Well, given how we are five days from the reset, and since you need about nine days to fully utilize the technique, I'll tell you the secret: Did you know the traditional bank account growth rate is an exponential function? In real life, that doesn't mean much, because it takes so long to acquire income that by the time your money doubles you are an old man. If you are a billionaire though, interest is high enough that your bank interest can be your yearly income and you don't actually need to work. In the Army system world however, interest is acquired at an hourly rate. The banks were designed for a system that doesn't have a UP cap. Thus, they normally aren't as good as a source of income as simply increasing your UP. However, this round a UP cap was put in place. Population increased linearly, wealth increased quadratically, yet bank interest still increased exponentially. I noticed this fact on day 1, and early on put a ton of money in a super saver account. That money increased at a 4% per hour rate for the whole month. If you notice, 4% per hour approximately means "doubles per day". Now my bank account has grown to about 5 trillion. Most of the people in the top 10 now have similar bank accounts. As for how many thors I have? Right now strength is limited by number of troops. Due to me suddenly getting a !@#$%^&*load of troops I have 100,000 thors. To hit people in the top 10 you need atleast 1000. How often did I long on? Only three times per day. It simply didn't matter who I hit or if I banked...my bank was always safe and the rate it was increasing made traditional income trivial. Infact, I wanted to avoid combat, because combat means casualties and casulties meant few troops for me now. Polix made an offer for me to become part of the staff in charge of this thing. I apolgize for not giving him an immeadiate reply, though I am busy with a important mid-term. I am willing to accept the position and will be ready to start tomorrow.

Remember the good ole days when you didn't need a video card at all to run games? Forget Microsoft requiring Vista for Halo, that extortion amounts to nothing. What about the entire software industry's need to constantly require more and more hardware to do what is ultimately the same !@#$%^&* thing? I remember a little game called Descent. That game was friggin awesome. It was a truly 3D game, wheras its hard to find a game nowadays with true complete 3D gameplay. Most PC games nowadays are RPGs where you walk around on a 2D surface that may have some elevation, which gameplay wise they had in the 1970s, but now they have pretty graphics that disguise the fact that the game stinks conceptually. You know what the requirements for Descent was? About 16mb of RAM and a basic soundblaster. It ran on nothing and from a gameplay perspective was better than Halo in my opinion. Granted, it doesn't compete in the graphics department, but...I don't care. If I want to watch something pretty I'll go to the movie theatre. However, you can't buy a game nowadays without it requiring a gig of RAM and 128 MB of Video RAM. I'm tired of being told that in order to run a $20 PC game I need to buy a new computer. (My computer was designed by a group of monkeys and while I have a gig of RAM and a good processor, it is incapable of supporting video hardware.) That's insane, and clearly shows why PC games aren't selling any more. Software designers no longer design their software based upon their customer's needs, but they expect the customer to have enough hardware to be worthy of their product. That's not how capitalism is supposed to work! Sama, you want my advice? !@#$%^&* the video card. Buy a PSIII, Xbox, or Wii. In the long run you'll be able to play more !@#$%^&*les, it will be less stressfull, it will be less costly and you won't have that moment of dread of whether or not the game you just bought that you can't get a refund for will actually work on your computer. With the direction these computer nuts are going a 256MB Video RAM card will be obsolete in a couple years anyway.

