  1. i'm sure out of the "thousands" of people who experienced what i experienced at the border, at least one, or a few, made a big deal out of it. did that do anything? no, because it happened to me. wtf is making a big deal out of what happened at the border gonna do for me? ummm, let's see... a $300 fine + any other shit they wanted to pin on me. remember, it's THEM against me. why would i wanna put myself in more trouble to speak up and become an advocate? i just don't care. lol. i just didn't say anything and i went on my way. saying something would've never made a difference. ok, yes, i'm a selfish person because i don't care to fight for other peoples' rights... sorry, i couldn't sit there after reading about this muslim family, and think of a solution to prevent this type of racism from ever happening again, and wasting my time that i could be using to work and support my son, wasting time that i could be spending with my son and watching him grow. yep, i'm selfish. because i'm SURE, that if i start making a big deal out of it, SOMETHING will happen, because i have the power, right? lmao, you guys are nothing but a joke.

  3. first, how is my opinion based on a "selfish" approach? LOL. this doesn't surprise me because everything i've ever said, you have all loved to disagree with me anyway, which is pretty funny. how could they NOT know that their comments would be taken the wrong way? it's called COMMON SENSE. like thunderjam mentioned earlier... if you were a white, suburban kid walking through the projects and you see a big group of black people, would you talk about how disgusting weaves are? LOL. i don't think any of you would have enough courage to do that. talking about weaves shouldn't offend them in any way, right? it's not directing any violence towards black people, but i can tell you one thing, you'd get fucked up for saying it. therefore, you still have to be aware of the situation you're in and what you say. i bet none of you, in that situation, would preach on and on about "stand up for freedom of speech and racism"... you'd shit your pants.
  4. lmaooo@acting black. i've never acted "black" in my life, will NEVER marry a black guy, never gotten along with black girls, nor have i ever wanted to be black. i'm happy with what i am, kthnx. but that's not the topic here, now is it? i never said this muslim family was obligated to shut their mouth. all i said was... they open their mouths and they know what they're getting themselves into, so why do it? no, they don't have to be quiet. go ahead, talk about whatever you want. but don't complain when ignorant people take it the wrong way. and why the hell am i repeating the same thing over and over again? lol. i don't care if you don't agree with my opinion. it's just that... MY FUCKING OPINION.
  5. you talk about short-term and long-term effects of reacting to this situation. well, look at it. the family chose to practice their right to freedom of speech and they spoke up. where did that get them? racism still exists, they didn't do anything to change it. they will always be stereotyped when it comes to planes, bombs, etc. they were interrogated, kicked off the plane, AND were not allowed to book a next possible flight... it only caused them more problems. if they had been more aware of their words and the situation they were in and kept their mouths shut... racism, stereotypes, etc., would still exist. no one would take their words the wrong way and report them. they would still be on the plane. they would've arrived at their destination. i, personally, would rather avoid all that hassle caused by a simple discussion, and talk about it another time.
  6. thunderjam, thank you. at least SOMEONE understands what i'm saying.
  7. You must be happy to live this way based on your opinions about freedom of speech. We've come a long way in fifty years because we've been intolerant of prejudiced remarks. You seem happy to tolerate it, and with that attitude you'd be the one to suffer at the end of the day. i tolerate it especially if it doesn't involve me and if it could've been avoided. if, this family was talking about fruits or something and they were kicked off the plane, then i'd probably react differently, but i still wouldn't care too much about it. how do i suffer at the end of the day? lol. i'm fine at the end of the day. i know i have a right to freedom of speech and trust me, i say what i want when i want, but i also know when to shut my mouth. and you have not had the kind of experience i've had with authorities, which is why you're reacting differently to how this situation could've been avoided. i just drove from toronto to florida recently, and at the border, i was searched like crazy. they made a big deal about me bringing in PEARS from walmart, saying that pears from mexico could be carrying diseases. i'm not even mexican and the pears were from walmart, he only said that because i'm hispanic. you don't know how badly i wanted to snap, especially because our car wasn't even supposed to be checked, we were cleared to go. but i didn't say anything to him, i just let him take the pears and throw them in the garbage and i kept it moving. if i would've said more, i know they would've given me a harder time. that's where "shut your damn mouth" comes in lol.
