  1. I don't need a semantic argument here because it's all interpretation. A logical one will suffice: The Christian God is defined by the Church. The Bible is interpreted as God's word by the Church. Thus the Church has used God's word to hinder science. Another interpretation might have yielded results more favourable to science, but that wasn't the case. Thus, for not using an interpretation that could be properly understood by the Church, the Christian God has hindered science. If his greatest followers cannot interpret his words correctly then this is God's fault, it's especially God's fault when you realise that an omnipotent being would know the future (which he is by the Christian definition of God being infinitely powerful, and so my argument is irrefutable given your criteria and the Christian definition for an infinite God). On the infinity argument you were so vague that i decided to just go on what i thought you were saying. Please tell us what you meant when you said: "And if you want me to prove to you the existence of such a being, then I ask you to first prove infinity." Existence isn't finite?? Be less vague and explain what you mean. An understanding of the truth is not knowledge, but like you say (and i would agree), it is wisdom to possess a great number of logical deductions from your seeking of the truth. Knowledge really is defined as justified true belief, which is why i can't claim to have any knowledge. Perhaps what i said in the last post was slightly wrong. Let me rephrase what you quoted me as saying to: I seek knowledge and the closest I've come to knowing something, from the total regression of all the unproven justifications for the beliefs i hold, is that it is impossible to know anything. So this isn't something i hold to be true. Its just the closest i can get to truth in my opinion. To believe that possessing knowledge is impossible is therefore the closest thing to knowledge i possess because it relies on the most observations. So i am not all-knowing. I guess you could say that i have a logical outlook on most things as a result though.
  2. Why good riddance? Why not feel bad? Yes, he should leave because he can't find work, and this is unfortunate with the economic downturn. I certainly won't lose sleep over it because immigrant workers are supposed to fill the extra jobs during boom periods. It's still unfortunate. I just don't understand why you're saying good riddance.
  3. This is ridiculous. With NBV on this one. Isn't he within his rights to shoot them on his land? That would have been an over-reaction, but what he did do was sensible and should be protected in law. I think Tigron is right to say it's a case to set an example for others.
  4. Well i don't really think it's worded correctly. To deny truth would be to see a truth and then reject it. I seek knowledge but the only knowledge i claim to possess is that gaining any more knowledge is impossible. Knowledge is defined as justified true belief' date=' but you can't justify anything as true. You have an almost infinite regression of justification for beliefs until you hit upon an assumption that isn't completely justified. But to get back on point, if you or I were to never seek knowledge then we still wouldn't be denying truth by your definition as by my understanding truth is unattainable. Logical deduction is the best process we believe for seeking truth, but it won't give us knowledge.
  5. A God is nearly always described as a being with great power and knowledge, and is usually attributed with creating the universe. A religion is something that attaches things to this idea of God. So it depends on what your idea of God is before you can claim to separate it from religion. If you are a Christian then your God is defined almost completely by what the Bible says, and by that definition they are interchangeable. So to put things into perspective, if the Christian God exists in all the ways defined by Christianity, then he has definitely set back science by centuries. Infinity is a mathematical concept but also a metaphysical one (if that's the right word). Many people believe that space and time are infinite, and that infinite power was required to produce the Big Bang. I for one don't think that the Big Bang required infinite energy, and therefore if there was a creator then he didn't need to be infinitely powerful. Thus infinity and God are not interchangeable. Seek it yes. Deny it... how? I put it to you, how can someone ever know what the truth is? There is a great quote by a man named Xenophanes. He lived in Ancient Greece two and a half millenia ago, he said: "No human being will ever know the truth, for even if they happen to say it by chance, they would not even know they had done so." It's worth thinking about that one for a while.
  6. Good, no problems today so it looks like the problem is solved. Thanks.
  7. It had cloak and stealth too. If you didn't have X-radar then people could just pop up in the weasel and kill you randomly. When i started playing there was this guy called "Big Dave" who would use it, and i honestly thought he was cheating. It was the biggest source of complaint in the zone and the main reason why settings were changed in the first place.
  8. Wow I can actually make a post again. I use AVG Free edition Have basic Windows Firewall. Connecting through a university network (i don't know any more than that so don't ask, but i don't get problems with any other site) Firefox browser (good point though, next time I'll try IE and see what happens) My Dad has had some problems in Firefox with running websites that require Flash products, although he has Windows Vista (i have XP) and i think this is Microsoft's way of sabotaging Firefox because its becoming more popular than IE (Microsoft will just claim ignorance and say they will make a patch but the damage will be done by then anyway).
  9. To be honest with you, i haven't been posting on this forum because the forum hasn't been working for me. I keep getting "can't find server" messages... i have a help topic about it in the feedback and support. Right now is one of only two times in the last week that i've been able to make a post here.
