  1. Did I ban you for thinking that you weren't intelligent? No. Thank you. I think that discredits that insult to my writing. -agreement, +points. Make sense now? I flame people who make ridiculous statements claiming truth or justice by illogical means. I also flame those who try to refute statements w/o providing evidence.
  2. I insult those who don't know how to read. Plain & Simple. If you can't effectively discuss a situation without reading someone's posts, then you deserve no respect. Plain & Simple. I hope you can understand that. If you don't want to be insulted, then try posting some logic. No one discredited my agreement which were pretty much agreement with Bak's statements. All I got was "You don't know what you're talking about", which I do, and that proves that you're a newb. Yes, there's something called proof. Otherwise your insults are just nameless trash. Funny thing that. That's what has always separated the trash talkers. Those that can trash others & take names during SubSpace, and those that just trash. Similar difference here. There was a practical basis for the insult, and thus you got flamed.
  3. "unimportant !@#$%^&*" indeed. So that makes figuring out the correct way of finding why he should be banned incorrect? Oh please. weak. I'm glad though that after a page of rehashing years of discussion Kolar actually read what I was writing. Raises my opinion of him a bit. Hey Kiddies, lesson time. When you want to participate in a discussion you need something worthwhile to discuss instead of rehashing what's been said a page before. Otherwise you just look dumb. Oh and one more thing, don't label something as "nonsense" when you repeat the jist of it 2 paragraphs below. It also doesn't look very good. See Ya Next Time For More Action & Adventure!
  4. **Okay, it's time to get warmed up.** Firstly, freedom of speech has often been denied in Online Gaming. Secondly, people seem to confuse the difference between a server operator's rights & the opinion of actions taken by those rights. It is my understanding that several posters in this thread misunderstand the very concepts that we have been discussing. What happens when we run a zone? Players will join. How do they join? The zone is advertised on a directory server. If this is a public zone server listed on the SSC* billing system, then it most likely shows up when they extract Continuum & run it. The principle of a server is akin to an open door. There was only a few instances where large zones were permission-only, and that era has long since past. As I have stated in the past, it is important to establish ourselves as an open community rather than a closed one. Infantry comes to mind when I think of closed. I was happy when it was decided that no one can netban someone based on a name, nor on the contents of their discussion provided that they do not bridge the line to har!@#$%^&*ment. Most sysops make decisions as objectively as they can with the realization that their objectivity is limited by their environment (Priitk comes to mind). It is important to distinguish our personal beliefs from our actions so that we do not deny the personal beliefs of others. Otherwise we start leading down a path towards prejudice & bigotry. Many players think it's harmless. A ban? So what? But why stop there? What's next? When we stop walking in each other's shoes we lose sight of the whole picture. The subjectivity in the best of sysops fades to a bitter at!@#$%^&*ude. e.g. Player 1: I hate jews. They are filthy moneylenders. [ed. obvious drivel intended to annoy] Player 2: Oh yeah? ?ignored, Next time you spawn in I'm going to own your !@#$%^&*ing !@#$%^&*. Such an extreme example as above rarely merits a response, but even the extreme can be brought in line by players. If the example were spammed, then it's considered hate. When a player speaks in language without basis or fact, then it becomes hate or nonsensical spam. At this point, their behavior can be held libel to the zone owner, and thus they may be banned for illegal behavior. We cannot argue against why a zone owner took an action, but we can argue that acted inappropriately and unsuitable in role as a human being & sysop. Put another way, I cannot deny local policy, but I can deny respect for that local policy. Metal Gear CTF has a policy restricting speech. This goes against unalienable rights that people have decided that they have (or granted to them by God). If Metal Gear CTF does not support such, then I have every right to flame the !@#$%^&* out of anyone stupid enough to argue against it. It puts them in line with such people as Josef Stalin, Adolf Hitler, Joe McCarthy, etc ... So I will state it here: As defined in this thread, Metal Gear CTF is a discriminatory zone, much like T3 the Gauntlet. If all the rest of the zones are like this now, then I will take up my cause once again. If SubSpace has really denegrated to this kind of bull!@#$%^&* behavior, then I'll speak even LOUDER. As stated, sysops have every right to ban who they want, but without responsibilty they are no different from those people that would deny freedom such as Al Qaida. There is no denying this. If you don't want to be called this, then change your policy. Remember, all that I have written does not go against sysop rights, local zone policy, netban policy, and player rights. ------- As a side note, from what I have read here I am severely disappointed to hear that Kolar holds power in a SubSpace zone. It amuses me that he argues in the veiled ignorance of his newbness. I'm happy now. Except for my utter !@#$%^&*ing hate for SSFN for not enabling HTML on these forums. It's so utterly silent & non-motivational on these forums.
