»SOS Posted April 25, 2005 Report Posted April 25, 2005 Since everybody (well, almost nobody really ) knows that I really love this game and hate it's state of near-death, I am constantly thinking about doing a new and good version of the game. The next version. Version 2. The perfect one. However, I am only a single lazy man, so that is difficult at best... So I am quizzinating you here to see whether anyone would be interested in co-developing it with me... yell if you might be interested, aight?
protoman.exe Posted April 25, 2005 Report Posted April 25, 2005 Well , I'd work my !@#$%^&* off for you If I learned the skills needed to help to develop it.
»SOS Posted April 26, 2005 Author Report Posted April 26, 2005 So, there's Mav (who can code) and protoman (who can't code ).Ok, that's a start. Let's hope more drop in here
Trained Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 I cant Code, but im willing to help. I can do some GFX and some organization? I dunno, i'll fit in somehwere
»nintendo64 Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 It'll be interesting if this project gets off, may i remind the coders of the past failures?. Well, i'm not trying to be a bad sport, so Good luck on it.
Dav Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 i cant code but ill be willing to put some time in if there is anything i can do.
»SOS Posted April 26, 2005 Author Report Posted April 26, 2005 Ok, one coder and three non-coders willing so far I know there are many coders who don't visit ssforum. Since coders are the most needed folk, could everybody give a link here to any coder that you see in the game?
»Maverick Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 maybe you should try asking at forums.minegoboom.com. Although I can imagine some people would laught at you. What do you mean by Version 2? I hope you don't mean more then Continuum currently already is because we would have to rebuild Continuum from scratch anyway before making extras to it.
»SOS Posted April 26, 2005 Author Report Posted April 26, 2005 To be honest I find the atmosphere at MGB's forums ghastly and alienating, so I never visit there. Psychology is evil like that... Maybe someone other than me could ask there? By version 2 I mean basically a new game based on C/SS. Everything new. Everything. And of course I mean more than Continuum already is. What point would be there in making something new that has nothing new in it?
EdTheInvincible Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 maybe I could help with the testing.I can code some stuff, too.
»SOS Posted April 26, 2005 Author Report Posted April 26, 2005 Funky collection of people Although you 5 could go and learn to be excellent programmers real fast ^_^ Ater all, it is in the name of the game we all love
Raem Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 I can code Java, but I doubt that would be of any use in the real world =PShould be learning some variant of C over summer, if I'm not too busy, in which case I'd help
Trained Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 I done said I was gonna get some C# books and start learning, im just gonna need some help, cause I only know Basic HTML right now lol.
»D1st0rt Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 I think a C# client would be neat because then it could be coded easily and run on multiple platforms. I'd sign up, but I have no time.
»D1st0rt Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 Nah, not really. Any spare time goes into sleeping so that I can get a good solid 5 hours before I have to wake up again.
50% Packetloss Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 I would help but I don't know any directX/openGL/windows API/winsock/encryption/anything that is useful that you need. Plus school is busting my balls, I bairly have enough time to wipe my !@#$%^&*.
Paine Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 Sleep is for the weak. [slams head on keyboard, snores]
budger2 Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 just a question. how will this version be different than the version we have? what is the new feature?
»SOS Posted April 27, 2005 Author Report Posted April 27, 2005 I could probably find use for Java coders as well, at least in some parts of the project I understand that most people do not have time right now. I am also quite busy for the moment. If this gets going, this would be the timeline: 0-2 months planning. Just planning, not a single line of code. Non-coders can help out here too easily. Even busy people would be able to contribute here 2-4 months coding. So it would be ready by the end of summer. As for what will be new... the definitive plan is still to be made in the first 0-2 months but all ideas would be welcome One major change I can note is that it would be server-authoritative, so the possibility of cheating would be even smaller than with Continuum. This will also enable us to remove some of the bad effects of lag. Also, depending on the graphics engine we use, it might work on Linux too (both server and client).
