes little difference to me even if they had prices cuts (and from what I see, Pizza prices only go up so I don't give a flying fuck).
  18. Possum is part of a racing team and maintains the car.
  19. Bottom line is that the "SSC" in the zone name is just A PART OF THE ZONE NAME and, unless Priit has changed that, means JACK SHIT to being able to join the central biller and you need to have "SSC" in your zone's name like you'd need sulfuric acid in the air to be able to draw breath. This has been my point, it has not changed. Your inane drivel has neither changed nor countered it. And your attempt to associate it to the directory server is yet "the" common stupidity of big fat nose guy who is on the council in the first place just because he rubbed someone else the right way and is otherwise lacking any proper functionality within SubSpace to answer the early requirements of being on the council or to be a BillingOp at that. At least BDVine was Sonera's liason once Baudchaser ceased activity so you could excuse that inane propaganda drivel spreading hobgoblin's presence. I've been watching you two post utter reality-and-fact-removed bullshit since the SSHQ days on the Matt Wright free forum script.
  20. Wouldn't limit the names for anyone with a webhost. I'd set a limit of 10 per (shared) IP.
  21. IIRC the 10 chat restriction was put in place by Priit under reasons of security or something the such.
  22. Ha, nope. hint: [Directory] NamePassword= [Directory] IP=ssdir.vie.com Description= NamePassword=titanrebel Port=4991 The only thing that does is provides a password to the directory server for it to match against its own password and acknowledge your zone as valid and include it in its listing it or otherwise reject it. Unless Priit has changed that in his DirServ it has nothing to do at all with the zone's name. And I seem to recall non-SSC zones getting billing access (T3 is the obvious example). So kindly explain what point were you driving to, because as it stands it makes no sense at all. SSC is merely something born out of the council. There's a long history of network names that had no relevance to it at all. IMHO, using "SS" in the server name/network name while the game itself is called SubSpace, is rather redundant (if not retarded). If anything, I'd call it CS for Central Server or CSS for Central SubSpace Server. At least the naming scheme will be somewhat more straightforward and functional. SubSpace Central could be as much replaced with SubSpaceHQ or SSN (which was used once before, I believe) - SubSpace Network, it's just a titular noun that'd fit sooner a website than a daemon / explain the function that it serves. Infact as it stands history had plenty of servers/network names with nothing at all to do with SSC and yet hosted main (original VIE/original concept/popular) SubSpace zones. VIE being the original Virgin servers, iNET - Sonera ISP via Baudchaser which took hold of the main biller, SSX - Exodus/C&W via Xalimar & Yarekim, RiSC - self owned via Nefocipher, T3 - whatever ISP Mecbot worked for, WLI/USD self owned via Gemini Dream and some more such as SFSS, so on and forth. Heck, there was that whole thing when Alex (Ghost Ship) managed to entangle Verizon to host and they backed out after a month or few, which caused Pro League to have those odd initials infront of it.
  23. Why SSC# to begin with? RiSC WLI USD Many great ones.
  24. I voted $0, but it forces you to pick an option on both dumb polls and the other one hasn't such an option.
