  1. people can be such isolationists. it seems like the at!@#$%^&*ude is secure our borders and !@#$%^&* everyone else. now I'm not saying we should be spending money abroad when it could be better spent at home, but the well being of mexico and canada do affect our well being (if mexico was as economically strong as the us then illegal immigration would disappear). The pact was hardly dissolution of the united states, lou just wants ratings and is willing to deceive to get them.

hey I was netbanned in January until next year for "hacking". Wtf... minimum ban is two months for that and they give me a year? what'd I do that deserves six times the minimum ban? help me sit!
  5. unless the dems screw up big time they should have an easy win this time around. My bet is 15% more popular vote for the dems.
  6. use PHP to ping the zone's ip address and parse the packet that's sent back
  7. temp file is more secure than command line parameters, or so I've heard
  8. looks good. It also crashes if you send a message before you connect to a zone. Add this to TForm1.FormCreate to load the data from a file (any maybe make it auto connect if you want) and get version 0.2 out and I'll get it into discretion. // load a data from input.txt !@#$%^&*ignFile(input_file, 'input.txt'); {$I-} // disable file io error check Reset(input_file); // try to open the file {$I+} // enable file io error check if (IOResult = 0) then begin Readln(input_file, input_name); Readln(input_file, input_pw); Readln(input_file, input_ip); Readln(input_file, input_port); CloseFile(input_file); Erase(input_file); Form1.UsernameBox.Text:= input_name; Form1.passwordBox.Text:= input_pw; Form1.HostBox.Text:= input_ip; Form1.PortBox.Text:= input_port; end; also, after I close it in Lazarus it says execution stopped and then this guy pops up. any idea?
  9. !@#$%^&* man that was boring. I could have made that with windows movie maker given all those video clips.
  10. are you kidding me?
  11. a militia sounds a lot like a gang
  12. I've used a gun for target practice, although I was awful at it.
  13. the point isn't that there will be suddenly 0 gun crimes the day we outlaw firearms. But it will be harder to get them. Do you think more people would use drugs if they were legal? of course! we need to weigh deterrence guns provide versus lives saved from no access to firearms. sort of like a police department? that's bull!@#$%^&*, the UK changed the way they measure gun crime since they enacted the law. If you stick to one method of measurement, gun violence has clearly decreased.
  14. Is there a port of ncurses on windows? Attach your source here anyway as it will be undoubtedly useful to someone
  15. Aha, good point. But I don't think that 50% of the Utah students carry around guns. What kind of reasoning is that? I don't go around doing a lot of things that some people do, for example going on shooting rampages. The law recognizes a difference between premeditated murder and manslaughter because people do kill others in fits of rage. If I don't have a gun handy I can't easily kill someone when I become really angry. Atheists make up 15% of the US population and 0.2% of the prison population; maybe we should outlaw religion . But seriously, I know it's in the cons!@#$%^&*ution. We're debating whether it should remain there, in its present form (I think?). It's a strange situation because I know that honest citizens aren't going to misuse their guns and it's fine for 99.9% of the people. It's just there's no 100% way of telling an honest citizen apart from a potential criminal (possibly years after he gets a gun). We try to do things like prevent mentally unstable people and criminals from getting firearms, but there are still people who appear perfectly normal and end up committing gun crimes.

  17. If 50% of the stuendent body at VT had guns, then more people would die because people would break up with their gf and be pissed and do something stupid.

  19. the holocaust happened in europe... why do the Palestinians get punished for it?
  20. Yeah I think the overrides is the way to go. However, a challenge still remains in that we're not always just setting a flat value we want to override with. For example, say the base speed is 1000. There's two "overrides", a damaged engines one with subtracts 200 from the speed, and a rocket override which adds 400. Using plain overrides the speed would be set to either 800 or 1400 depending on the priority, whereas the correct value is 1200. I don't think it's always as simple for every setting to just be able to add, subtract, and set absolute limits, (or use priority to just replace). But I'm having trouble thinking of a situation where this wouldn't work.
  21. Yeah good point. There are other non-lethal weapons that would do that, though. Like if you had a BB gun, people aren't going to come running at you; it might not even be possible if you start shooting. Pepper spray is a good one too, or even tasers. All those are fine crime deterrents, and, true, they won't work if the criminal has a gun to your face, but you aren't going to pull your gun out in that situation either since you might get shot.
  22. It doesn't even need to be linked to Discretion (it can be it's own executable). As long as it works without having to install a 30MB runtime environment I'll be happy. It would probably be passed on the command like the zone ip and port to connect to, and the username / password would be read from a file.
  23. I can't seem to find any chatnet clients that are open source and don't require any external dependencies (not java or python ect.) It would be nice to be able to connect to non-discretion-enabled zones using chatnet through Discretion. Perhaps this would be a nice project for someone to work on?
  24. I liked Barack's speech. But both Barack and Pat seem to be saying the same thing: "the status quo is not working". Neither seem to propose a solution, although addressing the problem a step in the right direction.
