Yes Monte, the VETO it's certainly a problem, and it must be revoked. Why doesn't anybody investigate how many times the USA has vetoed resolutions regarding Israel? how can you force Irael to comply, when the USA doesn't let the UN do its job. -nintendo64

First off, War Crimes are just called upon the "loser", and also i forgot to mention the US ignored those War Crimes committed. Credentials or no, i believe he forgot the why, which will be understandable since he doesn't wants to bring up the "-*BAD WORD*- ups" as you call them. -nintendo64

Yes. i agree on one thing, Terrorism is a problem that must be dealt with, but not by the current methods. Education it's the main key to fix any problem a country may have. If the USA used those billions into educating the Iraqi people, instead of blowing them up, something positive might come out of this, teach them how to work in the Free Market. Yes, also, the USA cannot defeat terrorism alone, they must fight the terrorism cells and educate the "Rogue States' people" throught international organisms such as the UN. You know if you were poor and hungry, and you saw some rich guy eating a delicious piece of meat, you'd wish that was you, but don't you think some people might go as far as killing for that? or at least stealing?. Terrorism exist because of something they WANT, but do not have. A peaceful deal can be made with them [think of it like teaching you to get a delicious piece of meat]. -nintendo64

I'd just like to point out, the writer of this article clearly is missing some historic facts. Specially those about US funding and supporting of Iraq in the Iran-Iraq War, US knew what Iraq woul do (War Crimes), also CIA training of Bin Laden to destroy the Soviet's social system in Afghanistan leaving that country in the Chaos of tha Taliban. There's a lot hidden in the Kuwait-Iraq War, that the author just ignored and kept going to make his "point". I won't keep reading this... It's clear the author ignored the WHY behind the same Rogue States he kept mentioning on and on. The knowledge to make weapons? what's this some joke? do you know where that knowledge came from in the first place? that's right from the West. It's amazing what people will say to justify the Iraq Invasion as Fighting Terrorism. In my opinion, the Afghanistan War was acceptable, considering the USA people were angry and wanted blood, but the Iraq War, that's just pushing it too far. What people is missing, it's the How? and Why? in the Rogue States. Why Iraq became a Rogue State? How they got their WMD?. Why Afghanistan became a rogue state? How the ruling group got their support?. Why Cuba haven't changed in the past years? How is it possible for 40 years they still have a trade embargo?, etc... Why doesn't anybody asks that? Maybe people'll say i'm living the past, but it's pretty obvious who created those problems, it's amazing that after the countries in the area suffered the consequences, when that same country got hit in his homeland, the administration started a full scale war against "terrorists" undermining its people's freedoms Patriot Act and the target countries Sovereignity. Now to look on the bright side, at least something positive might come out of this, like making another developing country [iraq] with all its main infraestructure privatized [Owned by Foreign Companies], but at least the quality of life [sweatshops] will go up, i guess they won't suffer the UN Blockaed [killing thousands] or the constant US-UK Air Bombing. -nintendo64

Now, i ask what are the reasons supporting another Bush Presidency? (besides the Pope supporting and the religion blah blah) think about imperialism, think about the budget, think about the diplomacy. -nintendo64

Monte, Maybe the problem with society is that they don't want to make the choices, maybe because there's the responsability factor or any other weight they have to take. People these days want to be told what they have to do, and they will follow it blindly, maybe that's why religion has endured all these years. Yes this topic went a little off, but it did prove that humans need to start being critical about their leaders choices and more importantly see how it will affect everyone not only them. Ah, and please acknowledge that religion has no place in politics. -nintendo64
-
I will like for the insults to go to a minimiun please, i believe they are getting out of control. -nintendo64
-
Actually, i like the turn this topic has taken. As i understand the people of the USA will support a President just because he is catholic and/or The Pope supports him, i don't see religion as a important factor to qualify an individual for President. George W Bush, probably, knows this and he's using it. -nintendo64
-
The Pope shouldn't have a say in politics, if he has a say in politics then every other major figure of others religions should have a say too. Also, Stop trying to force your beliefs into someone else, I hate it when people believe in some kind of religion and believe everyone else should follow it, what is this? the middle ages? i though we were over that period. Nobody cares if you believe a pancake is your God, as long as you don't obligate everyone to follow that same pancake. Freedom of religion is a very important aspect in a country, and which that, what Live has said is truth. The President should be impartial to all religions. I didn't know George W Bush mentioned God and all the christian faith in his speeches, that's reason enough for me not to vote for him if i was from the USA. -nintendo64

Remember Aileron, You judge yourself by your intentions, but People judge you by your actions, the same holds true for countries. -nintendo64

My family is from Spain, we left Spain because of Franco's Dictatorship and went to Cuba, then we left because of Castro and went to the Dominican Republic. I was born in the DR, but i live a western-style version that's very similar to the one you can find at the States. My english writing skills are fine, but my pronunciation needs to improve. I was just rambling about Freedoms in the DR, but that belongs in another topic !@#$%^&*led "Freedom in Third World Countries". -nintendo64

I was expecting a reply along those lines, i mean what can you get one when someone keeps pointing out why do i hate their country, even thought i am just criticizing what's wrong with it. In our "1/2 dismal island" we can openly criticize the goverment, and we won't be called (From Year 2000 and on) "hippies", "communists", "undominican" or "antidominican", in fact the worst it could happen is getting silenced by the goverment, not something to brag about , but people do speak out and are not labeled (as "enemies" of the state) by society. -nintendo64

Watch the movie "Born on 4th of July" (1989) for details. -nintendo64

What it's the REAL problem? can't you USA citizens handle criticisms? can't you aknowledge the errors in your country as well? if you cannot, then you're living the blue fairy tale. Remember, love your country great features and try to fix the errors, loving your country blindly isn't going to do good to it. -nintendo64