  10. I haven't been able to access the forum for days until just now. You were right that all i need to do is remove the "www.", which allows me to read the pages (slowly) but i cannot make any posts through this method because removing the www doesn't help with loading the page in that instance.
  11. We can make a comparison based on what we do know. If there are double standards which can be correlated with a specific political disliking, then we can be fairly sure that there is an injustice. It's quite clear that in Iran, America is applying double standards in the case of the Mujahedeen because America and this "terrorist group" both dislike Iran. Considering that America are friends of Israel and therefore doesn't like Hamas and Hezbollah, this double standard has far reaching consequences. The entire definition of terrorist is pretty much determined by what America says because the EU will always follow suit. If America is fooling intelligent people into thinking their enemies are evil (terrorists) and their friends are good (freedom fighters or whatever) then I can't begin to rant on how dangerous that is because i would be going on for a long time.
  12. This brings a memory to mind. In relation to Astro's post, Iran made an offer of reconciliation to the US in 2003. They offered to be completely open about their nuclear program, give up their support for Hezbollah and Hamas and would offer to help stabilise Iraq. In return they simply wanted the U.S. to disband the Mujahedeen-e-Khalq (The People's Mujahedeen) and to remove Iran from the "axis of evil". http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/5377914.stm It was a fair offer. It was refused. According to Colin Powell the hardliners in Washington responded with "We don't talk to evil". America decides who is a terrorist and who isn't. They decide who is good and who is evil. Those they don't agree with they brand with the evil tag. There is no definition for "terrorist" that involves crimes against humanity anymore, it is defined quite clearly now as "people America doesn't like".
  13. There have been a lot of complaints to travel companies from people who ended up in a hotel with a bunch of 18-30 loud mouths who shout, scream and play music all night. You could find these people on almost any package-holiday, so it would be good to know at least a little about who's going to be in the "same boat" as you (oh the pun!). I never go through travel companies to book anything, they always rip you off somehow. [my previous post: yea i read about the names thing afterward, but the forum was down for me so I couldn't edit.]
  14. A good idea in my opinion. I'm a young man and can't stand chavs. I imagine it's even less tolerable for older people. The only problem would be identifying who is a chav and who isn't. They probably just do an age cut, like you must be over 40 or something, which would discriminate against non-chav young people. It would be interesting to see how they make the separation.
  15. lol at the last one. Delic kamikaziing and Maynard missing Vorp. I wish i could play
  16. Today at 13:24 GMT, ADDRESS NOT FOUND, can't find server.
  17. I don't get this problem with any other sites. Although I can't connect to the 17th Parallel zone for some reason, but i think that is unrelated. I am on a university network, but i wouldn't have thought that would be the issue. I am on a wired connection. I had a feeling other people would be getting the same problem because the same issue occurs on my work laptop too. That is a linux machine, and my home one is windows. The times when it doesn't work also appears to be random, making be fairly sure that its not a problem at my end.
  18. I didn't see a thread for it, so i'll make a post. The ssforum.net site only seems to load about half of the time. Are other people getting the same problem? Is this to be expected? Is there a solution?
  19. I don't know why, but when i read the word "Gitmo" it pisses me off.
  20. Yea, what's done is done. I just want to forget about Bush and let Obama get on with important issues. Lets use this thread to list things he's done already that we approve of. 1. Closing Guantanemo in less than one year. 2. Set up a website to get input from the public about what issues are important to them. 3. Pledges to be completely open about government spending.
  21. Moderates are like people with hybrid cars, everyone else is beneath them. Anyway, a moderate is just an unrepresented member of a non-existent party.
  22. you mean you voted for Bush? Was it the first or second term? I was hoping you'd vote Obama NBV. I was thinking that if i called you out on all your right-wing views enough, you'd vote for Obama just to say "I voted for Obama, how do you explain that, being according to you, I'm a right-wing nut?". But i'm sure that's not the reason. Anyhow, the thought had crossed my mind long ago.
  23. They aren't attacking America again for one very big reason: Post-9/11 anger is over, and the people of America are beginning to despise the war on terror. To attack again would be to beat themselves. Currently all the terrorist groups are using this ridiculous war in Iraq to get thousands of new recruits, thus perpetuating the cycle. They'll attack America again eventually, but this isn't the time.
  24. Well that keeps up the Israeli policy of 100 dead animals (arabs) in exchange for every dead one of God's chosen people.
  25. We know that the invasion of Iraq was unnecessary, therefore Bush is responsible for all the hundreds of thousands of dead. I personally believe that he used 9/11, the subsequent approval ratings, and the public acceptance of war in Afghanistan, to get us involved in Iraq. He used the deaths of 3000 people and the misplaced hatred America felt for all Muslims to bring about the deaths of a hundred thousand more. For this he has no equal. People say Bush is the devil. Well, when you're talking about someone who taps into your feelings of vengeance for a horrific horror attack to initiate misery and destruction a hundred times worse... you kind of see where the analogy is coming from.
