  1. Basicly what I said, just way more detail.
  2. I will never implement a system that doesn't have a defined endpoint. I realize that it becomes physicly impossible to keep upgrading with an exponential system, but thats not the same. A fixed system lets players get all the way to a maxed ship, and then they get a sense of completion. The building up of ships is not the goal of Hyperspace, the goal is to have fun. Eventually, people will get the ultamate ship, and have fun playing around in it. Buildup shouldn't last for ever.

    Done.
  4. Or, a better analogy: Dr Brain> There is a locked gate in front of the rope bridge. Cencil> Well, just burn the bridge down. Dr Brain> But then we can't cross Cencil> At least then we don't have to even try.
  5. Uhh, seeing as the zone isn't up, I don't know why you don't feel that you are doing everything you can (cuz you are, really). As for contributing ideas, who really cares? I mean, it's not like thinking up an idea makes it work or anything, someone still has to write it into code. Hate mail? thats a new one for me, actually. But who cares what they think?
  6. Server drops a percentage. I think there is a setting for how far the cutoff goes. There may not be one for bullets, but I know that it's there for bombs.
  7. A different freq ownership model will be created when named teams are introduced.
  8. Even a F1 sytle renderer is ten steps ahead of a plain text file.
  9. You guys still arguing about this? Jeez. The US will last longer than anyone discussing this here. As for Iraq... He was developing them, that has been proved. We haven't found any complete weapons yet, but even prez Clinton made a speech saying Saddam had them during his administration. Bush didn't lie, if anyone did, it was Clinton, and I don't think he lied about this paticular issue. Imminent threat? Bush said in the state of the union before Iraq that we had to attack "before Iraq becomes and imminent threat". Thats pretty clear to me that he didn't think it was a threat yet.
  10. Yes, as all this would really be is RTF with hyperlinks, I don't think it would add a whole lot to the size of the binary, as most tags wouldn't be supported.

    Hey

It's the mystery machine, you uncultured swine
  12. I wrote that specifically to see who was gonna reply like you did. Thats the basic definition of a webserver' date=' and Continuum WILL need to do that unless the page data can be streamed, on the fly, to a custom "browser." [/quote'] Actually, madhaha is right. It's not a web server because it wouldn't be sending web pages. It could be accuratly described as a file server (webservers are a subset of file servers). Because it isn't serving web pages, but rather html files. I also think that to be a web server, you need to implement the HTTP protocol (over TCP/IP is probably another technical requirement), of which a continuum news file server would do neither. What has been suggested is to send news.html (or even not change the name) in the exact same fashion as news.txt is sent now, but to have continuum render the html inside it. Sending the .txt doesn't make subgame a news server, sending a html file doesn't make it a web server.

    Hey

    Sroobie droobie doo!
  14. Yes, prox radius. Sorry for any confusion.
  15. Were this another thread, I would delete all the spam, but it started out as one, so I will leave it.
  16. Team names in announcements wont happen Only some things are changable on a player-to-player basis. Rate of fire is. Max mines are. Fire costs are. EMP and bouncing bombs aren't. Weapon velocity isnt. Prox isn't.
  17. Actually, it doesnt even exceed the capibilites of the TWCore. Rather, it needed position packets, something we had to get a modified core to do. When the core was being modified, bugs were introduced that caused the instabilites. Because we never found the problem, we ported to ASSS. Something that has hurt us in the short term, but will help us immensly in the long term.
  18. Quite possible, yes. I'm not sure how long it will take him to make, so I will just start with green messages announcing it.
  19. These ideas have been rattling around my brain for a while, and I figured that I would let you guys know about them. Item revamp I plan on having items dissapear when you use them. So instead of having 3 repels every time you spawn, you would only have three repels until you use one. You would then have 2 repels every time you spawn (and enter the zone). This was impossible with the bot system, and so I never gave it much thought. Upgrade revamp Rather than having l3bomb, and l2gun, and all those nasty energy/speed upgrades, I had an idea... Have different named items that have different properties. For example, the Plasma Cannon is a L1 gun with bouncing bullets. This would be the default weapon (the replacement for the l1gun). Another weapon could be the Gatling Gun, a non-bouncing L2 gun with a high rate of fire that uses ammo. Shotguns could be blue non-bouncing multifire, etc, etc, etc. Similar things can be done with bombs. I would also add a weight component to every item. Each ship has a max load. Anything over that, and the ship loses thrust, rotation, and speed. Then, I would remove all the upgrades, and instead have items that embody upgrades. For example, a Enhanced Thruster Array would give thrust and rotation boosts. A Talirac Drive would boost thrust, speed, and recharge. Im sure you all see the potential fun that can be had with an item based setup. Warping Already been hashed out in another thread. New Items Sensors: lets you see enemy's energy, instead of just team mates. Flashbangs: Seeing as it isnt actually for sale at the moment, I think it qualifies as a new item. I would change it so you have to have one present on your ship to launch it. I would also have it only effect your current sector. Nukes: Boom. Three ultra-powerful thors for an absolutly insane price. Probably others I have forgotten and havent remembered in the 10 mins it took to type this update. Team names I want private teams to have names (public teams too). Rather than freq 4529, you would be the "Orion Crusaders", or whatever you choose to call your team. The =#### command would be disabled, and you would need to use a new "?team My Team:team_p!@#$%^&*" command. Teams would have a password that the team owner can change with a command. I would also modify the victory messages to have something like "Team victory (Orion Crusaders). Reward: $3456" CTF Catch all the flags, drop them all to win. Original? I think not. Capture all the flags, drop them in the FR, and defend them for 3 miniutes? Sound slightly better? I thought so. An added bonus is that the server can announce the countdown. More things can be done with flags, but this was one of the better (and not too complicated) ideas I came up with. If you guys have ideas for flags, be sure to share them here. Powerball I'm sure something fun can be done with the powerball, I just haven't given it much thought. If anyone has fun ideas (not things that have been done a bajillion times) for it, I am all ears (eyes, whatever). Note: If you could spend a few extra seconds punctuating your replies, I am more likely to read every line.
  20. Don't blame me! It was the smods! I swear! You can't prove anything!
  21. Complicated? No, not really. But it's not happening anyway. I don't want new players taking out a loan, and getting a great ship they can flag all the money back with. Loans will never happen.
  22. Money enters and leaves the system all the time. I have never had a problem with ?grants, as they don't really effect the game much, and add a LOT more fun as far as events are concerned. I have some plans for making money leave the system more, but I wont go into them now. Now, as moderators arent hosting events 24/7 (and I'm not saying they should), any player who wants to start some event is free to do so. Thats one of the things I love about ?give. That probably means that there will be an entry fee, and if you can take some money off it for 'administration fees', no one will complain.
  23. Can you please enable fast reply in the SSCI Hyperspace zone forum? Thanks.
  24. We are moving to sscx when their ASSS server is ready, but other than that, not much.
  25. Actually, it's possible to make certain guns require ammo, and you have to go shopping for it every now and then. That, and a few other ideas would solve the lack of continous input into a ship. I doubt that I will ever implement a exponential curve system, as thats not really what I'm trying to acheive here. The lack of a sense of completion will drive people away, IMO. And once you have your ultamate ship, you have to be able to play around in it. It also puts a cap on how upgraded ships can be, as with a curve system, it will be impossible for newbies to ever catch up to the vets (as the vets will still be upgrading).
