  2. Edit: I've tried to get ahold of the bot host in vain.. I'll upload Control in pub tomorrow and host the bot as long as I can, hopefully the host will have received the bot and loaded it..
  3. Two teams battle to control the two bases. Control your territory while attempting to take over your adversary's Objective The objective is to control your base by claiming the flags that are placed in the different flag rooms. There are two bases, one in the North and one in the South. The bases have 10 flags each, from which your team will receive 1 possession point per second for every flag that you hold. The team with most points when the time is up wins. Ships Warbird - Fighter / Close range bomber The all-round ship, suitable for most types of battles. Javelin - Fighter The ultimate fighter, specialized in close combat. Spider - Ambush craft The cloak / stealth ambush ship with the unique ability to port and release burst. Specialized in narrow areas where the burst are most efficient. Leviathan - Long range bomber The heavy artillery unit. Its rapid L3 bombs makes this the best ship for distant targets. Terrier - Miner / Close range bomber The three repellers and unique ability to lay mines makes this a very effective defense unit. Weasel - Fighter The alternative close combat fighter. Lancaster - Medium range bomber With its bombs that can bounce up to 4 times, this ship has a wide bomb range in the bases. Shark - Fighter / Close range bomber The furtive fighter with a wide multifire spread, making it powerful from a certain distance in open areas.

4 times out of 5 I've been able to get at least 8 people in the zone, at most 19 one time. It's not really that hard, especially for 17th since we have a lot of exiled players in other zones. I don't know what you mean by "dominate". I won't deny that I pointed out what I thought you guys were doing wrong whenever I got the chance, and after awhile I suppose I stopped giving constructive criticism, and that's not so strange really. Not that you would've taken it any different. I still stand by what I've said and no one can have a valid argument against it since it hasn't been put in effect yet. You may call me a slow one-man-dev-team though, that'd be true. Control will be up in pub this weekend, !@#$%^&*uming I can get in touch with the person who said they'd host the bot. This gameplay has been tested for a long time now. In the end it's a matter of opinion. The majority of people who've tested it have liked it so we'll see how it goes. Also, a 2v2 League with a flexible match schedule is in the planning stages.

I'll let you say what you want, it doesn't affect me. All I can say is that if you enter 17th you can see that I haven't touched pub, which means I haven't executed our idea yet. I decided last week to upload the new map in pub this week. Another thing you should know before you judge is that most (a few weeks ago I could've said everytime) of the times I advertise for an event in 17th, we get them going. One time not so long ago we played events for about 2 hours, with at least 8 people. Just yesterday we played some SBL > But by using your logic, it's like telling a high jump athlete that he can't jump over the bar, and while he's gaining speed before he even jumped say "I told you so". We'll see how it goes. I have no reason to believe that the new pub will fail, for 2 main reasons; 1) Most people who've checked it out like it and said they couldn't wait to play it "for real" 2) How easy it is to get people playing in the zone, specially since there's so many ex-17th players scattered in SubSpace.. you just gotta know them > 5 months? Try 5 years =P I've noticed it since years ago. The first time I noticed it was literally 5 years ago in 2002. It usually just goes away after awhile.

I don't think being SMod+ has anything to do with it as I've seen it happen many times to regular players.

It's actually a bug or something that says I'm online.. think it got something to do with the billing server.. it's been like this for a week now. I've seen it before many times so it's nothing new >;P When you type ?find Delic in 17th and I'm not there, it shows "Delic is in SSCU 17th Parallel" as if you're sending ?find from another zone >;X

lol I changed the left / right part of the map. Removed the flag rooms furthest away and connected the upper / lower part (of left / right) with the middle tunnel.

DEAR DIARY. We had a lot of fun playing this today, finally got a good testing session, reached 6vs6, fun as !@#$%^&*. Of course it'll be more fun when people learn how to play >;P To rep and drop bricks when other team is full of bombers, to flag, etc. Then we played a *REAL* rumble with 4 teams, then a 5vs5 SBL! WoO. In total we had 15 players online playing for awhile >;D All this just from asking a couple of buddies to come over and play a bit. My point? Reviving 17th won't be too hard.

