Right. Logins technically working on the site, but no one will be able to confirm their nick in-game until I pass everything by hallu and setup the bot. -
Powerball league development and discussion
Marioman replied to Marioman's topic in Chaos / League Zone Archive
Updated the site with what I have so far, working on the web interface to join and manage squad rosters. Needs quite a bit more work on matches and scheduling. If you haven't already hit me up with any feedback or ideas for the league. Take a look: http://sspowerball.herokuapp.com/signin -
What is the incentive of joining a top tier Pro League squad?
Marioman replied to mindriot's topic in 4v4 League
When I transitioned from a non-proleague squad to proleague I did it because I was unsatisfied with my squad's (alpha reunion) activity at the time and also because I wanted to learn from the best since I was new to 4v4 and svs. Another nice benefit was the tougher competition and higher expectations inside and outside of the squad. Also a big part is, for me personally, I don't enjoy spaceships as much if i'm playing poorly or with/against other poorly performing players. -
Lol sleep deprivation and bold text or possibly mild retardation. GL today 7th!
-
Thanks pryde, glad my program was of use for you. How were these awards determined btw?
-
Tested streaming with some pracs today (http://www.twitch.tv/weasalss/b/552955294 - sins vs td.) Dunno if i'll stream finals, connections pretty shit.
-
Nice, looks high quality in my opinion.

If you can't find a solution to the problem maybe using a program like autohotkey might help. It'll let you set up a rule like Capslock::F6, which will press f6 whenever capslock is pressed.

http://powerball.subspace.co Post your ideas here! Let's be optimistic and hope this gets going .

I'm in agreement with what 7th said about double deaths and with regards to the ban but I think there should be some discussion on the story so it can be accepted without doubt. Personally, I would be totally fine with that rationalization of what happened if it looked like he could have narrowly escaped death in that situation. The second part is, if that happened, would people see the rep? I know when i've had the double death (not on LL) i have been able to shoot and other people have seen my bullets being shot from an invisible ship after. Again, just discussion.
-
Actually Ozn I was just trying to understand what happened so i can have a more informed opinion about the validity (or invalidity -- i'm not biased, this is ridiculous) of your ban. You'd have to drop the bomb that was shot to have any chance at living, and ploss/dropping damage occurs at a very minimal rate... so i can definitely say with confidence there's no way you should've lived there. (Nacre has a replay on his twitch account, mindriot linked it here) If you died on your client then there's a respawn timer where you can't do anything... if you didn't then the above makes more sense.
-
Haha. That bomb probably wouldn't have tk'd you if he repped before he died. Anyway, unless I'm wrong, the glitch where a player lives on their local client but the server calculates a death has been experienced by a multitude of players (myself included). I don't think it's possible to claim that's what happened here because there's no way he could've lived the damage that was dealt in that situation.

What I think is needed is to look to the future. I like this game, but it's more than a decade old. There needs to be a new subspace that uses the 15 years of progress gaming has made since it's been out (things like steam integration, friends lists, new graphics). That will be easier to market.
-
Hey pryde I'm using my program too along with OBS for streaming. Here are some random pracs i streamed the other day. http://www.twitch.tv/weasalss/b/542143632 Settings: Direct2D mode, captured @ 2560x1600 30fps, downscaled 1.5x, window capture. There was some jitter here and there, but i think i can do better if i lower res. pc: corei5 with integrated gfx.

2v2, duel, watch, find ways to get better. All of us have been beginners at this game some point and i'm sure all of us have been force capped away from. (Unfortunately?) it's part of the grind and subspace experience.
-
Ya. Let me ramble cause i like 7th's point. Sloppy because they might be impatient or if they don't care to try. And players can do things that will go unpunished that normally wouldn't... which is just not the way to get better. No use playing vs someone who's not able to finish a kill cause their aim sucks, in league you will be vs people who trap, team, and aim well; no benefit practicing vs people who suck.

Feedback from the first beta: someone got an error on Vista, another person was able to run D2D but the game would show a black screen when he'd get in a zone sometimes. If you have an issue find me in game and I will do my best to troubleshoot and fix my code. I don't do much error checking

Beta 2 is up. Looks great. Changes: Game looks normal now, except i made some things (radar, the scorelist, the map when you press alt), appear semitransparent (cool!). Notes: Bullet and shrap trails, along with stars in the background won't be shown. So you should disable those in Continuum's graphics. FPS will max out at your refresh rate. Taking screenshots won't work in D2D mode. On the performance side of things, code is messy, there are minor optimizations and clean up i will eventually get to.

Nude, i'll try alt-tabbing a bit to see what you're talking about but i believe the behavior you're referring to might be a side effect of how i coded it. (It might not idk) But to explain why there's even a "chat support" feature... what normally would happen with alt-tab was: you alt-tab while in-game to chrome... and BOOM, the chat window pops up infront of chrome. I was constantly annoyed by that so i messed around to get it like it is now. Anyway, i worked on Direct2d. Bad news: people who complain about fonts - there may not be any improvement at all. I checked side by side, and (at least for me on win8) directdraw was using linear interpolation to scale the game... which is the same way it'll be scaled with Direct2D. Good news: using direct2d to render the game massively improves performance and can potentially lead to more stuff down the line like replacing everything with vector gfx. I tried doubling my resolution from 2560x1600 to 5120x3200 and the game was still running at 60fps vsynced. And without using d2d the game managed 21 fps. New (BETA) version is uploaded. Changes include (but aren't limited too): new tray icon, slightly touched up settings ui, fixed a bug where the game would crash using mouse aim, new direct2d rerendering option. Please test it, it's beta cause i haven't tested it much and some things are still not perfect with the direct2d rendering.

Hey so talked to hallu about this, he suggested verifying and generating interest by having powerball events run regularly (Sundays after matches). I won't be able to play atm but please try to have these happen. I had another suggestion to get player's emails from prior leagues (in the powerball zone)... which I never followed up upon. Hope to eventually get these from Stag Shot. As for the technical side of things, I think i messaged Underlord in game for the powerball bot code. And the league site is in development. If anyone has any way they'd like to contribute... just say so! Thanks.

Merit in candyman's idea. Do it. With regards to the rest, sadly some players will get excluded because of the skill gap, which I've told you a couple times B-hole. Sometimes teams that win don't want to "play" vs 4 people with 800 erat who lob and have 4 wr each. Solution? Go 2v2 with your guys, or 3v3, or try to watch the pro level players and learn from them. Think that sums it up. Lotsa dickwaving tho in this thread. *waves his dick a bit*

The biggest complaint that i've gotten from people who use this program is that the resized fonts are terrible. This is true because the scaling algorithm that directdraw uses sucks. [DirectDraw is the graphics api (things like opengl, directx) from like the stone ages (pre-2001?) that continuum is using.] However, a recent message gave me the idea that I could take the game image and repaint it to the screen using DirectX11 with an improved scaling method. I'd have to implement it to see how it effects performance/latency... but it could be something i release down the line.
-
I can't guarantee, but resizer uses .NET 4 and other windows APIs which are supported by Wine. Try and report back

Is there interest in a powerball league? I and maybe some others can volunteer to run it and maybe at least fix underlord's botcode in ?go powerball.

This thread is fun but kind of sad cause no one will ever see these epic teams happen. I've never seen half the players listed play spaceships .
