A small idea that may or may not already exist.

Subject: Linux on a CF card configured as a "Live CD" to minimize/eliminate writes? Greetings, I found a SATA to CF adapter http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41jHNvv08qL.jpg http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/410CianSg0L.jpg I know that CFs wear out more quickly, so this brings me to my question. How would it be possible to setup Linux (like Mint) properly on a CF card for minimal wear and tear? In my mind, I'm kind of thinking of it like a Live CD on the CF card -- but configured with programs I want and particular system settings of my preferences -- how do I do that?

Networking got sorted out. We played together with around 16-20 players and it worked fantastically. Of course, this was like last year. =P Yea I have played it with networking too. But weren't you talking about lag issues? And how does it stand against cheats? "Networking got sorted out. We played together ... and it worked fantastically." I'm just a player, not a developer.

Google isn't being very helpful for this, as it always returns results regarding avoiding gas. Do different kind of beans cause more or less worse gas than other kinds? (I think the answer to this is in the affirmative.) So in that case, what IS the best KIND of beans to eat for maximum Armageddon and office carnage?

Very sad and emotional atmosphere. Make more!

Hah, well then Infantry wins the per arena max! =P Unfortunately I cannot remember what ASSS could do as far as total zone population the last time I was on it. I remember spending some time with someone (CRe?) trying to beat ASSS' to the max (pun intended) and we got somewhere ... just can't remember the results now or if we got somewhere actually (I do recall it might have been put on hold for some internal research or other) Subgame2 is capped to 1024. Sharvil says that from his findings and tinkering the actual limit in Subgame2 is supposed to be that 65k number, but finds it interesting when I pointed out to him that it stops accepting players at 1024-hard.

I didn't actually have much to write then. Was hoping I could do more red comments. Has Infantry server's been hostable by anyone, or is this a new thing?

The population of other zones do not matter when considering opening a zone. If it does, you've already lost.

That thread was for shits and giggles. Apparently you haven't considered that option yet.

I feel a calling towards something in real life. I am very confident that I am and have made the right decisions to the direction I am going and have no regrets in doing this. Many times in the past I have thought about stopping the webhosting services at BlueToast, but I have never been fully rational and prepared to do so. The reason BlueT and SSCV have to go is because my webhost -- business partner in webhosting -- gave me partial administrative access to his Windows gameserver to help him take care of it and to make better use of the server (at the time the server was very much under-utilized). Since I am halting webhosting services as a business and leaving my business partner to move on with my life and pursue my calling, inherently this means that BlueT/SSCV in SubSpace must go as well. Initially BlueT was more so just an experiment without having in mind of being around for very long, but it made it this far in time so that is pretty good for the average experience that I have. If I had the resources, I would have continued hosting (preferably on my own server with TCAdmin). Unfortunately, this is not the way things are right now so the services have to go. As said I am very satisfied, confident, and happy with the decisions I have made and the direction I am going. =) I would have loved to keep BlueT and SSCV around longer, but everything has its end.

Greetings, As of this morning we now have zero customers; everyone has moved and found another service provider and webhost and migrated their websites. On June 30th (this coming Thursday at the time of posting) I will be shutting off BlueT and SSCV indefinitely and erasing related files from the server. I appreciate the opportunity MikeTheNose and PoLiX have given me with SSCV and truly wish I could have continued zone hosting (but due to inherent circumstances of my particular situation I cannot); thank you guys! SSF is still in my daily routine of checking forums and websites, but I haven't really touched Continuum in many months. Wish I could have had this opportunity back when I was younger, but at least I did have the opportunity. Sincerely, JS

So basically this is what you are suggesting: Invest into something, such as a business. Once business is popular, advertise SubSpace via that.

When do people learn? Life is not fair. /thread (And don't ban Avast.)

So basically you minus the "community run zones" and plus "additional game modes, which the community wants"?

Use a slope formula. a^2 + b^2 = c^2 If the distance between A<->player and player<->C is 64 pixels on a horizontal axis, a=0 b=64 and thus c must equal 64. However, I am sure there are other and better ways of doing this.

I guess that includes my zone too, oh well. Didn't really actively play in it for a while anyway. So a few weeks to 3 months eh, that at least gives me a while to back everything up. Good luck finding a host T3G. All registrars have been notified via e-mail based on their TCAdmin contact details. Please send me an e-mail at admin@hlrse.net and I will send you a copy of the letter everyone received.

I wasn't crying about any zone or game dying. I was only stating the reality.

good point, but this is a community run by volunteers. Time for people to step up. Take what was great and make it greater. Dream and dream, but I would like to know where you intend to get players out of thin air. If your dramatizing of ego-pumping eye of the tiger rallying is to introduce such revolutionary changes to bring about results as you dream, as countless people in the past (myself included) have already done not just with this game but even zones, why is the concurrent daily population dwindling steadily without a care to the rallies of the past and now? Summary: no matter how pumped and dreamy you are, the concurrent population of this game has been gradually declining regardless of the rallies of you, myself, and countless others. Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.

It's a game. Every good [and bad] game has its end. There are always new good [and bad] games that sprout. How can you possibly, realistically, and logically think for a second that a zone, a server, or even a game that you think is great would forever sustain constant population at levels you consider satisfying and acceptable?