Made a simple lil' event quick. I'd call it like a mixture of Speedflag and Flagcap. Small circle shaped flag rooms that are connected by tubes. The flag rooms serve as a type of mark to see how much territory your team controls. I haven't decided any rules yet but feel free to check it out. It's simple but as usual the team with best coordination of different ships and teamwork will win the game >
  15. Okay. Well unfortunately all we really need help with right now is bots.
  16. Well, I don't see this thread going no where. Time for my first lock! (Be proud Xterr). We're still in the process of reviving SSCU 17th Parallel. Do look forward to new developments, I will post about them when they're ready to be played > Besides the new pub we're also working on some events we think you will enjoy >
  17. Failure? Heheh, just wait and see what we have in store for 17th > The only thing I've failed at so far is getting everything ready fast. If it fails after it's put in effect then you can talk. Until then your opinion has no valid point.

  19. Cubs, I have no doubt that they had the best intentions for the zone and gave their best. The zone got semi-active during their time here. They did however fail to keep 17th semi-active. That's what I said - not with the intention to spite them, but to explain why I might do things differently. You can't say that something didn't go wrong because that's like saying 17th right now is how they intended it to be. If they didn't fail then I wouldn't be here, they would still be running the place. If I do things the same way they did then wouldn't I be bound to fail as well? That was my only point with those sentences, which by the way weren't aimed at just them. And yeah, they hired a lot of other people that you did not include on that list. People I had never seen before.
  20. Heh, well to me that just shows how little you know about what you're talking about, although the obvious truth is that there usually aren't any people in the zone. Less talk more action? Okay then tell all those people to stop asking questions > More action? I repeat, I've been working on 17th basically everyday I've been online in one way or another. I haven't advertised the zone yet because I want to complete what we've been working on before I do. I did advertise it a couple of times to run a few tests - in which we got 13 and 19 people playing. It just goes to show that it's not impossible to get people to start playing again. "You did have people working actively with you. Maybe I'm more picky about who I choose to work with. I don't like working with complete strangers even though I've been forced to do it one time" AND THEN - " I've been lucky enough to receive some support from noriaki and a guy from TW that I don't even know." Actually the second quote came first and the first one second. But however you want to put it, I was referring to the person who modified TWCore for Control. I simply stated that I prefer to work with people I know are reliable even though I've had to get someone I don't know to help me with that bot. So I don't see how that's incongruous. And I didn't blame anyone for prematurely introducing any project. I was explaining why what I've been planning to do is taking some time. The staff list from when Emb was Head SysOp were only known people? I'd say half of them or more were completely unknown at the time they were hired. You will see results from what I've been doing, I can guarantee you that. I never denied that Emblazon and Cord got the zone to be active for awhile, but obviously they did something wrong, or missed something. I'm just trying to do something that will last rather than something that will get the zone to be alive for a month or two and then die again. From my point of view, 17th Parallel including the website is a very big mess that will take some time to fix. I've told you what I'm working on, I've told you why it's taking so long and I've told you why there usually aren't any people in 17th. So that'll be all for now. If you are confused about what I'm saying, maybe try to read it again before you reply, I'm sure you won't have much trouble understanding.
  21. pernille and noriaki are working with me. Vile and Ent are willing and I've been meaning to talk with Jim who's been active in DSB. It's too bad that those who are capable and have time to help out, simply lost interest. But I guess that's just the way things go. 17th has been dead multiple times in the past, and been brought back to life. Granted it hasn't been dead for this long before, but there's reasons for that and that still doesn't make the conditions very different from past times. I'm sick and tired of hearing people telling others to give up and move on time and time again. You gave up, you move on. Don't tell me what to do. I will keep working on the revival. You don't want to help me? That's fine, I didn't expect anyone to do that in the first place. But don't tell me to give up before I've even executed my plan. I've been lucky enough to receive some support from noriaki and a guy from TW that I don't even know and now pernille - and that is all, and that is the only reason why things are going so slow. Lack of progress? I'd say we've progressed a lot. I would just like to plan and complete things before I do anything rather than do as certain other SysOps who prefer to rush things which in the end proves to be a mistake. Emblazon, all you can criticize me for is not banning someone who used a bot to spawn into an arena with corrupted settings, causing the zone to constantly crash. In an arena owned by YOUR name, with a bot name YOU had the password to, with the bot matching YOUR MID and IP. That is all you can blame me for, because I haven't really done anything else because of the reasons mentioned, I want to prepare as many things as possible first. And you have my word that I will not ban you for expressing your opinion as you banned me for expressing mine - which you admitted was abuse of power. I could also go to other zones and try to bribe random players with a Staff position as you and Cord did, but I know that that would not help us in the long run. I will stick to working on what we've been working on before I launch it no matter how long it has to take. It's not like time is an issue. After the mistakes made by the past upper staff we don't really have anything to lose. I would rather re!@#$%^&*ure that we get everything right than launch an incomplete project. As I said before, I don't have a lot of people working with me. You did have people working actively with you. Maybe I'm more picky about who I choose to work with. I don't like working with complete strangers even though I've been forced to do it one time, but I prefer to take the safe route and hire people I know are capable and reliable. Caress was positive when I showed her what I had in mind for 17th some months back. Think what you like about her, but that's more than enough recognition I need. I called about 5 players I know from other zones over a couple of times. In a short period of time we got 13 people playing the first day and 19 the other day. A lot of people have said that they like what we've been doing and that they will play it once it's ready. I see many ex-17th players in other zones very often. Despite of having far from ideal working conditions, I still see a lot of possibilities which I intend to take advantage of. I can honestly tell you that I'll be surprised if I don't manage to get the least amount of people required to have a game going in pub every day - but I don't want to do that until we have completed what is in the works. And believe it or not but I am working on it everyday in one way or another. -Delic 17th Parallel Head SysOp 17th Parallel player since early '01 and counting. Oo-AERA-oO Epion Feroce

