    Blackhole

I remember reading something similar awhile ago. And in the article it mentioned the chance that a black hole could form. It was some very small chance that in probability has no real chance of happening, but it WAS there! I wish I had the article. On the note of black holes, my friend was following this group that wanted to launch a sateilite in space and test their machine that would supposedly make a black hole. I was shocked at how stupid that idea sounds. "Lets create a black hole in our solar system, yay!" I think that it's likely that we may destroy ourselves in the name of science. Atom bombs were created in the name of science after all.
  2. That kinda depends on what you actually need help with. It's questionable whether my particular skillset will of much use, but you never know!
  3. Actually, from reading most of your posts, I was given the impression that you don't like that C++ is even considered a good language. I apologize if it was wrongly implied. I did feel bad about that last line and almost edited it out, but I got the impression from you that you think java is simply better than C++. I've had that conversation (java vs C++) with many people so I prolly read too much into your arguments. I myself will, in general, pick C++ if there is no strong reason not to (which is ironic since I am heavily involved is using Groovy recently >.> <.<). Anyway! Sorry for becoming !@#$%^&*ly at the very end of that last post. I must have been reading too far inbetween the lines that gremlins came out and rearranged the words in my eyes. It has been known to happen. In fact, now that I read the posts again, I am not sure exactly how I got that impression. So don't ask me to cite it
  4. Java, C#, VB, etc. That really depends on your definition of what you consider convienent. I consider not being able to do pointer arithmetic very inconvientant, but having code generated for you being convienent. !@#$%^&* if you really want to talk about convienent lets go with not having to declare types unless you want to (i.e. python, perl, groovy, etc). Where I am replace C++ with Java and that is the at!@#$%^&*ude you get from people as everyone has been explicitly taught C++ cause they are required to take it, but those that scream about how great Java is are the fanboys and newbies who don't even know what a pointer is. You are very right about how in most situations you pick the language best situated for the project. And when that isn't a factor, you pick the one that you like the most, or that your boss wants you do use. But that doesn't give you room to spout how C++ is a worthles language compared to the "almighty java." They both have strengths and weaknesses.
  5. I conceed that point, I did make it seem in my initial post that everyone thinks it is boring. It IS however the verdict that was given to me by close friends and other people whose opinion I value enough to take into consideration, and thus was translated into my post. Also, I don't take much merit in the rating the review gives the game, but what they actually write about. Especially what they think a game excells at or does poorly at. edit: (I should really think of everything first!) Another review with good points source
  6. SVS, why do you think I told him in my original post to read reviews of it first. Not only that, I encouraged him to make sure that type of game iis his thing. I in fact enjoy RPGs, I have all of Baldur's Gate, Torment, Icewind Dale, and Septerra Core, Shadow Hearts, Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross, Lufia 1 and 2, many of the older final fantasy games to name a few. I was merely offering my opinion (heaven forbid), that it has been brought to my attention from a many people that the game gets very boring quickly. Does that imply that it will for him? No. I have never played it for any length of time so I cannot offer an honest review myself of why it becomes boring, and I will not try to. I just encourage him to explore it further before making a purchase. edit: I picked a review from your list of reviews. Here was the conclusion at the end, which I believe is presented quite well. source I will add that it is good to know what you expect from a game and what you want out of a game. Oblivion may have it's good and great points, but it also has its flaws and downsides. It isn't some god of all RPGs ever made. Is it a breathtaking to view (with the correct hardware) game? You can bet it is. Is it an amazing game? That is up to you to decide if it is for you.
  7. I just want to give a warning about buying Oblivion. Read reviews of the game first. Just about everyone I have talked to has come to a general concensus that while the game is absolutely beautiful to see, it is possibly the most boring game in existence (maybe not in existence, just put there for emphasis!). Just don't want you to waste money on it if it's not your thing. Graphics aren't everything, but that is really another topic.
