  2. The zone simply doesn't have enough population to support 2 pubs + a 7 player priv. HS typically peaks around 30 players, 10 of which are in spec. After removing the priv and solo griefing players, and dividing by two, pub freqs have 5-8 players, a few of which are newbies. By themselves they would be challenged to handle the priv freq, but they just flank each other. There are two possible solutions that have been discussed ad naseum but neither has been implemented: 1. Two pub freqs all the time, no privs (maybe solo privs). The popularity of pub flagging events tends to support this, as does the fact that virtually every other flagging zone does it this way. 2. Remove freq size limits, allowing all of pub to gang up on the main priv freq. Presently, pub freq sizes are capped to (9 I think) so they can't achieve even mere parity with a priv freq when skill and items are taken into consideration. Let "the market" decide how many people should be on a freq, as each additional person reduces the jp winnings, but may increase the chance of victory. I don't agree that the rich players are rich because they play all the time. Not everyone who plays all the time is rich. Those who have made $ do it by being in teams that are bountying in flag games due to the ineffectiveness of attacking freqs due to the above.

  4. Plasma's problem is it is does 10% less damage/sec and 30-35% less damage/energy than pulse/flech, for 20% more damage when a bullet does hit. Or, you get 20% more damage for 45% more energy cost. Then there's its little brother shrap booster, which is suckier but redundant, i.e. giving javs plasma outright wouldn't have been unbalancing imo. I think to fix Plasma you'd either need to drop its energy cost to about 50-55, or increase its damage to 300 or so. These numbers are in line with the progression from red->yellow, but yellow->blue is very unfavorable atm.
  5. I realize that it was intended to promote the use of FTL drives, but all it's done is create noobish gatemining/farming tactics. It didn't create any additional incentive to get FTL drives because whoever can afford them gets them anyway.
  6. Remove antideath from shark. A couple resets ago basing was reduced to whoever's "ad shark brickwarped the opposing lanc first wins". The remedy was to make bricks so expensive they don't get used anymore hardly. This didn't really solve the problem, because now the shark just berserks with bursts/brick attack/shredder when he gets to the enemy lanc. Ironically, defensive bricks which used to be a defense against this were effectively eliminated along with the offensive use. With ad + energy infusion you effectively have to kill a shark 4 times before it's really dead. Between the second and third lives the shark gets free invisible movement until the defensive players screens are updated. Anti-death sharks are by far the most unbalanced aspect of the game, because they allow a single player with a souped-up shark to waltz through a full enemy team and kill their lanc.

  10. This thread gave me an idea for a new point defense system. Let's call it An!@#$%^&*hor PDS. It is armed with reps. Instead of tracking enemy ships it tracks incoming thors, and whenever it detects one, it automatically repels. This would be used by a lanc in a FR to defend against thorwhoring. Possible? Interesting enough to do?
  11. Wallbombing is the closest thing that attackers have to balancing out the overwhelming advantage defenders have in certain bases. The term Aquarius is looking for is 'splash damage radius'. The issue you're talking about to comes down to whether the Weasel should have HE Missiles or not. When they were added, guns and speed were nerfed to compensate. HE Missiles work much better in base than the old weasel bombs, so I'd say it accomplished the goal of making the Weasel a base option again. Take them away without some other rebalancing and the Weasel becomes totally useless.
