The US has not had a true "right wing" party since Goldwater in 64, and has not had a true "left wing" party since 92. We now have the party of moderates vs the extreme right wingers. It's rather fustrating when you think of the nice things we could have if we had a little balance. As to the difference between European/American ideas of "wings", I feel this is due to American greed. About 50% of this country is unwilling to support any type of federal funded "welfare" (note the quotes), although everyone seems to love their Social Security. Whereas Canadian/European countries tend to have these benefits in place, thus their views of what cons!@#$%^&*utes left/right wing policies is different.

It never amazes me that people don't wonder how a 1000 page act winds up in front of congress 2 days after 9/11. 1000 page acts don't write themselves in 2 days. The sucker was planned, much like Hillary's 1000+ page long Health Care opus. I'd view discrimination at it's core as anything which violates the basic civil rights of all Americans as outlined in the DoI. Perhaps you've heard of them: Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. I seem to forget, there was this dude Jefferson who said they were unalienable rights from God or some such. Now, it seems to me that when someone gets married that they are quite happy when they do so, and they had to pursue the bride/groom for quite some time. Thus, it's an matter of denying a certain group the right to be happy because you personally find gay/lesbian sex disgusting. Which is wrong. And from a legal aspect, if you allow married couples to have federal tax breaks and such, not allowing gay/lesbian couples to wed is discrimination, for you are denying them certain rights under the law. Discrimination: Treatment or consideration based on class or category rather than individual merit; partiality or prejudice These couples have done nothing to lose the merit to be married and you know it, considering as 50% of this country's marriages end in divorce anyways. [off topic but useful: The reason you say marriage is SUPPOSED to result in kids is a christian belief. This is also why the pope will not endorse contraception. It's also why Bush advocates abstinance as the only sex ed.]

Marriage's religious aspect is highly overrated. It's main purpose, like everything after the Cons!@#$%^&*ution was ratified, is to define in a legal realm a human tradition. It is NOT a catholic tradition. Wiccans, African Tribes, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, lots of religions marry people. Remember, back in the day women had jack and !@#$%^&* for rights if the man decided to dump her !@#$%^&*. We inevitally evolved standards to the point where women have protection and in many cases keep the kids and get half the !@#$%^&*ets. There was also a time when interracial marriage was not permitted by most people, but we got over that (somewhat). Denying gay couples legal rights borders on criminally insane. Why do we not have this? Because Republicans like keeping the South as a voting bloc that they've had almost constant ever since LBJ signed the Civil Rights Act. The south tends to be majorly evangelical and likes this sort of thing. They also seem to think that people want to marry box turtles. If your legislator (Rick Santorium, R-PA) seems to think that people want to marry box turtles, perhaps you should consider this person as insane and elect another person to his seat . However, this man is a leading Republican candidate for the Republican Nomination in 2008. People know how much I dislike Bush, but dear god, even HE doesn't think people marry box turtles if you give them a chance. (PS: I do realize that some people MIGHT want to marry box turtles. These people have serious mental handicaps and can be helped by medication and asylums.)

I just took an enviromental class last semester. The largest reason the US cites, which I actually see some validity in, is that Class B countries such as China have no obligation to join Kyoto, only the Class A countries. Yet China is growing industrially by leaps and bounds, and by proxy their share of the pollution is too. Doesn't excuse us from trying to work out some kind of deal with China though.

He comes from a long line of pompous pricks (Just look at his mom and his brothers) including his Grandfather (Prescott Bush) who traded with Nazis; the proper term for the Bush Family amounts to "Northeastern Yuppies". -He ruined the first company he ever ran, Arbusto. -He screwed the city of Dallas/Ft. Worth as the owner of the Texas Rangers (though in his defence quite a few owners have screwed cities over stadiums). -He ruined Texas's pollution controls as gov. In the 2000 Republican Primary, his campaign insinuated that McCain fathered a black child. -He played up a vendetta against California to avoid giving them federal relief for wildfires and the Enron scandal until Arnold was elected. He used 9/11 as a photo op on MULTIPLE occasions. -He's putting us so far into debt that by the end of his second term China and Japan will literally OWN us by buying our debt. -Countries all over the world are converting their currency to the Euro standard. When OPEC does (coming soon) thanks to the new Iran oil market, guess how much a gallon of gas will cost? Hint, 1.3 Euros = 1 dollar. Guess why there's rumors we're going into Iran? -He sent us into Iraq under false pretext after a botched Afganistan campaign in which we have failed to build and maintain ONE ROAD in that country, much less any infastructure. Thus, the afganistan people have turned once again to growing poppies, so he's lost the drug war again. -He's on the wrong side of President Chavez of Venezuala, which ironically enough legitimately (and democratically) elected him once again. He gives the drug companies handouts by disallowing importation from Canada and not creating price controls. -He wants to amend the Cons!@#$%^&*ution to DENY a group of people the right to do something based on what scientifically amounts to a Fairy Tale (The Bible). This only happened once as we all know, Prohibition, also an idea cooked up by religious wackos that failed. (Look it up, it's in any US history book). -He has an Attorney General that sponsors torture, and a Secretary of State that basically bungled everything she touched in 4 years. -He has done everything but suck Evangelical Christian !@#$%^&*. -Creating a Social Security mess that has been said to be "More compex then Hillary's Health Care" -Backed out of Kyoto Protocol, then has the nerve to talk about Hydrogen Cars in a SOTU address -Allowing Fox News to suck his !@#$%^&*, which in turn caused MSNBC and CNN to follow suit. -Screwing with the free press in general, paying off journalists and restricting access if they write anything negative. -Turning Al Queda into a worldwide organization that now has more members then when he entered office. -Cutting Social Security benefits under his plan, when many seniors live in poverty as it is. Let's compare this to everything Clinton did wrong: - NAFTA - Being a Playa - !@#$%^&*uming Bush would pay attention to Richard Clarke in 2000. I think we can see why I personally hate the man. In 5 years we've gone from being the undisputed #1 superpower to a weakened country that is no longer the economic standard in the world thanks to the devaluing of the dollar and involved in a self defeating war.

I personally would like to see Laura Bush come into Newark and clean up the gang problem. Then I can sell her right arm on Ebay for a cool half mill. And naturally, Bush's White House has been bribing journalists (with money, what else?) to write WH-friendly puff pieces. This defines the media as GREEDY. It does not have a bias of any type, except to report in a fashion that will make it cash. That is why the NY Times has a liberal slant in NY state, which as we all know is % democrat. That is also why you see "Shock and Awe" news instead of real journalism anymore, murder and sex sell. Ah, I'd love to live in a time where the networks didn't require their news divisions to be profitable.
