  1. If it makes you feel better, ASSS takes around 20 seconds to load the Hyperspace maps into memory each time a new arena is created.
  2. 68HC12 or 68HCS12? If it's the former, then wow that's old.

    Arnk & Lera

Arnk doesn't take credit for most of the things he does. The zone would be much worse off without him. He may be rude, but he's not usually wrong.
  4. Don't forget some kind of password. Don't want the admin from SSI Cool Dudez logging in as Trench Wars and mucking up their stats.
  5. I disagree with Jefferson on many things, but none of these quotes fall into those areas. Very nice quotes.
  6. It's on the to-do list, yes. If the teams *do* become unbalanced, they get much less money for winning.
  7. Split junk into http://www.ssforum.net/index.php?showtopic=22280
  8. Don't call it AS3, only the uninformed call it that. If you make an ASSS module, make sure it's 100% bullet proof, even to the point where you check the parameters through multiple function calls and lm->Log anything that doesn't make sense. If a zone owner (me) even *thinks* your module is responsible for a crash, they'll never load it again. So effectively you've got one shot at a public release. Don't mess it up
  9. I will no longer tolerate useless drivel outside of the trash talk forum. If you want to tell everyone how cool your are by quoting the previous message and adding a "^" or "lol", then this is not the place for you. I'll delete the message and PM you a link to this post. If I have to do it twice, your HS forum privileges will be removed forever. Off topic replies will also be edited and/or deleted.
  10. Yes. Oh, I'm sure genetics factors into it, but upbringing seems to be more important. I did list a harmful outcome. The old stogy cloned scientists would never relinquish their hold, and shun people who don't think like they do. It's happened a million times throughout scientific history, all one has to do is look.
  11. One thing we could do is clone top scientists in the hopes that genetics played some part in their accomplishments (which I think is quite likely), which would in turn benefit everyone by accelerating discovery. Additionally, real experiments could be done to determine how much genetics determine a person's future and how much of it is from environmental factors (and therefore influence policy for everyone's benefit). This doesn't need to be done unethically; for example we could create 100 clones and raise 50 in a city and 50 in a town and observe the differences years later. Right now all we have is identical twins separated at birth for these things, and 2 is a small sample size (using various pairs of identical twins helps, but introduces more variables from variations present among twin pairs). Plus, we don't outlaw things because there's no reason for it, we outlaw things because they're harmful. There's no reason to hop around on one foot around my apartment building, but we're not outlawing that. Or forever stagnate discovery, which seems more likely. Certain problems take a different way of looking at things than other problems. By your reasoning, cloned scientists would behave as the original, and you'd always be applying the same old reasoning to every problem. Newton and Einstein are notable in history because they *didn't* follow the norm, and great things happened. The same reasoning applies to immortality (which I am very much against): it would stagnate discovery. There *are* harmful outcomes, but no good reasons (cloning scientists isn't a good reason, it's a bad one).

    Xmas!

I'm so busy that if I have to lift a finger, it won't happen. Also, giving out arenas is a huge security risk (just ask Quigybobo).
  13. The idea isn't to create an item that fills both roles (since that would be a no-brainer "choice"), the idea is to make the items that DO fill the roles comparable to each other, forcing real choice. This means that the category summoner is in needs to be filled with other items every bit as useful to a Lancaster as summoner.
  14. Genetic variation between clones means they're not truly clones. Genetic engineering is a topic independent of cloning. They might use the same techniques to grow a person, but the political and moral issues are very different. With cloning, you remove the negative feedback potential of the "defective" genes. Their chances of procreation are still very high regardless of the survival of a single clone. Of course, the same applies to good mutations. This leads to a lower rate of adaptation in either direction (good or bad mutations), effectively slowing evolution.
  15. I watched it live and thought they were really reaching.
  16. Evolutionary stagnation. It's not good for the species. Think about it, someone with a genetic desire to clone themselves will have a higher likelihood of procreation with clones, until eventually the entire gene pool is filled with members that have a desire to clone themselves, leading to an end to evolution. I don't personally believe that argument, because I don't feel that evolution or the welfare of the species is important. If you have a different view, however, then the argument might have merit. Besides, there's really no good reason *for* cloning.
  17. Problem seems to stem from the fact that there's no real choice in FTLs for lancasters. Summoner is so much more useful than the others that there's no point buying anything else. So maybe summoner should be placed in a different category, like alien tech, to encourage diversity. I don't recall the exact reason I left antiwarp off lancasters. I think the reason was two-fold: it was an obvious choice for lancs, reducing customizability, and that not having it might encourage team play. Arnk is really in charge of the item set, and his comments will hopefully shed more light on the matter.
  18. Inner Space. It's like SS, only single player.
  19. No. The other devs and I don't have time.
  20. Moderators moderate. Neither arnk nor myself are moderators. That being said, it's not the job of moderators or developers to enlighten misinformed players like yourself. It's your job.
  21. You took his offhand comment about how team sizes need tweaking and went in a completely different direction. I'd say you can take complete credit for what you came up with, since it's nothing like arnk was envisioning.
  22. No bots would exist. If a fake player controlled by the server flew into the tunnel then it wouldn't get stuck. It'd just fly right out same way it flew in. You still don't know what you're talking about, since you're still using the word bot and presumably don't understand how the subspace collision detection works (client authoritative).
  23. I've got 256MB.
  24. Generally, that's what I do. It's when they start defending their idea, and saying they know what they're talking about that I start digging into them.
  25. Your post was deleted because you were flaming a post that I deleted. It didn't make sense afterward.
