Mhmm, I figured the only phones worth mentioning were the ones that typically send data well enough for a chat client, but good point.

I've not read this thread in it's entirety as I can predict pretty much any pro-torture views, all I am going to say is anybody who thinks that torture is acceptable in any scenario without any kind of accountability is somebody who I am glad has no decision making power. Far too often humans put their emotions before rational decisions, far too often enough for me to believe torture is ever a pragmatic choice. On top of that, it's not even slightly irrational to believe that people will say anything when they're being tortured, just so they aren't tortured any further. You can argue that you can assess those answers, but it's not hard at all to waste your time long enough for any information to be irrelevant. Then of course, this whole system works off a 'guilty until proven innocent' ideology, and if you're an advocate of those kind of beliefs then I really do feel sorry for you. Anything what somebody may say to justify torture is completely moot. I often hear people saying that the enemy would not show us mercy, and torture us. If your morals lead you to believe that it's okay to do something, just because the enemy is also doing it - I reiterate that I am glad you have no decision making power. Torture is unfortunately a sign that humans are in-fact just animals, and something that we should suppress as much as possible. I'd bet a pretty penny that if torture was on your doorstep, that if you had to witness it or even enforce it, there would be a clear (logical) majority vote that torture is completely wrong, and should be avoided at all costs. If you believe that you're wiser than the thousands of people before you who have condemned torture, then you're nothing short of a damn fool. Also, who pays the price if the person really is innocent? What could you possibly give back to that person? Can you put a price on physical harm, or even worse - mental harm? Is the person who's torturing the victim accountable, are those who gave the orders? Who should be able to make these kind of decisions? Surely in order to torture somebody, you should be able to understand all of the negative consequences of torture... How can you ever assess something like that? How long should the person be held captive just because it's 'believed' that the person is involved in something? Literally thousands of moral questions arrise to me instantly questioning torture. The simple fact is that torture should never be present in any nation that supports civil liberties and human rights to it's people. If you're an advocate of torture, you're simply just as bad as those people you're fighting.

Yes, those who are using phones that can run .jar files can run Chatnut. But a Continuum chat client is another story...

From what I've seen of Obama, I wouldn't say he's against the use of the military (as D1s pointed out) - he's just against a pointless war (such as Iraq + Afghanistan).

Grab your OS X installation disk, and load it into XP and install any hardware drivers on there. If that doesn't solve your problem, then it's not incompatible hardware drivers.

@doc flabby: Yeah, that phone looks the sex, the first phone which has really contended to me personally against the iPhone, however I disagree with your premise on iPhone market vs Java capable phones. Currently the iPhone is not far behind RIM in market share, in-fact I could see it taking over RIM in 2010. With that in mind, though, I'd argue that we should be trying to develop for as many platforms as possible. That includes Android, and any others. I know that once I get my head around Continuum encryption I'll be up for getting an iPhone client out (I have a Mac, and an iPhone).

Meh, I'd be up for making a Chatnet client in Obj-C but I don't have an iPhone developer account (...which costs money). I'm not particularly interested in learning any other platforms but I do know that Smong made some Chatnet clients. As for making a chat client that runs on the Continuum encryption. Good Luck The only person who's actually openly cracked the Continuum encryption is Snrrrub. Explody Thingy could probably do it too, but Explody I think is a bit too busy to work on ExplBot. All I could say is, if you see Explody urge him to work on his bot more (particularly the Continuum Encryption part of it) as he comments all of his code fully, and more-so in a way that pretty much anybody with some programming experience can understand. If that day comes I'll be more than willing to buy a developer account and create a chat client just to learn about encryption in general (which I've not been taught, or bothered to self-learn). Not to mention that other people like Dr Brain could do it easily enough... But I think I remember him saying something about paying him.. Considering the advertising thing ran dry after something like 15 bucks, good fucking luck getting money from Subspace lul.

Mhmm, I send all of my old stuff (I throw out a lot of clothes) to my ex girlfriends mum. She regularly visits Freetown, Sierria Leone to donate items personally. Good topic.

