    elim

An elim arena would be really fun. Doesn't need to be fancy, just have ffa and random team elim. We had a 4v4 bot, but that required 8 players so it was rarely used. Maybe adjust the 4v4 bot to allow smaller teams?

    new hires

Agreed. Some of his bases are fruity but I like the variation, and rotating bases make flagging interesting (for once). Spidernl and Namp are okay hires. I don't think they've always been the most mature, but they do their jobs. Who the heck hired Playwolf? Echoing: And, I'd also like to see WT / Rutrow as mod.
  3. Energy scanner makes more sense as an emitter To nerf it, just include a -1 energy attribute

    Changes

Oh, and please get rid of the new structure in bottom right center. It's confusing and the new features don't add anything to the map. No to op2's minibase, but I like the idea of murderholes for firing into center. +1 for fr in minibase Like I said, I miss the first set of bases. They were great because they were so open. Being able to maneuver, dodge, and dogfight inside bases felt great. Please consider bringing some back. The newer maps are beginning to look like the set we had last reset.

    Changes

I miss b2, b4, and b5 from the mapset here: http://forums.ssgn.net/index.php?showtopic=24951 They were really fun bases, the ones that replaced them seem awful plain. Current b3 is confusing and overdecorated, IMO Center is better than the last, but lots of odd structures -- maybe replace one of the structures with an asteroid field? Nobody bothers wandering into the field at top, and asteroids would make an interesting dogfight environment
  6. I thought it'd fit the theme of shutting down the enemy weasel uses EMP
  7. On the topic of ice fields... I'd like to see a "snag" bomb that engine-shutdowns upon impact. It'd be a neat concept for a nonprox, signature, weasel-specific bomb.

    League sign ups.

if this ever gets going then count me in
  9. oh cool, I remember these. B3 + 7 were popular picks

    New Map

How about changing center up a bit?
  11. I like this one more than the your newest revision posted here: http://forums.ssgn.net/index.php?showtopic=24951 Center looks great... right now it really needs a change, and I like your new layout. I like b6 and I think it'd be cool to see some old bases (ice base, old b1, some really old bases even) make a comeback. I hope staff considers putting your map to use
  12. Well said. I feel the same about prox. During league, teams usually included a proxed jav. These javs also held the highest kill count per match. Yet proxers get alot of hate because their shots hit. An impact-bomb jav may pack a punch but no matter how good they are, they can't give chase. As long as you don't follow them, they don't pose much of a threat. Multi is great for pressuring at range and producing volume (filling the screen) but lack dps for close range. It really encourages defensive, run-away play. The signature gun "sharppinger" throws nearly as much volume as gauss without this caveat. Mass driver is insane, too. In the end I suppose it comes down to building around your playstyle

    DuelBox

It's a closed box to duel in. Most zones have a map with several dueling boxes in their ?go duel arena. Our duel map simply follows the layout in center, which is too wide for 2 players. It's also too easy to run/hide in. This problem is especially visible when players duel for $$.

    bump. We're still interested
  16. You're thinking too hard. League simply provides an outlet for competition apart from the everyday flag-game. Working in teams also encourages players to share their strategies amongst squadmates. Whether you enter league for fun OR to prove yourself is entirely up to you. Now if we could just get it kicking...
  17. We run league for the sake of our own entertainment. Which team "kills the other teams better" boils down to the results of a match. Despite all the moaning over OP equipment last league, I felt everything ran smoothly. Your team dynamic is more important than anything else when it comes down to winning.
  18. Definitely an option. But seeing how we can't even get duelbox restored (despite requests), I wonder how long that'd take. I propose we work with what we have.
  19. I still propose 1-death spec for convenience's sake. I already explained in the "Reviving League" thread as to why. It's standard gduel protocol, after all. My idea was to use standard dueling rules in a ladder; that way, we could run a league regardless of whether or not we're given staff backing or mod powers. Your current outline (the 5 deaths part) requires a ref with mod powers or a new bot. By keeping rules simple, we can focus on advertising and scheduling. If you want to make this work, gauge the population's interest, and figure out how you'll fit (and keep) everything together. Remember that a handful of groups is sufficient so long as they're dedicated. I suggest you start by posting a schedule. Anyway.. I'll draft my own outline once I get the time. I wouldn't mind trying my hand at running a simple league. Brain has allowed players to Paypal donations in for HSD. I would gladly pitch in fifteen or so dollars for grand HSD prize.

