  1. Basically, his lights are flashing because of the constant pinging of the zones at the main menu. Once he has hit "Play" the pinging stops, hench the lights stop. When he tries to enter the zone *because his player name starts with a non-alphanumeric character * he gets the "connection lost" message. And they don't start again until he hits 'OK' to the dialog box, which returns him to the main menu. The traffic lights dying is normal in this situation. Chose a proper playername to play.
  2. Make sure your PLAYER NAME in your profile starts with a letter or number... no odd characters.
  3. Yes, you need to save that file to the continuum directory... it should not be 'run' by anything. Again, I would suggest that you reveiw the link I provided... If you follow those instructions to a T, you should be up and running in no time.
  4. You need to create & use a new shortcut to the new .exe file for .39 Please refer to the following instructions: http://www.ssforum.net/index.php?act=Help&CODE=01&HID=18
  5. Agreed with SOS... My first instinct says DirectX. Secondly, video drivers, third audio drivers, and lastly, malfunctioning video/audio hardware.
  6. SSCI Halo,69.56.238.242,12001,,0 #Halo . You are the last of your kind. Bred for combat, built for war, you are the master of any weapon, pilot of any vehicle and fear no enemy. Fast paced flagging game.
  7. Yes this is a problem... the best way to cir!@#$%^&*vent the issue is not to force the update, but instead to allow the older client into the zone in spec mode only.
  8. Still unfamiliar with google.com searches? http://www.symantecstore.com/dr/sat1/ec_Ma...ODE=&CACHE_ID=0 http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Dest...4-10122137.html
  9. Mess with some of the advanced options for video. Try new video drivers.
  10. Reduce the amount of banners in your banner directory. Strange things can happen if you have too many.
  11. no offense, but I've been repairing computers for more than 8 years, and I've heard that an uncountable amount of times. Something changed. Whether it was a power outage, a porn web site, or a piece of freeware software that was installed... something happened. Find out what it was that happened and you can begin the repair process. As mentioned in your other post... beyond that, the only solution is a fresh format & re-install.
  12. When all else fails: norton antivirus 2006 (even a 15 day trial) + search & destroy. It has yet to fail me and I manage 50+ machines at work with dumb!@#$%^&* users.
  13. computers dont change based on the weather... you had to have done something that caused a change. What programs have you installed recently or driver updates, directx anything you can think of. Something had to have changed, what was it?
  14. what did you update recently?
  15. I've owned a computer for over 12 years now, and I have never used a real-time anti-virus/anti-spyware tool. My personal opinion is that they are unnecessary for people who know how to use their computers properly. The basic guidelines entail the following: Don't go to porn sites. Don't run anything from an untrusted source. You get what you pay for, meaning that if it is free, there is probably a price you will pay in another way. Your computer is a tool, treat it properly and don't load it up with useless or unnecessary crap and it will last you for a long time. Real-time popup blockers/anti-spyware and the rest are not needed if you are just smart with what you do. Un-install your 'protection' and follow the above guidelines and you shouldn't have any probs.

  17. This is usually a permissions problem. It could be a problem with the amount access your windows user account has (if you are not an administrator). If that is not the case, you can try to right click the Continuum folder, and check the properties. Click on "Read Only" until you see that there is NO check in that box. If still not functioning, then you can try to re-install Continuum into a different directory... when installing name the directory "Continuum2" or something.
  18. Try disabling each, one at a time, and seeing when Continuum runs without problems. That should confirm/deny your suspicions.
  19. Those sites are down from here, too.
  20. Make sure your playername doesn't start with an odd character... it should start with a letter or number (with a few exceptions).
  21. Just a couple corrections: The concept of the game is old, this build (Continuum) has only been around since 2001, and it was written from scratch, with no code ripped/shared/etc. from the original SubSpace client. Continuum39pr1 fixed the prox bug: http://www.subspacedownloads.com/history/continuum.txt In every scenario, this problem has been attributed to the local computer, not the game. Although users may claim that the game is at fault, things like customized/broken/hacked operating systems, ant-spyware/antivirus, or other local software has been the cause. Properly installed and updated drivers and operating systems will always run the game, which is why a re-install is considered the 'last resort'. But it will fix your problem, barring the above mentioned items (this includes hacked/unserialized versions of XP).
  22. Yep, it says that at the very top of the page.
  23. New video drivers and/or DirectX.
