  1. The idea *is* to have teams win as soon as they get all the flags.
  2. Sorry I didn't make myself clear. This is not a discussion on how flagging is broken. It's a discussion on how to fix it.
  3. The devs and I have been talking about changing the flag game for a while, but there's a chance we might actually do it soon. My proposal is to: Disable neuting of flags. Any neuts would drop owned, and the flag game would be won 3 minutes after all flags are dropped on a team (it's 10 seconds now). This would also stop any quickwinning issues. Increase the base flag reward substantially. Something on the order of $5,000 and 10 exp. Remove the jackpot so there's less incentive to milk the flag game for hours. These should make flag games last between 10 and 20 minutes each. Arnk has suggested that with bountying, people will never bother to win flag games. They'll just hoard flags and rack up cash. I've got a couple of solutions, and want to know what you guys think about them: Try anyway. See if flag games get longer, or if they get significantly shorter. Remove bountying entirely. Money wouldn't be based on bounty at all. It would only be based on exp of the two players. Remove bountying only in bases. People would still make bounty rewards in the center sector. Insert idea here? Everything proposed above can be implemented very quickly. I'd rather not use a solution that requires a substantial module, as we already have plenty of stuff on our programming plate.

    Changes

You require enough money to purchase the specified amount before it tries to buy any. That's a good point that I didn't think about when writing it. I'll see if I can get that changed sometime over the next week or so.

    Changes

Done: We've increased jackpot growth rate by around 50%. Yay jackpots. We've slightly increased kill rewards. We've changed the ammo bounty reset to remove 50 bounty per buy (I highly suggest a good buy macro to avoid multiple removals). This is in contrast to a straight bounty reset. This should make bountying hard, but not impossible. For those that are curious, the original change was made to try to speed flag games up. The safety bounty remover is a little less mean. To-do in the near term: We're planning on raising sell prices to be closer to the original buy price (Though we'll probably leave the higher end items, like sigs, where they are). We've also got some more ammoless weapons in the development stages, for those that want to do without ammo entirely (though they won't be as efficient, of course). Lets also remember that : Greens give ammo You can view your ammo status at a glance with the new lvz ammo display. ?buy -c X will buy upto X, instead of exactly X.
  6. The old reload didn't reload in the same sense you're using. It simply reprized items you already owned. It had nothing to do with buying. You also had to pay for it. So the comparison doesn't hold at all. They ignored you because mods are powerless to make development changes. You can try to hammer home how right you are, but it doesn't change the fact that you were talking to the wrong people. And somehow, you think it's their fault. Making a command to do what you suggest is pretty difficult with the current setup. So difficult that we haven't bothered to try. We have, however, done many other things to alleviate the issue you're talking about. Greens now give you ammo. We're finalizing an ammo viewer so you don't have to go to ?shipstatus to see how you're doing on ammo. Another thing I've been planning is making a buy switch (like -c, maybe -t or -f) that tries to buy up to a certain amount, so you can just try to buy max, and it'll buy what it can. Here's a temporary suggestion: make your macro buy half of the max, and use it every time you spawn. That way you'll never have less than half ammo.

    SIT

I had some experience with these guys a few days ago. They hurt the situation more than they helped. I hope they realize they can't do any good with their current setup and dissolve themselves.
  8. Again, try reading. Current map editors don't give us enough flexibility. Not that they can't create regions. We use regions quite extensively for a lot of things. We just can't use them for everything yet.
  9. Ani, seriously, try reading posts.
  10. Rootbear already said: We also had an epilepsy inducing one that would flash black and white. It was quite painful to the eyes.
  11. We used to have flashbangs in the old system.
  12. A huge percentage came from the books of Timothy Zahn, my favorite author. I highly recommend his conqueror trilogy and The Icarus Hunt.
  13. Some does, most doesn't. The elvl doesn't give us enough flexibility in map editors.
  14. Staff can't abuse you while you're offline. It would take someone with database access, and everyone with that is far too lazy. The database has worked reasonably well for 3-4 years now, without anyone reporting this sort of error, so I'm inclined to think it's not that. Far, far more likely is that your password was compromised. Maybe someone could check the logs and see what you did while you were "offline", but I've been too busy these past few weeks.

Looks like he's been banned from the forums too.

Read the ssforum rules. Next time you do it, it's a forum wide ban for life, courtesy of the SSForum staff. We'd probably make it an in game hyperspace ban too, for the heck of it.

    Staff

We're not in such desperate need of staff members that we'll hire you when you ask asking on the forum without any sort of background or skill set. On a side note, I've always thought that if someone didn't put the time into typing "to" and instead put "2", is just wasting my time. Think about it as a job interview: No resume, no idea what job you're asking for, and you didn't even dress nicely.

I said he articulated himself well. Arnk was talking about his content, not how well he conveyed his meaning.

    changelog

Changed team sizes from 20 to 30. Changed brick time from 1600 to 2000. Note that all these changes are subject to change
  20. We reset every 4 months or so. We always have. We probably always will.
  21. If all you're looking for is ideas, you should check out the bot plugin sites too.
  22. You don't need a huge time investment to get a decent ship. Yeah, you need a lot of time to get the "best" ship, but skill is far more important. Money and exp have been an important part of the game for so long that I don't see them going anywhere any time soon. That's not to say we can't make it easier on casual players, but dropping our central theme probably isn't the way to do it.

There's no reason a mod has to move players from one freq to another. They're perfectly capable of doing it themselves. Even more so if they're "vets".
  24. Historically, resets boost population by about 20%.