I am sure the US Media just acts like any Capitalism-based bussiness we got to put out the product that sells, and that product is the news that people watch, it is morally wrong (Christian Principles Context) because as long as the Pay Check comes in everything is fine. Of course, sometimes events that were ignored grow enough to be reported, but it falls on the first principle, that's the current news that produces money. Note: Not necessarily only US Media, any media for that way, most industrious countries have to give the citizens their propaganda food to appease them. Also, the US Press is not ranked very high (World's Free Press Context) for a country with so much "freedom". -nintendo64

Let's not make this a Democrats vs Republicans debate... As for Affirmative Action, what do you people think? if it against the same principle it was founded/applied? does politics correctness call it good and right, even thought it's racism towards white people? How many cases do you know of a black student or a white student getting support or not because of the color of his/hers skin? Interesting essay about Affirmative Action http://www.nationalreview.com/comment/comm...adt030501.shtml -nintendo64

Aileron, i cannot dissmiss your claim about US in Iraq, because the US could have wanted that too!, just as you cannot dismiss mine, so the reasons could be both. I'll just leave it a there's always an economic factor in all invasions, be it Oil now, Secure Oil Trade in the future [Compliant Iraq Democracy] or whatever you're aiming at. As for Spain Situation here in the American Continent, i want YOU to research about how countries such as Cuba gained their independence from Spain, and in a small period the USA [sometimes even before their Independence] was interested in colonizing them. Also i want YOU to research about Sugar Production in Hawaii, this pacific island became what USA wanted with the main islands [Cuba, Hispaniola and Puerto Rico] in the Caribbean. -nintendo64
-
First off in the Caribbean USA interests were sugar, go research about sugar prices at that time.... Why do you think countries such as Dominican Republic were 1 on 1 with the dollar, thanks to their sugar industries?. Now Aileron has made some good points, but i find it rather "baseless" just spend few billions to ensure "support" in the Middle East. Read the PetroDollar essay posted by A Soldier, and also British Petroleum is an UK based company, aren't UK and US are allies? no, reason why British Petroleum research will be biased. 1 Reason that doesn't agree with the idea of "Project Iraq Democracy", it's that US Multinationals are the ones extracting the oil, not National Iraqi Companies, and of course that there were problems in Iraqi Oil Trade before the 2003 USA Invasion, to change the Trade to be favorable to their companies. USA PetroDollar being dumped for Euro. http://www.ratical.com/ratville/CAH/RRiraqWar.html 1991 Gulf War Oil Income for USA http://www.krysstal.com/images/democracy_iraq1991.jpg Problems in Iraq Oil Trade with Foreign Companies [including USA], dated in 2002 The Iraqi Oil Market it's not looked favorable by these companies. http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn?p...9¬Found=true -nintendo64

Exactly. The potential of the Middle East supporting us is much more valueble than the oil Iraq has. It IS the objective. The support and the presence of a 1st world democracy in the Middle East is much more valueble than the small amount of oil Iraq has. If this were Saudi Arabia, maybe you would be right, but given the smaller amount of Iraq's oil, the support would be more valueble. Since the support is more valueble, it is likely that the support is the objective. BTW, The US has been known to just give large amounts of money away just to help out smaller nations. Its stupid, but we do it sometimes. I know we didn't do that in Latin America, but we do just hand out money in a lot of cases. Please Aileron, you do have a point, i agree with certain arguements, except Oil was probably the main reason, because according to British Pretoleum research of Iraq oil fields (dates 2002).... Research what British Petroleum said, on the internet, it must be on their site. About The Aid: Yes some of the aid, it's actually for help, like the Aid we got for our Water Flood. -nintendo64
-
So Aileron, after Iraq is converted into a compliant democracy supporting the West, the USA will leave it alone? do you think the idea was just invest for support in the middle east?..... Of course not, that might be a consquence of what the US is planning, but not an objetive, there is no country in the world that'll throw few billions for "support".Actually, the US is looking for more than that, specially putting some US Multinationals to extract the oil, which will be cheaper, probably just a rent fee for the terrain (which will be very low, considering the compliant goverment and Iraq's state of economy). Does someone care to analyze Gulf War on 1991, and then look at 2003? -nintendo64

Quote me on 15 posts when i say i hate the USA, because TO YOU pointing out where a system is failing equal hate. I've never denied any other country has problems, but that's not what we were debating in those topics, or what i was debating in those topics. Tascar labeling your opponents as haters, and then making !@#$%^&*UMPTIONS about my history books, it's what you were saying about me being ignorant to your country's affair. I never !@#$%^&*umed you were ignorant to mine, but you've yet to support your point with facts, instead of rhetoric. Why don't you just accept the facts and live on? or do you expect your country to be a blue fairy tale?, if i was an USA Citizen and i knew as much as i did now, i'll try to make a difference, at least in the easiest form i can, by Voting for someone of a Party or which political career has been set to produce a fix to those problems. For Extra Info: Our History books are not exactly "standard books given" [Althought it has been tried] most teachers decide to use different books about 3-4 from different authors, and we get photocopies, sometimes the authors clash on opinions, i remember once, there were two that talked about the Trujillo Dictatorship, one was in favor (it made a very persuasing arguement), and one was against, you could obviously detect it by seeing the author's intention. Books bias is not exactly a problem here, our problem is Education distribution, and the quality given to most of the population, but that's another topic. -nintendo64

I agree with Feit!, POST REAL ARGUEMENTS with info to back them up. Yet i've seen even one backed with facts, only phrases like "you're ignorant on this topic", "you hate the USA", "you are dumb".... -nintendo64