    Reviving League

I was planning to draft all procedures and proposed schedule in a new thread. However I'm busy until next week's end, so if nobody else steps up I'll start then. In the meanwhile, it would be nice to have Namp's map put back online.

Seconding this. It's not a difficult request, either.

    Thors

I wouldn't mind seeing a minor price hike and #thors dropped to 3. I'd hate to see them nerfed too much, tho. Thors are one of the best tools for retrieving flags from a runner. They are already counter-able via armor and reps.

    Reviving League

The rules I posted are standard dueling conventions, add the timer and multiple players. I'd like to keep these rules on a familiar basis. The 6 minutes for time is just a guess. In any case, time limit is needed to pressure losing teams to fight rather than run. For sake of simplicity, I say lagout = eliminated. Each round is only one life per player and warping NME back into spawn in might throw off the opposition's dynamic. I like this system because it does not require eight players run matches. A team short on players might be at disadvantage, but leaders can decide to organize 3v3 or 2v2 upon agreement. Regarding the squad requirement: forcing it may leave some with no choice but to leave a dead squad or to jump squads. Not everyone is willing to do that. As I said, squadding should be encouraged rather than forced. I'm thinking of a prize bonus for squad-based teams. To encourage attendance, I suggest prizing $10K to winning participants after each ladder match. Of course, there is grand prize for 1st place. The loser's ladder, if organized, would sport a lesser 1st place prize. Not sure what to do about strays. Maybe organize some world vs. team X event to satisfy them?
  24. Unpopular weapons can benefit from the added versatility of multfire. Two examples are arcfire and gigajoule. Not too long ago, someone suggested changing gigajoule into a shredder-like weapon. Having a berserk mode "multifire" option seems attractive. Arcfire could benefit from a disruptor-like fire mode. For reasons of balance, extreme options (shredder + beam for example) should stay out. However, in HS, multi carries no penalties. I think players should be awarded for using the single fire option. Might I also suggest tweaking multi settings to combine similar weapons (gamma/pulse, pea/beam) As to why anyone would want to use a hybrid... it's to allow them to adjust to their situation. A beam/shredder warbird can pressure an opponent at range yet still carry enough 1-barrel firepower to stop a rush. Of course, to retain balance, the gun should remain inferior to both shredder and beam. Above all, doesn't it just sound fun?

    Reviving League

Don't worry about balance. It isn't possible to achieve nor is it the point of league. I can't see randomized teams working; they would not have the motivation to adhere to schedule. I don't agree with limiting squads, either. It only makes sense that larger squads hold a heavy presence. Capping numbers might hold back players who'd otherwise participate. We could throw the squad requirement out and let players form their own teams. However, I think people will better organize under squad leadership. More than that, HS squads will finally have a reason to exist. Here's my suggestion on rules. I'll try to keep it simple: -MAX teams of six. <6 team is OK at inherent disadvantage. Same squad encouraged but not required -Matches are 4v4. <4 team is OK at inherent disadvantage -Namp's League Map OR gduel -Ships 1-2. NO techs, NO consumables. Mines, stealth, X, AW are A-OK. -Spec-on-death elimination. Each match is first to five; win by two. Best of 3 matches. -Lag spec or D/C is equivalent to elimination for that round. -Timer at 6 minutes per round. Team with most remaining players gets point. Draw=NC No bot is needed to keep score, but there should be a ref to oversee and announce/spec/lock. I haven't thought about the matchup system, but I think a simple ladder is appropriate. I'd also like to run a "loser's ladder" to give early-outs another chance. Advertising and scheduling all this is a whole other beast
