    New MAP thread

Still seems rather pointless. In regards to metroid, I can't think of a single hidden area that was empty -- there was always a reason to go there. With HS, the extra space is not only boring, but there would be nothing to gain by going out there (short of a cash or item prize).
  2. Until I decide to upload a more recent one... http://hybrid.shanky.com/photo/1274618365_l.jpg Hey dot, how's Sim City 4 treating you?

    New MAP thread

Reminds me of exploiting various bugs in metroid and smb to get into areas that don't technically exist -- they were neat because they weren't supposed to be there. I think it would lose it's charm if you knew it was by design (and could see it by sitting in spec and zooming around).

Something I consider more important that deciding on tiles themselves, is deciding on a tileset layout. Once you have that defined, you can swap out the tiles any time you want without having to retile entire maps. If those involved with the map agree with this and are willing to wait, I can throw together something tomorrow after class.

    New MAP thread

Out of all the tilesets, I'd say the one we're using is the best. B looks like crap; far below what I'd expect from EG (as I've seen some very nice tilesets come out of there). C is easy to reproduce with a texture fill and some simple beveling in photoshop, and could probably look nicer as well. D seems to lack variety. It looks nice, but I wouldn't want the entire map (or even an entire base) to be made with pipes. As far as the map goes, It's rather hard to say without playing it, but I'm not entirely sure I'd like it. -Some of the bases look like they'd be really cramped. -Seems like there is a great deal of wasted space outside of center -- specifically in 2 and 7, where the long corridors will be largely untouched and only used by flankers to har!@#$%^&* incoming teams. -Soccer seems like an alternative to flagging which could be a good (or bad) thing, but I don't understand how it would be implemented. -The stores appear to be off the map in a cluster, which leads me to believe that there will be warp gates to them. While this would help stop safe laming in general, I think it would only amplify it unless some measure were taken to prevent it. For example: it would be easier for someone to sit outside the gate and lob bombs and such, then run into the shop when in danger. With the safe setup now, you at least have the chance to repel them out or otherwise team them. That's all I've got. Again, it's hard to give you more concrete feedback without actually using the map, but those are the issues I can see this map having.

And the willingness to spend the money each time someone tries to win in HT.
  7. Blame the inferior, outdated biller which will never get replaced or updated. The method it uses for resetting names is basically: Usage > 1hour = NEVER RESET
  8. Peh. Using an ancient term like "hacking" to describe what any child capable of using a computer can do is laughable. I'm willing to bet you don't even have the slightest clue how the tool you're using works.
  9. Cognitive dissonance is great, isn't it?
  10. Peh. $500 for a Subspace name? Interested in "Cerium"?
  11. I refuse to acknowledge using CE and clicking a few buttons as "hacking."
  12. Does it really matter all that much? At most, it means someone will fire two or three shots in quick succession per life -- which, considering the cost of a tacnuke -- leaves the shooter with literally no energy to defend. The only people who will really utilize this are Aoi and the other !@#$%^&*es on GW who like to safe lame. I agree with it's exploiting a bug, but it's more or less using a portal offensively rather than defensively. It's not unlimited use, and it doesn't grant godlike powers. I'm willing to bet that more often than not, it'll end up getting the shooter killed. Also: Afro, it's generally a bad idea to post an exploit in a place where the general public will see it before the people you're trying to contact. Further, you posted instructions on how to go about exploiting the very bug you're complaining about which is only going to give more people the ability to perform it. Not a smart decision.
  13. Do you people not remember why levi mobility was reduced in the first place? Also, the glitch you speak of only works once or twice per life (unless other cheating is occurring).

There are hacks which, in theory, could be used to eliminate this behavior. At the moment, however, they are either untested or have been found to be non-functional by sources I don't personally find to be reliable. The problem with this feature is two fold: Not only is there a strong possibility that the method I've suggested won't work, but there's an even stronger possibility that this feature won't be replacing AD even if it did work. That's not to say it won't become it's own item, but from what I've gathered in conversation with Doc... AD is relatively safe.

