They claim that this can run on a 512MB Atom processor, if this is true (which I doubt, because I've never actually seen this running with Aero enabled, and even without Aero enabled looks very resource-hogging with all the eye-candy) then Microsoft have actually done themselves a favour - if not, then this is just Vista SP3. I've used this OS, and the only better things I've seen are: A more configurable UAC Less bloat Has Spotlight (The thing they have on Mac) except with this you hit the Windows key, and you get the application in the first few keystrokes Has Mac-like dock for applications Has a Mac-like way of exploring the files... As for it being 'snappier' or whatever, I never saw *any improvements over XP, especially when you configure XP properly. Also, if you read some unbiased reviews (no, not ZDNet, because they're about as reliable as a fucking water-balloon) you'll notice there aren't actually any huge improvements benchmark wise either. As far as I can see it, Microsoft have missed the boat completely on what an OS is supposed to do, and have instead impressed the majority of the market (like they always have) and created another OS which is pretty, glossy and fun to play with. And it doesn't even stop there. Win7 is just another load of bullshit that's been thrown out of the Microsoft propaganda machine, Vista was several years delayed and you think they just poped out Win7 in 18 months. Rooight. But don't get me wrong here, if I were to ever (stupidly) go back to a Microsoft distro, I'd probably go Win7, but I'm arguing here that in all of these years, what exactly has Microsoft achieved OS wise compared to Solaris, *nix, OSX? How has market share fluctuated? Then of course you've got to look at how well Win7 will do from a business point of view. Here are a few axioms you've got to remember: 1. Consumers don't put a new OS on Wintel platforms, they buy a new system. 2. Businesses don't spend money without some sort of justification. 3. Moore's Law is now adding more cores and threads, not more mippage on a single task. 4. Disks, RAM and other drivers of new equipment purchase are pretty much ``as much as you want for as little as you want''. 5. Netbooks and small laptops are the current hot items. 6. XBoxes and the like are providing gamers with an alternative to PCs 7. The economy has tanked since Vista shipped. With all that in the basket, and there being much more support for open source and online applications such as what Google provides, then why are people going to be so eager to change to Win7? If they couldn't get the market to migrate to Vista unless they force them to via 'downgrades' when purchasing computers, what's the bloody point? Then there's my own opinion, and why I'll never go for anything running Microsofts kern again. Bitrot. And yes, Win7 will still suffer it - so your system may be great at first, but let's see how well it runs after a few months of use. -Lynx

Wow, he's painting that with that brush? I'd make a mess painting my walls with a brush that big... -L

I guess only a few of us appreciate how thick hotel curtains are, and how accessible they make the light switches. -L

I've gotten Continuum working on the Mac via WINE, but it's really unstable. The best advice I can give you for getting Continuum working nicely on a Mac is to either: Install Ubuntu/Windows on your Mac and use Bootcamp to run it, it will give you the option of either OS when you boot If you've got Win on your Mac, you can use Parallels to run Continuum (However, the latest parallels release is a real damn drag) Also, are you using XCode to compile ASSS, if you are then have you been able to compile ASSS in XCode? -Lynx

No, mines big enough. -L

I'd hit that. -L

I've got an iPhone, but if I were going for anything else it would be the G1. -L

Meh, I heard it's worse than CoD4 so I saw no point in it. -L

Sex tip: Don't take advice from forums seriously. -L

Elaborate? I'd rather be able to read the opinion of other people, as everybody on these forums is in a country where free-speech is practiced, right? I mean, hasn't Cerium had his time complaining on the staff boards about Aceflyer doing this shit? Didn't everybody agree then that it's bloody stupid? What's changed? -L

