Hey. I've got windows 8 and this doesn't seem to be working for me. Continuum just seems to open as normal even though I'm loading it through the program. Any thoughts?

The standalone client doesn't seem to work for me either. It's giving me a timeout error. Strange, because I was able to use the web based one just fine.

I'll say the same thing I said to the rest of the council when this was brought up: Subspace couldn't survive commercially 10 years ago when it was fresh and the graphics weren't outdated. Cosmic Rift couldn't survive commercially despite upgraded graphics and game engine. Continuum will not survive commercially. What attracts people to this game is the community. The community is bolstered by having other players as staff instead of mindless customer service reps. Unfortunately for SS it's a lose-lose situation. Either we hand everything every zone owner has over to rapidshare and trust that a megacorporation has our community's best interests (it doesn't, corporations care only for making money. if they didn't think they could make a profit they would not be doing this) or say thanks but no thanks and hope they just lose interest. Because if their clone actually does get coded and they settle all legal issues, SS is done anyway. "Go along with them, what's the worst that could happen?" The worst that could happen is SS YET AGAIN does not function as a commercial game and it gets dropped by rapidshare. Say what you will about priitk but the guy is hosting 70% of the zones, 90% of the most played ones. He asks for nothing in return. If we all leave for this new subspace clone and it gets dropped, we won't have anywhere to come back to. You would be severing all ties with priit without having a backup, as even with priit's resources I'm sure he won't pay for servers if they aren't being used. Say it doesn't get dropped by rapidshare. Would you pay 5 bucks to play a nightwasp in chaos? Are you willing to put up with advertisements every time you enter a zone? There's only so many things rapidshare can do to make a profit off of SS, it's either gonna be a ton of advertisements, micro-transactions or a straight up monthly fee. Don't kid yourselves, this isn't the "answer" SS has been looking for, though it's pretty much bound to have the same effect. It's just that nobody's really put in much thought on what the consequences of abandoning priitk will be and how they weigh in with the many advantages he's offered.

Yeah, even EA got in on it and they've got their own e-store. Would be great to get Cont on there somehow, but we'd need some pretty big updates to the game engine and I doubt Priit is up to it.

The game would have died if priitk hadn't created Continuum from scratch. I don't particularly agree with his decision to hang on to the code (and have mentioned it multiple times) but he has reasoning behind it. If the code were to fall into the wrong hands we'd have another twister on our hands, and twister is what prompted Priitk to create Continuum in the first place. As far as I'm concerned, there are only 3 coders out there that I would trust with the continuum source: Dr. Brain, Arnk, and Grelminar. Either way, there's no doubt the game is in a period of stagnation right now but it's definitely not as bad a shape as some make it out to be. OP included.

I'm talking genuine friendship where you, you know, actually hang out with the other person often. I have tons of female acquaintances where there are no feelings from either party. If you hang out with a girl enough one of you will develop feelings for the other, if they weren't already there to begin with. So to reiterate, my definition of friends is someone you hang out with often.

I've always been of the opinion that it is impossible for a guy and a girl to be just friends and that one of them always has feelings for the other.

Hi. Your friend shouldn't have that name in the first place since it was reset for him under false pretenses. I would not be surprised if the name was reset for Enemy again, since he's actually the guy that created the name and has been using it for however many years. In fact, the original "Angel" name is still in the database, since it was actually just renamed in case the original owner asked for it back. Which is obviously what is happening now. However, since Ghost Ship was the one that handled this in the first place, if the name is going to get reset it's going to be Ghost Ship that will handle it, not me.

People have been saying that game will only be around for "a couple of years" for the past 10 years. This game as insane replay value and a great community, so unless something drastic happens I can see this game lasting at least another 10 years.

Remind me again why it is that SSC has such a bad rep when stuff like this seems to happen all the time on the non-SSC billers? This is what happens when instead of a council of mature individuals controlling a biller you have one or two guys who are obviously not mature enough. The last big thing that happened within the SSC was SVS flipping out a couple of years ago, but even then the situation was diffused before it even had a chance to escalate, with GS removing him entirely.

I was more or less looking for an opinion based on gaming and stuff. Like, "I can run Crysis with everything turned up on very high at 1920x1200 resolution with 50 FPS!!" I don't think that's actually possible, but you get my point =p.

It seems to me you're most likely NOT going to get unbanned. My suggestion would be to find another game, possibly a single player one where hacking won't affect anyone other than yourself.

Two things: from re-reading his original post, Ace already patted Riistar on the back for doing most of the work. And I completely disagree with you about the SSC forum. We've got something like 99% of the zone sysops signed up on it now. It's -already- served the purpose it was created for, a place where the SSC can easily communicate with zone sysops and where they can easily and safely communicate with eachother. But ya, I'm not gonna get into this whole thing again, as far as the SSC is concerned, though, the forum is serving its purpose.

Hey folks. I need a web developer for HZ's site, www.rshl.org. Said person needs to know PHP well enough to be able to read our scripts and be able to start helping out with minor pointers. If needed, the person that wrote most scripts is still around to answer questions though. Ideally this person would just be tasked with coding some new features we've been aching for, but the position can lead to a webmaster position (which is currently unfilled) from which you'd have access to all of our web designers and artists. I've only browsed the old site twice, I mean, we haven't used bots in HZ since 2005 =P. From what I remember though, it wasn't very user-friendly at all nor was it organized well. Overall it looked like a pile of crap. Which is fine, because obviously Catid wasn't going for a website award, it was just a storage space for subspace robots. Was the make-over absolutely required? No. Was it needed? Yes. If Ace didn't make this post or was part of this project people would be saying the new site looks much better. Cut the guy some slack, it's not like YOU are the ones spending time working on the site. Jesus.