Dammit! This sucks! I want the reason that people think I'm kicking everyone's !@#$%^&* to be my superior managerial skills, not because Swift caught a bug and gave me 100,000 troops. Oh well, I have a mid-term tomorrow. I'll deal with it then.
-
No, that's what I would like to know!! I've been #1 for weeks and I don't need this many troops to stay on top. Maybe Swift in startled confusion gave me 100,000 of his troops.
-
Don't look at me, I'm just as confused as the rest of you. It looks as if I suddenly recieved 100,000 attack specialists, though I do not know how. Maybe its some sort of hidden reward system in the programming for either having a lot of turns or a lot of points. Wait, you people can see me?!?!? Here all this time I thought my sentry was so high that I was invisible. Secondly, not that it would have been successful, but none of you attempted to take that huge lump of cash I had lying around. Come on! I thought you people hated me! I'm the evil !@#$%^&* that has dominated this game for the past three weeks! Every one of you top 10ers outside my clan have each lost hundreds of top quality weapons to sabotage! You people finally had a chance to give me a good bloody nose and all of you pass!? If for some strange reason this army is legitimate, I believe its game over. In the more likely case it is some bug, I should have 1,100 attack specialists. I have done the favor of not buying or arming any more of them until tomorrow. At that time, I'll start arming them, but won't increase the size of my attack force.

Well, that's not even the point Veg. According to my memory, the official Vatican opinion on capital punishment is that if you knew absolutely that the murderer did the crime, than capital punishment is acceptable. However, since no mortal body is infallible, they believe capital punishment shouldn't be used for that reason. In my opinion, that's goes a little too far and is an overreaction made by clergy who have spent their entire careers apologizing for supposed crimes of the past. My point being, sometimes guilt is clear, and sometimes the crime is so heinous that life in prison is simply not enough. For instance, I'd say that any murder that occurs on a video camera from a reliable source, along with other corroborating evidence, we'd be sure of the guilt. If we don't have such iron-clad evidence, life would be more appropriate, but if the certainty of guilt was THAT absolute, the option for death sentence should be open.

Covert levels are important. Infact, when there isn't a max, its the second most imporant stat after UP. Wheras offense/defense tech adds a +25%, each covert level upgrade doubles the effectiveness of both spies and sentries. Ofcourse, covert is like offense and defense. You need a soldier and a weapon. However, level n covert multiplies the effectiveness of the spy by 2^n. It's hard to win a long term war with someone if he has better covert - he'll sab the !@#$%^&* out of you. Furthermore, you don't know what the results of any of your attacks is going to be beforehand, whereas he can do precision strikes. With covert doubling spy and sentry, if he has two spy levels over you, you have to train four spies for every one of his to keep up, which is !@#$%^&* near impossible to do, unless you either upgrade your covert and even the score, or happen to have a much bigger UP. I for one had my covert level maxed out at 10 by the end of the first week. Oh, about those ships...isn't the Javelin supposed to have 30% bonuses to offense and defense? After playing in 17th Parallel for so long, I never thought I would ever type these words: Don't nerf the Javelin.

I'm now happy to present round 2 of this contest!! This time the one and only target is Cigar. The timetable for this contest is that it begins right now and ends when I say so, though this one will probably be going on for several days. The prize is 5 thors for every one turn attack made against the target. That is regardless of the outcome of the attack. If the attack succeeds and you net 10mil, you get 5 thors. If the attack fails, you get 5 thors. If the attack yields no profits, you get 5 thors. For simplicity's sake, I'm only paying for 10 turn attacks. Also, the idea is to m!@#$%^&* the little sob. If you attack him 5 times in a row you get 25 thors. I don't need to see the log of every individual attack. Please post results in the form of copy of your attack page. If you post it the same way rootbear did, as a screenshot of the attack page, I'll add an additional bonus thor per attack. (You don't have to add the red circles if you don't want to.)

The soldiers of Ailestan believe in the religion of the SSCentralGods, where you do what we tell you, or else. Thus, they can attack at all times of day on all days.

Actually as anyone here will testify, I have figured out the secret to sabbing. This morning I took out over a hundred of Cookieteam's Temp Shields + Temp Supers, and he certainly isn't skimping on his sentry. I guess what I can tell you is that you should send one spy every time. It's counter-intuitive, but the less spies you send on a mission the better. You have to develop your own feel as how many weaps to go after.
-
Oh crap, I already paid off those who didn't say anything in the form of offensive weapons.
-
The income from the bank is good, but I wouldn't say its that good Sama. hutupsay tupidsay
-
Oh, sorry, I got hasty there. As for the whiners...stuff like this happens. Actually, since its rare that 10 turn attacks yeild 5 mil points, especially on the lower levels, I expected it to be much much worse for you. I was thinking about spending about 500mil to have you guys massed rather than 80mil for some off and on attacks. I'll need to adjust my language next time.