  5. Okay then, I'll add you to the list of people who didn't read my post clearly. But let's start over.. (editting) 1. Someone comes on the forum complaining about being banned. Normally we don't give a flying !@#$%^&*. However this time it is about free speech. The debate starts with whether or not it is correct to restrict the type of speech in a zone, but quickly turns into a "server rights" defense. 2. Server rights is valid, but then they complained that they shouldn't be yelled at for using, which is obviously stupid as proven by several individuals. 3. Spamming & Har!@#$%^&*ment. As noted by myself & verified in the SSC netban policy, is in fact against the rules. Somehow some morons decided to call us morons for agreeing with this & stating that we don't know what we're talking about. As I stated before, if Testtube feels har!@#$%^&*ed or feels that Spin. is spamming, then by all means netban/ban away. So folks, in future, it's best to actually read the conversation in full before thinking people aren't on the right track or are "morons". Because that makes you a newb. GG.
  6. No, the reason why nobody gives a network ban is that it doesn't fit the sentence. Get it correct please. After a couple of years of !@#$%^&*ing we finally did get a sort of guideline for ssc netbans. If TestTube would like to file a Har!@#$%^&*ment claim with the rest of the SSC, then I'm sure they'd netban Spin in 10 seconds. Also, if he evaded ?ignore by changing nicks. But it doesn't seem like har!@#$%^&*ment if he's a bit justified in making these claims. However, one conclusion I can come up with is that the players from Metal Gear CTF (including banned players) are fairly incompetent at reading comprehension.
  7. Read to the last post, it's a bit historical & may give you better context. The point is that this was handled poorly. There are other methods w/o having to ban someone from a zone.
  8. My opinion of Metal Gear CTF has decreased for not encouraging the use of the ?ignore feature. Or whatever the restricted word file is called nowadays. That being said, they have every right to ban whoever from their private property, but they should have no complaints about being labeled "censors" & grouped with a large group of people among whom are terrorists, totalitarian dictators, and those who disagree with the Declaration of Independence. I wrote sometime ago the following:
  9. software emulation?
  10. It would be best to attempt complete SubSpace wine implementation as it's very buggy. I know that sknox was working on this on and off for the past year or so.
  11. turret support can be done in ASSS.
  12. As someone who has studied Japan for quite sometime I'll make a few comments on this situation to clear things up. Heck, I even translated a newspaper article on this from Yomiuri when I was applying for the CIA media analyst position (didn't get it). This has been going on for years. It isn't recent news. I'll try to draw out a picture on both sides for Japan and China (and other Asian nations). Basically, there is no correct answer as to what should happen. First a little background. Japan is a major contributor to the United Nations. If you were not aware of it the UN bases its contributions off of the % of a nation's GDP. The United States pays the most, followed by Japan, and then Germany. However, unlike the G8(9), the UN is not governed by the nations that pay admittance, but by those selectively chosen for the World situation in the 1950s. In that situation the US, UK, Soviet Union, and France as winners of World War 2 were granted permanent seats on the council. China, or Cheng Kai Shek's [sp] Nationalist China, was also granted a permanent seat for representation in Asia. Of course, the PROC took over this spot decades later. Japan and Germany, as "aggressors" in World War 2, were not allowed permanent seats. Nowadays, Japan, a country cons!@#$%^&*utionally against War, participates financially in the UN. However, as of 1996 (or so), Japan passed controversial law to allow its Self Defense forces (SDF) to participate in UN Peacekeeping Operations (PKO). At first, they were just backup and supply units. Now they participate fully in PKOs. Additionally, China questions Japan's "peace" role because of its military spending. Japan spends the second largest amount on its "military" behind the US. Of course this is still only 2% of GDP. You also must think about what they pay for: American Aegis Cruisers, fighter jets, etc ... State-of-the-art equipment. On the other hand, Japan has recently backed Taiwan in any military conquest of the island. This is due to piss of mainland Chinese who think of Taiwan as part of China. Now we'll throw into the mix the Japanese Empire and the textbook controversy. Although the textbooks use the same kanji for the Nanking massacre and other events, they don't attribute the same meaning. The International community has always stated that Japan needs to correct these issues in their educational programs. What was the "Rape of Nanking" you