At some point you will be able to choose ship color options, but that is latter down the road a bit. You will also later be able to select a stock ship through the client launch application with different colors and then once you are in zone you can select a zone specific ship and colors. But you wont be able to 'paint' the ship, but instead choose from a supplied gallery of ships either from the zone or from the stock ships in the game. With that said who knows what we will add in beta. The server text there is just to test the messaging system and will be changed. Rock on:)

Tiz outdated but what happen when you ran it?

Thanks, I will get the last alpha out the beginning of next month and then begin beta the following month. That's the plan anyway. Basically I want to get a good foundation going with alpha and the start adding features onto it with beta. - Rich -

Thanks Here is a full screen image of the map used in the above video. http://www.phoenixusc.com/Personal_Post_Data/update_022413.png

Static Background (best to watch) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXh6wn8qseI Tiled Background http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lyhaG3_sJog&feature=youtu.be Hi, I have uploaded 2 videos the first shows a local and remote ship on a fixed static background (planet) and the other show a tiled background. I had to convert these videos so the aspect is a little off but they show the game engine in action. The new map will be a CTF (capture the flag) style game for testing sort of like Trench Wars. I have added con trails (exhaust) for both local and remote ships. This looks very cool when you have many ships with different con trials. The same particle effect can be used for bombs or rockets or any other any other use where a trailing tail is needed. The first video shows a local and remote ship showing the networking is functioning fine. Here I'm actually playing through the server and a client, a feature I may keep for smaller home servers where a smaller number of players is used (say 32). The idea here is one application can function as a client or special single server. With that said a dedicated server (100+ players) is the way to go and will get first development support. So I'm hard at it and it is all looking good as far as development. Keep an eye toward the beginning of next month for the release of the last alpha in which we will be able to play a CTF style game with at least two different ships and weapons. After that the beta development phase begins. BTW, on video one check the end out I have added walls to fence off the zone sort of like you might see in DSB. Regards, - Rich -

http://www.phoenixusc.com/Personal_Post_Data/cla_0129.png This forum displays images a little low quality (stretched) . The App is much cleaner. A better image here. Hi, This is an image of the changes to the client launch application. I have added a script file that you can change to use different textures to skin the application. The app will automatically resize textures, but it's best to use the size of the default textures. I will be adding text fields (GUI element) today and should have a new version of the app up tomorrow. It will also be loading a mock server list and I should have the graphics driver/resolution GUI elements in place as well. If that all goes well the next step is to start testing the client server. Zone Ads Zone ads are a way for zone server operators to advertize their zones and link to their zone web sites. Zone ads are a way to generate revenue for the game and enhance the zone server program (more on that later). Back to coding. - Rich -

I could and I may as that texture seems to work pretty well aside from the low resolution. All the buttons and GUI components automatically re-size a given texture to fit. What color for text did you have in mind? There are three colors used for buttons, display, highlight and select(ed). - Rich -
-
Hi, I'm sure it's because I'm using one texture for buttons, list box and more. I will add a text file you can edit for all that. Basically you will be able to set the texture, color and alpha (transparency) for the list box, buttons and sidebars. I'm thinking a format something like this. <buton_texture>mytexture.png <button_color_red>255 <button_color_green>255 <button_color_blue>255 <button_alpha>1.0 The idea here being easy to parse and use. For now the layout will not be configurable. I'll try to work on this today. - Rich -

Hi, I have a version of the client launch application up here: Phoenix USC Board http://www.phoenixusc.com/board/showthread.php?tid=29# Direct Link http://www.phoenixusc.com/phoenixusc_apps/Client_Launch_App_3.zip This version is testing news feed, zone ads, zone server listbox and general GUI components. For now you can access the 'News', 'Zone Servers' and 'Exit' buttons as well as ship select. Testing this will let me know if there are any issues with TCP networking and interface. I should also add I am only using one texture for the skin so the look will be better a few versions down the road. Thanks for testing. - Rich -

Hi, That maybe so. I am really looking for a logo I could use as part of a banner or other type of application. Something portable so I can place on the main webpage or board as well as adds. But I am open to suggestions here. Edit - I had intended to use the logo and include Phoenix Universe of Space Combat or Phoenix USC alongside it. Not good? - Rich -

Hi, I have the new message board up and running well. Aside from a few tweaks it is ready to go and I happy with the features and support it will provide. I'm going to leave the webpage (non-message board) with the one main page for now and shift to coding Phoenix USC. I'll catch the webpage up as soon as I have Phoenix USC's last alpha test finished. I've posted in the work log here with the basic time table and plan for going forward. Things are going pretty smoothly and it will not be long before beta testing begins. - Rich -

