  1. "the house" will not be participating in any betting for these matches, but players are welcome to fill the void. A simple method that could be done by a player (or player bot) would be to just pool all of the bets for each match, and distribute the winnings to the players based on how much they put in. player's win money = (player's input money) * (all contributions * 0.90) / (all winners contributions) The 0.90 gives a 10% profit margin for the bookie bot.
  2. You should set the directdrawrenderer to "opengl". I forget how it's done, but for me it made a 150% difference in frame rates. I think it involves using regedit from wine, but I forget the exact key. Google should help.
  3. That comic is months old.
  4. I've added a sector map module to display the sectors containing flags in blue. It uses the LVZ sector map that has been sitting in the zone for years. It also has a //?target command which allows you to flash a sector in red to your teammates with an optional message. Probably most useful for macros.
  5. The fact that they were made a decade ago only matters if: the technology has improved, or the artists have improved. The technology hasn't changed, and over the past decade, 2d sprites have become a lost art. Just because you can make a good looking 1024x768 image doesn't mean you can make a good 32x32 one. No offense to Diwa and his excellent hi-res warbird, but his low-res warbird does not look good. I use an alternate shipset in Hyperspace because I needed different ship radii, NOT because it looks better than the VIE one (because it doesn't). Things should be refreshed if and only if they'll look better afterwards. Change for the sake of change isn't enough, and I'm worried that that seems to be the thrust of this project.
  6. It's a bad idea to change any of the in-game sounds and graphics. They were professionally made and go well together. Change the skin, splash and menu sounds, but leave the in-game stuff alone.
  7. The Logitech MX Revolution originally retailed for $100, but I've seen it in Best Buy for $50 recently. I'm sure it could be acquired for less money elsewhere. I received it as a replacement for my MX 1000 when it broke under warranty. The Logitech G9 looks to have the same scrolling system, in a wired mouse ($57 on amazon).
  8. The clicks disengage over a certain velocity. Technically, yes, there is friction, but you can scroll 50-100 pages before it stops moving and the clicks reengage. You can always give it another spin to keep it going before that happens, too. If you're looking for a specific page, it's easy to stop it very close to where you want. You can set up one of the multitude of buttons to toggle the mode manually so you can start scrolling without friction immediately, or start clicking immediately, though I rarely use this feature.
  9. Yeah, that's the frictionless scrolling I was talking about in my MX Revolution. It's absolutely amazing for long data sheets.
  10. The GIMP can use them. Just put them in gimp's brush folder. I tested it with version 2.6.

If you have a problem with a specific mod, you should take it up with Rare, D1, and myself (in that order). Otherwise, you need to quit making baseless accusations. lol at the hate arnk replies. Perhaps you don't realize that everything you've said applies to yourself more than arnk, since arnk is specifically looking to bring out the hypocrite in you? Take a dose of your own medicine.

  13. Explain what you mean by succeeded. I seem to recall them failing with SubSpace before I even started playing.

When have I said this? I wouldn't, since I do care about the zone. Introspection much?
  15. Obviously you've never used a quality wireless mouse. I've got an MX Revolution, and an MX 1000 before that. Both very, very good wireless mice. There's no noticeable lag. The only downside is you have to recharge them periodically. I'd probably get a G9 if I bought a new mouse today, since it doesn't have the recharging issue, but still has the selectable frictionless scrolling of the MX Revolution (a totally awesome feature).

    Item names

Yeah, we didn't want to put in any obviously overpowered items.
  17. I'm awful in a Jav, otherwise I'd sign up. Sounds like fun for Jav pilots though!
  18. Happy Fourth of July everyone! On this day of patriotic celebration, take time to reflect on the men and women who have given their lives in the creation and service of this great country. God bless America!
  19. I don't get why it's hard? I did it my first time.
  20. So you want to take players from a zone they like playing, and put them into a zone they've never played to INCREASE population? Sounds like a great way to kill the game. Seriously, there are enough players that check out the small zones to work with. If they like the gameplay, they stick around. If enough stick around, then you move up to being a medium zone. Then you get slightly more people checking it out, and, if it's a good zone, more people sticking around. That's how you become a big zone. Artificially increasing a zone's population is a good way to kill a zone, as lynx alluded to in his post.

Methinks you don't know what corruption means.

I think you're mistaking apathy for corruption.
  23. I've never seen the advantage of a client side script. If there's something you'd like to do client side, then make a protocol addition so you can make a server side script. I can see someone wanting to easily LVZ related events, but perhaps the LVZ format should be extended instead?
  24. This is truely awesome: http://www.jetboatingmontreal.com/ We went to La Ronde one year, but every other year we've done jet boating instead.
  25. Yeah, seriously. Are you quitting Continuum or not? Because while SSForum doesn't revolve around Hyperspace, it does revolve around Continuum.