I run DCME in Wine, however it's not great to say the least. I half-blame that on the fact I am using a Mac, though.

There's about 20 of us in CS who use it to take notes in lectures and we also use it in group work. I find it very useful. I think the UI could be a little smarter, but I think that it will get better.

So you plan on making a Subspace RPG to educate future Subspace players? Do you *really* think that will ever be popular? Are you forgetting your entire target audience and point? Firstly, if this RPG is more popular than the game that's a good thing - that's more *free* advertising, and more of an actual accomplishment. Like Dr Brain has pointed out, no developer is going to do something for it to fail. At the end of the day, a Subspace RPG isn't a hard feat to complete, but it IS very time consuming and requires a LOT of fine tuning. That means that somebody has to sit there for hours first of all plan, understand and then design the complete game and then actually make and implement everything in the system smoothly without anything other than their own personal satisfaction/enjoyment/learning experience/whatever of creating the game.. So what I was trying to say is if you want some developers, you need to win over some developers with a decent design plan. It's just the same as making a zone. Nothing in making a zone is particularly difficult, maps are simple - settings are very straight forward, and so is just about *everything* else. However, just knowing the system isn't enough. You need to spend hours tuning and understanding how everything you change has an adverse effect. That's why the majority of zones are abandoned as fast as down syndrome kids are, they take fucking ages and are a pain in the arse to maintain, but if you do get it right - they're extremely fun and (i personally) really enjoy playing and changing them to understand them. Anyway, as I'm sure nobody will actually post a complete plan of a Subspace RPG in a way in which developers can easily start getting to work.. I'll just bid you guys good luck. Good luck.

Berlusconi (Italy's Prime Minister) hit in face at campaign rally
Lynx replied to Bak's topic in General Discussion
He didn't escape. He's still in isolation, and he wasn't hit with a fist he was hit with a marble and metal souvenir. I suspect he'll be trailed, but let off easy due to his mental instabilities. Berlusconi wouldn't be foolish enough treat him otherwise for what is just a petty attack. -
Hey, they're really nice graphics. You could always make it optional for users to use these graphics (set up some simpler placeholders with the level download - I would definitely download these graphics, and I am to say the least rarely ever impressed with Subspace graphics/sounds.
-
Mhmm, that's pretty lame.

EffectGames is great, I think it could be used to create a single player Subspace taster, and I don't think it would take that long either. Also, the Facebook platform isn't too complex, I've already played around with it (hence Purges comment), but you don't need to know it at all to make a SubSpace RPG, to do that you need a good idea, you need to be interested in that idea and you need to be able to make that idea work well. A hack job for population that nobody seems interested to put the work into (yes, that means plan, design and implement) will never work. Sorry to be glim, but unless somebody is going to start realistically planning or even doing parts of the design, nobody else is going to be interested in joining with you to develop.

Isn't a script that pretty much obsoletes your job role for the next 1.5 years something that you keep to yourself?

Continuum will run fine with Bootcamp, it's not on OS X/Apple error, and I am not sure what your particular error is (and can be handled like any other Continuum error on Windows) - if you would rather use OS X, you can load Windows into a virtual machine or you can install Wine onto your system to run Continuum natively (without Windows software) on OS X. To do this, you'll need to download and install Macports and using Terminal install the following packages: bison fontforge freetype X11 You will then need to download wine from source. Once you've got that, run ./configure in and then patch the kernel32 file. I don't know how cmdlui savvy you are, if you have any trouble doing these things a step by step solution can be found here. Leave another post if you're not sure about anything.

I hope it doesn't take that long...geez. I don't see what the point is of focusing on Subgame compatibility before Continuum interoperability. ASSS might be the first and recommended server, if Discretion works there maybe more zones will try ASSS. I think this is the best line of thinking. Once subgame has finally been completely obsoleted, the urge for better asss documentation would be even more outstanding. Subgame is great for newbs who want to set up a zone that will ultimately fail, but it's definitely not good for any mainstream zone.