  8. well you guys have your opinions and i have mine. i just think Muslims are aware of the increased racism against them and it's common sense... if you're gonna discuss something like that, you know that someone is bound to hear and knowing that it's America, you know they're gonna be racist. so, why give them a reason to form associations and cause problems? maybe it's the way we grow up. i grew up being taught to shut my damn mouth and never give anyone a reason to incriminate me or snitch on me to authorities. and other people grow up with the whole "freedom of speech" mentality. let's agree to disagree, because this isn't gonna go anywhere. you all know you won't change my mind or opinion so why bother. and i don't care about any racism, sexism going on because i really have better things to worry about. i laughed when i read this story. i don't have time to sit there, get mad, go picket outside of the airline or anything. i have a life to live, i have a son to take care of... i don't care about anything or anyone else. call me selfish
  9. you may feel that racism isn't as strong, but that's YOUR take. go and ask other racial groups and they'll tell you different. so... switch it up and let's say a friend and i were at the border with customs discussing which drug is the safest drug out of marijuana and crack. you seriously don't think they'd check us for it? especially if we're both hispanic? lol.
  10. you do realize that racism will always exist, along with discrimination and stereotypes, right? it's a part of life. i've accepted it. and it's just the way i was taught growing up... if you're on the plane, around the cops, or around anybody who could get you into trouble... just shut your mouth and keep it moving. i just know how to avoid putting myself in messy situations. lol... i used the hispanic + drug comparison because it's TRUE. if i go to the damn border, and i talk about drugs openly like it's nothing and say "freedom of speech", do you think they're gonna care? hell fucking no. they're gonna search me, my car and whoever else is with me. so why would i put myself in that situation to begin with? no, it's not right that they're stereotyping but that's just the way it is. and really, i don't care too much about racism that affects other ethnic groups because every group goes through the same thing. i put up with racism too, i don't expect anyone to care about it lol. i'm not gonna challenge anything, especially if it doesn't affect me and i have better things to worry about.
  11. "Black men should know better than to talk to white women - after all, some people might get the wrong idea." what kind of a stupid ass comparison is that? lol.. to be honest, i don't give two shits about this situation. it doesn't affect me in any way, i find it rather funny. because it's true... why the hell would you talk about THAT in a damn plane, KNOWING that people will take it seriously? where's the common sense? i don't care about this "freedom of speech" shit because it doesn't matter. yes, they have that right but if i was Muslim, i'd think before i speak, and i wouldn't mention that for other people to hear. that's just like walking into a plane with a turban on your head and saying "hehehehehe people are going to die today"... how the hell do you expect people to react? it's like me at customs, talking openly about cocaine or crack. they're gonna think... hmmm, hispanic and drugs. link? and they're gonna search me. see, i KNOW that, which is why i'd never say anything stupid like that.
  12. and that's the problem. people need to think before they talk. in reality, they should be allowed to have that discussion, but that's not how it works.
  13. i'm not trying to rationalize anything. i never said the airline was right. i'm just saying... Muslims are aware of the discrimination against them. so, why put yourself in a position like that by talking about an airplane and where the safest place to sit is. people are automatically gonna make associations with those kind of remarks, and you can't control how people think, so you might as well shut the hell up and save yourself the trouble.
  14. just a question... what do you expect if you're Muslim and talking about the SAFEST place to sit on a plane, knowing that discrimination and racism still exists, even more after 9/11? i think they were asking for it. i'm sure they got checked like crazy going through security. they shouldn't have been talking about things that could be used against them and just boarded the flight quietly.
  15. i'm never going on another cruise lmao. i got seasick midway through the trip. i rather fly somewhere and stay in a resort instead lol.
  16. well... to be honest, there wasn't much to do on the ship. annddddddd the weather was so bad that we only got off the ship to go to Nassau... they had to cancel one destination and stay an extra night in Nassau cus of bad weather. it sucked lol. and they lost one of our luggages. they had horrible service. never going on the Norwegian cruise line ever again lol.