The system wasn't designed to have UP max out at 21. These next two weeks are just going to suck now. Weapons are vastly exceeding income. In two weeks no one will be attacking each other because it won't be profitable. Well, I seem to have a knack lately irl for coming up with very rude but very practical solutions to problems in the past week. Here I go again: The problem here is the people in charge of this RPG, while experienced in the matters of running a forum, do not have experience with this type of game. The people who usually run the large scale cousins of these games are usually long time veterans. The "tuning" of many aspects of this game need to be calculated. In Subspace the results of settings manipulation can be seen immeadiately. Even then, it usually takes months worth of fine tuning for a zone to develop settings that please most of the players. For KoC games, the results of settings manipulation usually takes months to develop. What's needed is to actually sit down and calculate growth functions. In this particular case, income is bounded from above by a 2nd order polynomial. The rate at which weapons are acquired is proportional to the rate of income, so total weapons strength is proportional to the anti-derivative of the income function and bounded from above by a 3rd order polynomial. 3rd order polynomials grow faster than 2nd order polynomials, so it was inevitable that repair costs exceed income. Usually there is no UP cap and income is exponential. That would make the weapons function also exponential, which means that apply the right constant and they should increase at the same rate. Respectfully, there needs to be an additional person on the part of the staff who is managing the RPG...someone who knows a lot about these type of games and has a heavy mathematics or statistics background. Oh, one more thing...the transfer service won't let me move more than 100,000 points.
-
Alright, contest over. !@#$%^&*...I sorta meant "attack page" and not "attack logs". I'll assume that all attacks made were 10 turn attacks. As far as I can tell, this is the winnings owed to each player: Suicide Run 10,000,000 freakmonger 10,000,000 rootbear 65,000,000 PM me to make arrangements for payment. I for one would prefer to pay in the form of weapons so that payment doesn't have to be timed, though I can pay points.
-
um, yeah...you didn't post you attack logs rootbear. Well, rc, since no one so far has taken out Kir and his bounty is worth more than the others I'd go for him. Suicide_Run, good point...I'll place a cap of 100,000,000 prize per person for (200 turns of attacking)...I have my limits. Yes, anyone who isn't in the top 5 may play. Also, anyone who is in my clan may play. I just don't want to be financing any of my curret rivals here... Yes, I'm 22...I just happen to have a lot of time on my hands because I'm finishing off the last couple classes I need for my major...one real class, one "cultural awareness" class, and PE. After I graduate I certainly won't have enough time to play this game.
-
Okay, weapons replaced. You can stop hating me now.
-
Oh...you were attacking them...I didn't realise. Since you are participating I'll replace those weapons I just sabbed. That will be, ofcourse, on top of what I'm paying you. Whoops Sorry

On behalf of the SSCentralGods, I cordially "welcome" all new members of the MG Infidels to this little Roleplaying Game here. This contest is very simple...all you have to do is attack a member of the MG Infidels clan and post a screenshot of your attack logs here as proof. It doesn't matter if the attack succeeds or fails, I will pay you on top of whatever your attack brings in. Contest begins today at 8:30 AM EST/12:30 PM GMT and ends today at 8:30 PM EST/12:30 AM GMT. Rewards: 1,000,000 points per turn for all attacks on Kir (A 10 turn attack nets 10,000,000) 500,000 points per turn for all other MG Infidels. Members of the MG Infidels may not participate in this contest. Additionally, any player who is within the top 5 and not a member of the SSCentralGods clan is also ineligable. Warning: Attacks that are not posted here will not be rewarded!