    Bots

Already got it from the creator. And noriaki will improve it. It took awfully long to get this first version of the bot done unfortunately, mainly because of the lack of communication between the TW coder and me. But hey now we got it and it's only a matter of time before I launch this new pub. I understand that some of you are impatient, but I really don't want to rush things, I don't want to launch this thing before I get everything right for the new players who will arrive when we start advertising. It has to be clear and presentable. At first I wanted to get a new website done as well before we launched the new pub, but that would take too long. Today I was told that the staff at Trench Wars would be willing to advertise our zone. That would definitely make things easier for us, but as I said, it has to be when the time is right. A first impression means a lot because if a player comes in and doesn't like what he sees, it's most likely that he won't come back no matter if we improve things. But honestly, now that noriaki has given in =P it won't take much longer before we get things started.

    Bots

Now I'm preparing that advertising campaign I was talking about. I need to finish a guideline / introduction of the new pub that I began writing.. The first version of the bot has just enough of what we need to have a proper game, but it won't be the last version. I've never seen a turf game that's ever been hosted this way before so I think it'll be kool. The thing that makes this turf game special is that it's not the amount of points that you get from the flags each bell that'll make you win, it's the amount of time you own the flags. And yeah it's been dead for quite some time now TiQ >;X
  24. The one I used to be able to get password for was made in '03. I have no problem getting the password for Makaveli which was made in '98. It won't send password for a name made in '01 which I KNOW I have set to my main e-mail address because I remember using ?setemail for it as I did with Makaveli. I also tested LP'ing a name I made a couple months ago and it worked fine. I'd really like to get a couple of names back..
