  1. R.I.P. Was there a news article on this? Where did he live?
  2. Checking via download links is easier to spoof than through the game, though.
  3. 1. The thing is by merely checking IPs the system can be exploited as much as a banning system in Continuum. 2. What prizes do you plan the bot to give? Specific prizes for each zone (like a *prize 50 in an EG or a signature item in Hyperspace)? That probably wouldn't be universally accepted by all SSC zones, especially in the ASSS zones. Unless you are planning to foot some cash over... but then my above point will definitely take effect. 3. Granting a bot SSC Op to check IPs isn't necessary and probably wouldn't be even considered by the Council (assuming SSC has a central database that we don't know about). Instead, each zone can have their own bot spawn open that collects player data and writes/reads from a central database. But that of course would be a nice bandwidth waster and all zone owners would have to OK it (which is unlikely). Making the bot wouldn't be hard to do, but finding someone to bone out a few hours will be.
  4. ...Good point.
  5. Have you tried troubleshooting the problem on a different server?
  6. Oh, it won't go unnoticed. Or, as a nice compromise, the "helpful post" feature can be set to only work in Technical Support and Development forums while the "I agree" can be used in all other forums. But that's assuming this type of system will even work in IPB...
  7. I have a wealth of 17th stuff on my other computer in NY, but that's half a world away, so you won't be able to receive them.
  8. That's similar to my suggested merit system, but I'd think "I agree" would be too general and would only apply to certain topics.
  9. Based my assertion from the following quote.
  10. Yes, do it. You have my full support (idling via Chatnet).

I'll call AceSpades and SVS to get the Subspace Police on this matter, too.
  12. There's already a split between who gets to run the next DSB clone? This won't end well...
  13. Most likely the username has already been taken by someone else. Try registering a different name if you want to register a new name. If that is your name, however, and you lost the password, log on any alias in an SSC zone and type ?lostpassword username, where 'username' is the username with the lost password. That's assuming you filled in the proper email address when you registered the name. If the ?lostpassword command doesn't work because you didn't have a proper email address registered to that name, then refer to this thread.

    Ahem.

Personally, I'd think removing Rule #1 would make this zone more competitive and give less of a headache to staff from whiners in the zone, but it seems even if the curses are censored bans are still warranted (even if the person isn't a repeat offender, i.e. myself). So, what's the point of that fancy obscene module? Treating the zone as private property with players only able to play because you "allow" it doesn't seem like a feasible management system to me, but I know you were trying to get the subtle point of 'playing a game shouldn't be so political' across. It seems that this zone has gone from developmental success to unmaintainable failure. You guys used to develop so much in the past that players had much fewer problems than now, but unfortunately each of the developer's free time is limited so all you can do now is try to maintain some sort of balance, which apparently always fails. If serious development is not in the zone's future, then I'd say at least rewrite the rules to solve these silly problems that only Hyperspace seems to have.
  16. Ah, kudos to you then; I didn't know.
  17. Speaking of dd-wrt... I found this while curiously going through QoS settings. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v644/purgey221/dd-wrt-ss.png Seems as if someone wanted Subspace prioritized on their network. EDIT: It's hard to see, and I don't feel like resizing, but it says "subspace [0 ~ 0]" in the highlighted portion.
  18. Use them as headlights.
  19. I was saying the same things when I was banned at age 13/14. I'm not schizophrenic... or am I?
  20. I still didn't catch the part of "why" you're shutting the zone down...

    Chatnut

The whole site gives a 500 Internal Server Error for me. Your site's Chatnut is my only workable access to Continuum.

Lol, forgot you and Aceflyer are biochemistry geeks, too. Wouldn't know how to get a PDB entry, but I got the image from Google. It's a Zinc finger nuclease.
  23. Isn't there a grey color as well?
  24. But doesn't it extract everything? Everyone should have some form of an archiver these days, anyway.