  8. The point is you took that quote totally out of context. If you read the entire paragraph Polix wrote, you can tall that it was quite obviously sarcasm. But your feathers are so ruffled that you missed it completely. Keep in mind that I am addressing nothing else about what was said, whether it is good or bad or whatever, but that line you are using is out of context whether you see it or not. edit: so in other words calm down. getting upset and pointing fingers solves nothing.
  9. Appears to be working now. Do anything fancy?
  10. To continue on that, Ducky is absolutely right, what works for one child will not be guaranteed to work for another. However, does that mean there should be a government mandate making it illegal to spank your child? No, it does not.
  11. think something may have been borked in an update? any option to roll it back or maybe try to reinstall?
  12. It is not working for me at all atm.
  13. Are you playing over a wireless connection or a cable? If a wireless connection, have you tried connecting to the router with a cable and turning off your wireless card to see if it still disconnects you? Also, is your windows firewall turned on with the laptop? Or any other firewall that you know of? Anti-virus program you use? I don't think it would be the anti-virus program as that has never affected me. But windows firewall is something to turn off if it is on. If possible when playing type ?lag and post that that gives you when all the values are non-zero. And if possible post when message it displays when it disconnects you. Sometimes it gives a little bit of information. I'd like to help you more but I am no guru in this matter, just trying to help narrow down the cause to a point where I may be of real help, or to where others may be able to help you.
  14. As soon as I read that California law makers were trying to make that illegal, I was not suprised in the least. That has always been a bonkers state. But on topic, I am all for spanking. Yes there is a limit where spanking turns to beating, but there is already laws against beating your child (or at least I believe there is). There are often times when it is quite appropiate to take the stern corse of discipline, otherwise you can be left with out of control children that never learn a bit of respect.
  15. That reminds me, a zone I used to play in, the sysop would actually be afk a lot of the time, but not in spec. So we'd just go kill him alot. lay mines around him so when he'd get back he'd explode. Was quite fun sometimes =)
  16. Just a question for clarification. When you say you are in college using a college link, does that mean you are in one of the computer labs trying to play there? Or are you in your dorm room trying to play?
  17. Very shiny indeed. Will have to browse the zone!
  18. ooh shiny. Link the website. I'd love to help if it wasn't for the fact that this is going to be the most stressful semester of my life. Always liked playing in the complex.
  19. This sounds like the complex that 17th Parallel had. Curious if this is related?
  20. I'd like to start out first by saying I don't know you, or anything really about you. So don't take this as me saying what you personally believe. Here's an answer for you. You'd help the people of subspace because at some point in your life, the game was important to you. You actually liked it, cared about the game staying alive, or whatnot. And maybe a small part of you remembers that and wants to game to live on for future people to expereince it, maybe even future generations. Otherwise, you could just be another jack!@#$%^&* who thinks they are important and do nothing.
  21. That totally sucks. Dust is like cancer for computers though. You might try to pick up a can of canned air and really clean out the computer. Though now that you mention drywall dust, it's been awhile, but I think that stuff may melt when exposed to really warm temperatures since it's made up of paper and plaster and such. That could be the real problem there.
  22. lol that is awesome
  23. The reason I think it would attract so many players is that people are going to see it as a free game that they know nothing about. They are going to download it and try it if they are bored. They may not stay as regular players, but there is a very likely possibility that there would be a large influx. A couple have said that computers are a lot more powerful since then. That may be so, but do any of us right now really know the capabilities of the servers atm? Or that capabilities of the subgame and subbill and what not when it comes to a truely large number? If the people in control of said objects are not prepared for an influx, then it could be quite disastrous to the game and the reputation of the game as well. If all the zones suddenly crashed, people would not be very impressed. However, this is all a moot point if the game and servers can handle it.
  24. That's really a very good point that I was going to bring up if not previously mentioned. Even in it does get put up. That large of an influx would be a disaster to the servers. The adversting on small sites and word of mouth is the way to go. And truthfully Hoch, that was an interesting read that I could almost completely follow yay!
  25. I was trying to remember what I posted last. And then I remembered I never posted what I thought I posted while looking for something to post. Yep.
