exactly my idea SOS smile.gif

Im still wondering, if the server program will be as easy to set up as the continuum server (but better offcoarse). And how much bandwidth it will take to host a server... Because, im always interrested in hosting random servers smile.gif

Well, of course I'll try to make it as easy as possible to use. User-friendliness is the number one area I'll be concentrating on during later stages of development.

Bandwidth requirements... hmm... more or less the same, I would guess. It depends. We shall see.

Ok, drop the MS is good/bad discussion. I totally think MS's software quality generally owns everything else. But who cares, off-topic.

The game will be MS-based for now. If, at a later stage, I see considerable support for a cross-playform version, it should not be too hard to change over since I'm already wrapping all the engines.

C# is a garbage collection language. Won't this produce absurd levels of client lag?

.Net is probably the smartest program there is. GC is totally unnoticable and .Net can easily outperform native apps. As I said, I think MS's quality is very impressive.

I'm willing to accept the notion that the performance hit is acceptable given that we're talking about a very old game here. But your statement that .NET outperforms native apps is way off. No wonder you're such a fan of Microsoft. You buy into propaganda. :(

I am disappointed that you're so unfriendly to real operating systems and that you'd prefer to censor the inevitable discussion that will pop up again, and again, and again, but as long as you pledge to open the code, I'll be happy in the knowledge that it may some day be ported.

Again, good luck to you and your project. It may yet save Subspace.

Ok, good luck accepted. I'll try my best smile.gif

PS. In case some readers missed it, I am evilly censoring this topic. Nobody talk about the merits of different OSs or MS stuff here :sos:

I know i really have no say in anything cause i dont know any code or anything. And not like my word really matters, but i think you guys have a great idea. And im sure it would become successful

Please consider the possibilities of having this game on a *nix environment. There is a large audience of people waiting for a game like SS. I have dual OS's at the moment, and I'd rather just run SuSE =)

I got some development time in, so I'll give a small progress report.

The core of the server is pretty much done. Not much of a client yet. Server is bare of features, but logging in and arenas should in theory work blum.gif

I'll probably get a bit more done later on tonight or tomorrow...
