i do have an external cd burner, but ever trying to boot from usb, it doesnt seem to detect the cd inside

read closer, i havent been able to get any cd's to run. ive tired various boot disks.. darik's boot and nuke, memtest86, active@ kill disk, master bootable, ultimate boot cd, cd-rom version of 98 boot disk, no cds will work. they begin, but eventually error out and just say 'there was an error, system halted' and junk like that

i can try that if you can explain how to. im not much of a linux guy really.

I have ordered a new ram stick, but it did not resolve the issue. Next plan is to take it to a repair guy maybe.. or I'll just make my brother wait til he buys a new computer, until then he can just use my old laptop. But surely there is a solution to this.

I'll be gone all weekend, but I'm going to make a windows 98 boot disk cd-rom (since the problem laptop doesnt have a floppy drive but my pc does) and try that next week. Read the post again, I've already done that. It starts the setup, but eventually errors out with vague error code message stating that ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded. I know how to boot from a CD, so something else is wrong.

You can't remove 'all' of them... the 1pixel white and grey stars can't be removed that way... unless you lay huge almost-black images everywhere... but that'd be crazy hurray for a late response.. but since nobody else said it, i will. the emphasis is on 'almost' in the almost-black statement. true black will become transparent as that is how the game is coded to treat true black. this black also doe not take fps, so you are correct on that part. however, if you use true black, stars will still show. so to get a color close to black that the game wont recognize as true black even in 8-bit mode will in fact take fps, just like any other background you may have seen in another zone. background images tend to severely affect those with inferior computers, thus cutting off part of your potential population. in other words, you are cursed with stars, because this game is a spaceship game. oh well.

Even at this point 7 hours later I still cannot send any message.

I need to know what happens if you max out your ?messages limit (I believe it is 17). You get a message "You have sent too many messages" beyond that. Is there a time limit when you can send more? Or is it bugged and the person receiving the message has to ?messages before you can send again? If that is the case, what about if you ?message accounts that are no longer in use? You can never message again? I'm sure this is not the case, but I don't know for sure. Any information on this topic would be appreciated.