say? Japanese troops slaughtering the Chinese people in that city for about a week leaving hundreds of thousands of woman and children dead. Japan has indicated that since they normalized relations with China and South Korea that they did not need to apologize. Obviously there is something wrong with that. I'm glad that Prime Minister Koizumi took the first step. However, let's throw in something else. Due to the Liberal Democratic Party's nature, much like the Republican party in the US, Koizumi has to gather support from the far Right and moderates in Japan. Apologizing is fine, but will he stop visiting the Japanese war shrine that honors Generals that have committed atrocities? Probably not. And I agree that further visits are fine. Why you ask? Japan is roughly animistic in religion. Praying to the gods and your ancestors is not just a tradition, but a way of life. Almost beyond a Cultural Norm. Telling Japan not to honor everybody is like telling people in the US that they cannot go to Churches because of that particular Church's Religious Beliefs (with the exception of Rastafarianism). Also, why we never took out the Emperor after World War 2. Finally, Japan and China are not just linked politically and culturally, but economically as well. Most scholars will say that while the Chinese and Japanese are shaking fists and waving guns at each other that under the table they are shaking hands. What would happen to China's economy if Japanese businesses pulled out? It would wreak havoc for both Japan and China. Unlike radical changes, Japan moves slow. In the 20th century, due to the intricate logistics of the Japanese bureaucracy, business, and legislature, Japan has moved like mol!@#$%^&*es through Reform. However, it is my understanding that Japan has slowly improved, and that the Chinese protestors have overreacted. Remember, to discuss this issue you have to know all the pieces to the puzzle. Here are some questions to think about: + Should Japan (and Germany) get a seat on the security council because their money is really helping to fund the U.N.? Remember, the American Revolution was fought over taxation. + Should Japan pay reparations to China, or has, like the Japanese courts decided years ago, the normalization of relations prevented reparations? + Should China expose its own human rights violations (none by them), or continue to hide over Turk suppression? Are the Chinese being a little bit hypocritical? ---- btw, about that comment about Korea invading Japan. Japan has tried to do the opposite several times as well. History is your friend. N.B.: Meh, too rantish... I wrote this fairly quickly, but it works. Style--.
  13. Instead of trying to stop him completely from what he enjoys why not go for compromise and discussion with the whole family instead of alienating one member?
  14. Like lag stuff. I seem to remember one zone, SSA Gundam Wing?
  15. Continuum does not run under wine. SubSpace is very buggy under wine.
  16. I think that the thrusters technique is a well done and easy option for this. Why? Because SVS is all about a spaceship that conforms to some standards. If you want to make something non-standard, then you'll have to mess with the settings. It is the SubSpace way afterall...
  17. I believe there is a trick to doing this.
  18. I was talking with sknox about this a few days ago (and The Ghost Ship a few days before that). All that needs to be worked on is a new protocol. Ekted and Priitk do not have the time, or in their words it is impratical. However, anyone with the time should be able to create a new protocol for a client and ASSS in about 6 months. That's not too impractical is it? Physics and such are being worked on. A new protocol is not. My suggestion: work out how to prevent cheating in an open source model of SubSpace. Do not limit yourself in thinking about the protocol, but limit yourself to SubSpace gameplay. Then go ahead and code an ASSS connection module & simple open source chat client for that protocol. Or better yet, make it a shared library. Do not expect any support from any SSC* people as they're pretty stuck up about open source.
  19. I think in ASSS you probably can. I remember freaking out when Smong put shipreset before race start, and I had to comment it out. At a quick glance at flags.c, I only see the S2C_FLAGRESET packet being sent . That doesn't look too good for trying to get rid of it easily.
  20. That's a good trick, but sometimes it's not for everyone. I usually come into my map design with an idea, but I don't have to draw it on paper first (I may just be a lazy -*BAD WORD*- though).
  21. i88gerbils

    spyware

If he stops using Windows he can no longer play SubSpace >.<
  22. I hope you improve upon "their" zooming as discussed in the thread over on MGB.com
  23. That would hold true if I were a bot programmer...
  24. lagger ;-)
  25. -*BAD WORD*- server works for all the pre-made zones out there... Got a map, some settings. Put it up. Add a ball. People will have fun. -*BAD WORD*- Server works.