That's the biggest crock of shit I've ever read. Firstly, claiming ignorance is a fucking perfect excuse. If we were talking about mass genocide because loads of people drove at 70 outside schools and killed a bunch of kids - I'd be on your side, because every fucker who was acting like a complete retard would have known better. You know why they'd have known better? Because they'd have been educated in the matter, hence why they'd have had a driving license. Now, my second point is that 'because they didn't bother to pick up a newspaper to find out what the world is like' is probably one of the worst things to say. There's a reason why we elect somebody to make decisions, and that's because they're not meant to pick up a news paper and 'understand what the world is like'. They're meant to have professionals in each area who liaise their findings and come up with pragmatic solutions to a pretty fucking easily-avoidable problem. To make the finale, I'd say that whole 'ball dropping' point would probably be somewhere, well, anywhere really (Considering how long this fucking 'war' has been going on for) between the lies, and the downright deceit. I beg to differ, plenty of idiots who were for the war have realised that they were actually shitting in the face of humanity, and have openly admitted it. OKay, let's work by your rationale. What did *I* do to contribute to the masses of problems that Bush has created... Oh yeah, fuck all. What could I do about it? Well, I could post on SSF about how much I hate Bush, and hope that somebody has a euphoric moment, breaks from their partisan liking toward a twat and creates a damn revolution. Oh yeah, that don't happen... So, I'll do fuck all, and hope that somebody who's *not as much* of a war-mongering arsehole isn't elected next time around. -Lynx (I've got more to say, but really can't be arsed)

Merry Christmas, and since being punctual isn't my thing, I'll say .. And a Happy New Year now. -L

Hey, if internetz censoriousness was good, China wouldn't fucking suck. -Lynx
-
Never mind, there's always the internetz where you can find loads of boring shit out about games... if you're interested. To be completely honest, if i wanted the low down on a game that's just come out, I'd judge it myself by watching the trailer or reading the synopsis. If that doesn't do it justice, the game will probably suck. But, in your defense... I had no idea a game forum existed... but in PoLiX's defense, I wouldn't have visited it anyway. -L
-
I feel like I've just wasted 10 seconds of my life reading an opinion that's complaining about another opinion. -L
-
It would be good if it could happen, but as PoLiX said: * Continuum is a clone of Subspace, albeit a better one, and BDE owns Subspace which makes legal negotiations hard. * PriitK would need to actively develop Continuum (and get it running on Steam), and that's not happening. Oh well, sucks. -L

Just from that sentence, I think we all do understand why you don't understand. Big Brother is filmed inside a house, with Cameras. There are a lot of CCTV cameras in London, but to be fair - unless you're hiding something pretty damn big then you've not got to worry about a bunch of Cameras. Furthermore, it's not like all of the cameras in London are govt. owned, so it's hardly a 'Big Brother London' - It's more like 'Some areas of London there are CCTV Cameras, because London is full of arseholes and if you've ever been out on a Friday night in certain parts of London, you'd understand why the cameras are there'. Anyway, I'm still a little too shocked to retort to Confess, and I wouldn't like to offend him - because I'd have to. I'll just wrap this up here. -L

Loads of sugar, I bet. <3 -L

That was a joke post, right? I need some clarification. -L

Interesting. I'd like to see how this turns out. -L

I hope we get a white Christmas over here in England, would be awesome. -L

It's not surprising that people may still think that IE is fine, even though it is one of the lower scoring browsers available. Take IE 8, ['out of the box'] it scores a measly 12/100 on the Acid3 test (http://acid3.acidtests.org/) - and generally speaking isn't a very secure browser, either (At least for passwords, which has been mentioned, albeit off topic, in this thread). If you really want to be secure with your passwords, don't be a lazy bastard - and remember them. Once you've done that, type them in instead of relying on your computer to insert them for you. If you use the internet a lot then it should become very easy to type in your password if you have to type it daily. However if you're logging into something that really isn't that important in the scheme of things (SSForum for example) - trust your browser. Now, back to topic. The IE vulnerability isn't a problem with the password manager it's self, it's a problem that occurs due to an invalid pointer reference in the data binding function of IE. So, to put it more simple there are a number of sites which require data binding, and data binding is enabled by default. When it is triggered it is possible under certain conditions for an object to be released without updating the array length. If this occurs, similar effects to a buffer overflow hack can occur, where any other malicious code can be executed in the deleted memories space. Therefore, anybody with some know-how can take your password if they wish - but they could do pretty much anything else with this venerability. It leaves you completely open, and it is an IE only problem (big surprise there). Please, don't be a Microsoft fan-boy, and use something other than IE. Cheers, Lynx

I'm sorry, but I'm too cool to be seen at anything like that. -L