I believe your in the wrong forum

The plan. Hi, I am planning on releasing the final alpha version on or about 2/25/13. Along the way I will release the client launch application for testing and then release both the client launch application and the client for testing on the server. Once that's all done the beta phase of development will begin and I will maintain a server here during that time. I will for a select group allow other servers to be running. During the beta phase most of the features that have been requested will be added as well as further development of the game. You can think of the the alpha as the basic bones/core of the project as being in place and the beta where I start adding the more advanced features. So I will have the client launch application up shortly and then from there things should start to move more swiftly. Lots to do but I expect to have several servers up and running with different custom maps during beta. This makes life a little hard for me as I will have to improve the map editor but it's really not to far off from a beta status as well. Once the map editor is out there it should be a lot of fun for those running servers. I'll keep you posted, but look for the client launch application very soon, then client/server alpha testing right after that. - Rich -

I'll try to send her a PM. Thanks Here some examples I liked. http://www.phoenixusc.com/Personal_Post_Data/logos.jpg

I have added a user page feature ( part of a users profile page ) to the message board. You can just type in a message or use HTML as I have done here: http://www.phoenixusc.com/board/member.php?action=profile&uid=1&area=userpage It's a neat feature and you can add in video, images, off site links and more via HTML. This feature is available through the User CP (control Panel). This with he albums feature really make it easy for users to promote their servers or whatever through a users profile. This should provide a good level of support for Phoenix USC. - Rich -

http://www.phoenixusc.com/images/logoart.jpg Art by Nick Sheets Hi, I thought it would be a cool Idea to start a friendly logo art competition for Phoenix USC. All I can reward the winner with is the credit, but you will be immortalized in the Phoenix USC credits. I'm looking for a logo featuring a phoenix (bird). Something I can place here and there and on the main page so it should be at least 200 x 200 (maybe 150 x 150) pixels in size. No deadline here, when I see one that is a clear winner I'll let you know. Thanks, and have fun. - Rich -

Hi, Added plugin to let users list their social sites in stat/avatar. Added a info sidebar that very cool. I've also been installing spam and account misuse plugins. Almost there I think. Looking good. I also added banner images for profiles. Way cool to advertize your zone. Added a profile album plugin so you can keep images in albums and use in post. Others can even comment on them or browse them; super neat. - Rich -

Hi, I added a chat system to the message board, so users should be able to chat using the white bar at the bottom and clicking on the (+) icon. I also added instant notification of private messages via popup notifier (non-invasive). @witness I will maintain a presence here and there. I need to setup a board to help manage my site for downloads and other information. The decision to make a site is base in part on the fact that for Phoenix USC to be legitimate it has to have its own site as well as everything potential gamers would expect to have, a message board being one. I guess this is the moment in which Phoenix grows up to be a real game. I really want to give this project the best chance to be successful. In today's world that means a slick site and message forum as well as a first class game. I have gone to some length to establish a presence in social media services now supporting most of them including RSS Feeds. Supporting all these media points is a key strategy in extending Phoenix USC's reach. This forum supports many but not Facebook, RSS Feeds and others. We have a great group here but I want to reach out to as many as I can and provide a comforting presence by way of an anchor website. I also need to establish a form of revenue to help defray the costs of development. Establishing Phoenix USC's site makes this job easier. Since I am seeking donations I'm going to need all the help I can get. Typically people donate because they want to support your game. Providing donors with with essential support and services goes a long way in winning them over. So all this is just first steps toward what I hope will be a longer journey toward a very successful game. I should add that I am doing what I can to bring users here as well. The community here is key to making Phoenix USC a success. Until Phoenix is firmly in a beta phase Subspace/Continuum and subpace.co are really the only game in town. This why I will continue to make this forum my home as it has been for sometime. - Rich -

MyBB really is a neat board system. I have plugins so members can share with FB, G+, Linkedin, Twitter, Technorati, Digg, MySpace and Delicious. That's just too cool!

I have a bulletin board system up and going using MyBB. It's not bad and I think I have a cool theme going. http://www.phoenixusc.com/board/index.php Edit - I also have the menu links refer to this page for now. - Rich -

Re-rendered the left side ship. I think that is close to getting done. A note on feedback and recommendations. I read everything that gets posted here and for the most part and take it all in. But as busy as I am there is just no time to really get into the details of a particular suggestion and or recommendation. This thread is a good example of feedback and results. The Phoenix USC website started off like this " http://www.phoenix.subspace.co/test/ " but has ended up to be currently this " http://www.phoenixusc.com/ " ; the result in-part of feedback. So you only have to look at the before and after example here to see that I've been listening. I really do like feedback and when good spirited it can get great results. - Rich -