Actually, it seems like it would be a better fit as a replacement for AD, as this would allow AD to be justified in giving back items.
  16. I am by no means affirming or dissenting anyone's actions here, but I'm getting real sick of seeing a few things: (1) No amount of work volunteered by someone has to be rewarded. !@#$%^&*, this is probably the first zone where doing work as a non-staffer even gets a reward. That said, I appreciate the work Quigy and others have done, but said work does not give them carte blanche to ban/abuse as they see fit. To reiterate: It's great that people are willing to do work that a vast majority can't/won't do, but they shouldn't expect e-glory for it. (2) Trying to use any of the previous programs as a precedent is beyond stupid. Auto-cloak !@#$%^&*ists a player by giving them superhuman reaction speed -- something no other player can have without also using such a program. Whether or not it actually proves helpful in this specific case is irrelevant; it's a potential advantage not available to most of the population. Personally, I find auto-cloak to be completely useless. With a good keyboard setup and a quick hand, you can get !@#$%^&* near the same effect and not look like a !@#$%^&*in beacon every time you use your guns. However, as it should already be clear, I am not the authority on the subject -- I'm merely stating my opinion.

Perhaps this item is the balance on AD that we've been looking for?

Well, a portal doesn't move, where this constantly updates. As long as both still follow warping rules, a portal is still slightly better as you always know exactly where the destination is.

You've got it backwards, TC. It's possible to do the idea where you stop all other ships/weapons/etc. for a bit of time, but as brain said: it would require sending at least two settings packets (1 for everyone to stop, and n for the players who aren't stopped). The flag timer, on the other hand, is handled completely by the client so the server can only reset the timer rather than stopping it or adding to it.
  21. @TT: I would likely handle it exactly how I did here. He brought it up, not me. I simply haven't dropped it. @S!@#$%^&*: Vengeance on Chambahs? Beyond this issue, I've no problems with him. But yes, I am extremely anal about !@#$%^&* like this. I suppose it's one of those things that his home a bit more once it's happened to you a few times. @X: Unfortunately for you, I don't care what you think.
  22. He meant in real life -- and trust me, I would. Especially when it comes to !@#$%^&* like this. I really hate thieves.
  23. Not entirely accurate, but close enough. Thank you, sweetie.
  24. You implied that you did work that you didn't. You've never clarified until this thread, and probably only because I publicly called you out on being a thief. Are you blind or re!@#$%^&*ed? The ASSS modules Smong made. Wow. You sure picked the wrong guy to say that to... Full log can be seen here: http://www.cericlabs.com/cslp/new/frontend.php, but some key points are: Line Type Msg 1 CC 5:Chambahs> me and smong might trash UT <--- LOL 5 CC 5:Chambahs> he doesnt have time anymore, and i cant run an ASSS zone by myself 38 CC 5:D1st0rt> if you guys want to give it to someone 39 CC 5:D1st0rt> instead of junking it 40 CC 5:Chambahs> im too stubborn to just give away my hard work <--- WTF #1 41 CC 5:D1st0rt> i can see that it doesnt fall into the wrong hands 42 CC 5:D1st0rt> but still retains usability 67 CC 5:Chambahs> listen cerium 70 CC 5:Chambahs> nobody can think of what i thought of <--- WTF #2 73 CC 5:Chambahs> its so unique, nobody thought of it 74 CC 5:Cerium> that is so !@#$%^&*ing ignorant, im putting you on ignore.txt for life. 1) I never asked for the source. 2) If I wanted it that badly, I would have asked Smong directly as he isn't a paranoid toolbox like you are. You've no idea how easy you are to read, do you?
  25. I don't know everything about your zone, but I know you and what you're capable of. I've never once used anything I've made as justification for my at!@#$%^&*ude. I just !@#$%^&*ing hate thieves. Right. Because that !@#$%^&*goty eLabel you had would have been the root of some Deathplus style eDrama had he done so. Stop trying to be a martyr. If someone donates to your zone, then great. But when you go around claiming that you're the one who did the work, that's where I have a problem. History lesson for those of you who don't know: This all started because you were bragging on a developer chat about how unique your zone is and no one could ever copy what you've done. On top of that, you were also babbling about how you were going to scrap all of smong's work simply because you'd rather see it go to waste then let some "newbie copy your work". And that is where my problem with you lies, "bud". Aww, did someone's eFeelings get hurt because I called them out? Don't do stupid !@#$%^&* and I won't type mean words to you over the internets. In the sports world, they call this an "over-extension". Some of them: A fair amount of work. You: Nothing.