The reason I can sab "easily" is because I have focused on my spy skills. I'm the only player who chose the spider at the start of this session, though a couple players have chosen it later. As for YOU, however, I didn't need to. Your sentry according to my last recon was a laughable 136. I could "sneak" a marching band into your base and you wouldn't detect it. I'm not going to say what my covert is exactly, but I'll just point out that its greater than 5,000,000. So, 5,000,000 vs 136...its actually beyond stunning that you stopped as many sabs as you did...likely as a result of some newbie protection programming. If those around your rank sabbed you, it must have been devastating. Suffice to say that there is nothing wrong with the sab system, its that your sentry was just that bad. One feature I've seen in other army core games that seems to be important is a "flee in terror" feature. It applies to when a defender is ten times stronger than his attacker. When this occurrs, the numerical amount of damage the defender does is replaced with "a massive amount of damage", the attackers suffer double casualties, and the defenders suffer no troop loss or weapons damage. This prevents lowbies from getting information from a 1 turn attack, and also prevents increadibly weak players from massing strong hard-to maintain defenses.
-
Sentry also is what determines if others can see how much stuff you have on the attack screen...get a high enough sentry and no one will know if and when you have points, though your sentry has to be MUCH higher than his spy to create in intelligence blackout. Its no subs!@#$%^&*ute for defense, especially in a small environment like this, but it is important. Example: An enemies offense is slightly lower than your defense. A 1 turn attack reveals to him that if he spent 2mil increasing his offense, he could take down your defense, though he would rather spend the money somewhere else. Suppose at the time you have 6mil out. If your sentry is good, he won't know how many points you have out and won't spend the money building his offense. As far as he knows, the attack could yield no gain and he would rather spend the 2 mil on something else. If your senty isn't, he knows building offense will yield a 4mil profit not counting his new beefed up offense, and he'll attack. Usually offense and defense wins battles while spy and sentry wins wars.

If you had as many thors as that post had exclamation points, you would actually be able to get revenge instead of talking about getting revenge.

In foreign news today, Davland has arisen to second place today, which should ease up on Ailestan's foreign threats. This has come less than a week after the nation took control of the forces formally lead by Polix. The Foreign Ministry gave an address to the people of Davland, thanking them for their sacrifices in this jihad against the infidels. The infidel nation of Rootania is now down to third place. A quick morning sabotage destroyed many of his defensive weapons, and the subsequent raid yielded 8 million foloose. The Department of Information of the Democratic People's Republic and Definitely Not a Theocratic Dictatorship of Ailistan gave a statement today, stating that it seems that Rootania is gathering resources over the course of several days in order to spend all of it at once and gain supremacy for a few minutes. However, routine attacks against both Rootania and all other EBA nations should prevent such debacles from occuring in the future. In other news today, it seems a grave threat occured to our nation in the capital today, as a local diner began serving BLT sandwitches. Police acted quickly, summoned up a volunteer group of concerned citizens. The group acted quickly and after grabbing their torches and pitchforks burned the diner to the ground, and within hours identified several persons believed to have eaten at the diner, who were promptly rounded up and sent on a sabotage mission. The Ministry of Public Safety of the Democratic People's Republic and Definitely Not a Theocratic Dictatorship of Ailistan said threats like this diner do not occur often, but the handfull of times they do are too often. Police have now issued a crackdown on bacon smugglers, and have issued a curfew to prevent criminals from traveling at night. All citizens are to stay indoors from the hours of 1 PM to 12 AM until further notice.

I did it because it was funny and it was a good way to make my stories make sense. Rootbear is doing it to continue on with the joke. rc1223 is doing it because he's a poser. I mean...rcakistan? First off that sounds so wrong. Secondly, pick a culture that hasn't already been taken...preferably you should be able to speak a little bit the language of the culture you are creating a parady of. Most of all, if you name your "country", provide a "news program" or atleast some type of funny story...otherwise you are missing the point.
-
Nah, just remove the max maybe. The new formula is great actually...UP has diminishing returns so that eventually it will get harder to increase it.
